Couple questions:

1. Can I stake Shadows?
2. Can I track Shadow count on the block explorer or can I only use Chain Data tab in the wallet?
3. Why are the Shadows in the Chain Data only using 1, 3, 4 & 5 (ie: 100, 300, 400, 500, .01, .03, .04, .05, etc)?

Hi Litebit,

1a. No, you can't stake Shadows.
2a. Dasource is working on integrating it into the blockexplorer.
3a.

Thanks!
I thought that was the answer for #1, it'll be great to see them on the explorer & I guess I need to read more  Wink

I wouldn't expect to see much. The shadow>shdow tx's  will conceal sending addy, receiving addy and amounts. The shadow>sdc will all be created in newly created sdc addys (iirc) from unknown origin, and the shadow>sdc are equally mysterious in the block explorer. This is gonna be fun. Shadow is an empowering tool…

ha ha, the shadow block explorer will show unknown sent from unknown to unknown.

I am still working out the technicalities of this but rather than unknown it will show either the image (created during SDC to Shadow destruction) or the keys (ring sigs). Still work in progress and will have the team review it before we look at implementing it.

Either way it will not change the fact the Shadow TXs provide intractability and unlinkability.

ENTER THE SHADOW

Converting sdc to shadow is never a prob. going the other way can be a little fiddly at the moment (no big deal) but that will change when peeps start converting more of their holdings into Shadow

Send a few sdc>shadow txs of diff size to mix it up some. Check the Chain Data section of ur wallet to see what you've created! keep them as shadow as long as you can and convert different amounts back to sdc gradually if need be..

Someone mentioned sending 1111.11111111, thats a cool idea. be creative.

these shadowy tokens are the shizzle.

We must destroy sdc to create Shadow.
We must restore balance to the Force. At the moment there is too much light.
We need the power of the dark side to grow (50/50 shadow/sdc)
live long anon \o/

It's as if Ryno + Technovert just gave us a new car, say it's a Ferrari. Now we gotta learn how to drive it. We're still parked.
(hehe)

UPDATE: At this time I count roughly 42,000 shadow on the Chain Data. Lets see how quickly we can get to 420,000 Shadow and then to 1,000,000 (we should have a celebration for this milestone Smiley )

Very nice! I didn't know about that feature.

Now when I get home to my wallet machine, I'm going to destroy some SDC in quantities that will fill in some of the gaps. A small corps of Shadowcasters can manage this and make sure there are always coins available for anonymous transactions.

Aha here we can see the inputs, I totally forgot about the chain data tab... cool

Still having difficulty converting Shadow to SDC. The buttons in the wallet are ambiguous and there is no clear procedure; also unclear is the relationship between stealth and open addresses. That's something that really needs to be a priority for the secrecy aspect of the coin to be useful- we need a wallet upgrade with the SDC-Shadow addressed.

When converting Shadow to SDC this is what I do at the moment. Because there are few Shadow in the network (less than 1%) the amount of available inputs/outputs is very small compared to what it will be soon. Therefor I inspect the Chain Data section of the wallet and pick an available System I/O value close to the amount I wish to convert.

Say you have 552.3245 Shadow you wanted to convert to SDC, then I would send 550. This would go through no problem. As I say we wont have to think about this as the amount of Shadow increases.

Now before sending 550 i click the button "suggest ring size". this will change the ring size value automatically and it should now send without a problem.

Additionally my feeling is you should always leave some dust Shadow amounts even if u wanna convert all to SDC and cash out. These dust amounts (e.g. 0.5423) will improve the systems overall anon by confusing SDC>Shadow>SDC even more (in my opinion anyway).

A tutorial would be useful and Im sure members of this community could produce some good ones Smiley

Reminder: Convert more SDC to Shadow.

Is it better to convert SDC - Shadow in amounts of 500 or I could do 20,000 at a time?

I did 1,000 and 2,000 to test it out. I have made a new stealth address but it wont show up in my address book. Does that matter?

Cool.

SDC> Shadow is not "fiddly" at all (see above). So even at this time it is equally easy to convert 1000 SDC to Shadow as it is 1003.76456101 SDC to Shadow.

I think the important thing is to mix it up. So sending weird numbers like 1003.76456101 or 3333.33333333 would create a larger amount of inout/output values (i figure). Thats good. But sending 25 or 50 might also be cool.

Id like to here from a Dev on this. Good question.

The important thing is you're converting to Shadow! \o/

Yes agreed.

But if I can help the cause by sending specific amounts that are needed for the development of this project I will wait and utilise the opportunity instead of converting everything in 1 shot.

instead of converting everything in 1 shot.

Not sure if it's best to hold everything in Shadow.

ShadowCash is PoS after all and it stakes using SDC, if everyone went into Shadow the network strength would surely be weakened.

Probably 50/50 is a good number but would like the devs or experts to confirm this.

I am converting small random amounts from time to time.

Yes, as someone here already mentioned/suggested, it seems network-useful to send numerous 1111.11111111 SDC to Shadow – and since I/Os are in 1's, 3's and 5's, those will work as well (e.g. 333.3333.., 555.55..); but I guess having a lot of 1's is the best, since you don't have the situation when you need to divide your Shadow tokens, but can't (e.g. wanna covert 3 Shadow to SDC, but you only have "5" token).

Can someone more technical-oriented approve this, or is it a complete BS?

..but now that I'm looking at my Chain data I think I'm wrong. I've sent multiple 1111.11.. SDC to Shadow and I don't have any "100", just "400" etc. so the tokens might "combine".. Well it would be really useful if someone enlightened enough could explain. I'm done guessing wrong :]

It should be in ur Receive tab for sure. If not visible theres something u can click iirc (but I couldnt find it) so just restart ur wallet.

By the way I have 2 stealth addys so I could test out Shadow>Shadow myself. Dunno if creating more than one stealth addy is beneficial… devs?

You send what, to where? My instinct would be to set the "Shadow to SDC" option, send Shadow from my stealth address to my main address in my wallet. The coins should reappear as SDC at my public SDC address.

But even with very simple transactions, like 1 Shadow, it tells me there are insufficient outputs when asked to suggest a ring size. That doesn't make sense.  I'd like to see the Shadow-SDC conversion happen reliably a few times (not concerned about the dust) before leaving any more Shadow on the system.

OK.

A. You already created a stealth addy. You sent SDC to it with a "SDC to Shadow" send. You now have Shadow and SDC in your wallet.

B. You wish to convert some Shadow back to SDC.

SO

SHADOW TO SDC

1. Go to the Send section of ur wallet and select "Shadow to SDC" as the send type

2. Paste the stealth addy of the recipient (if u r the recipient then paste ur own stealth addy). this part is counter-intuitive but YES you enter a stealth addy to create SDC!

3. Enter a send amount of 100 (for example) If u don't have 100 try 10, if u don't have 10 try 1. If necessary refer to the Chain Data section of your wallet to determine available input/output amounts (this  will not be necessary as the Shadow network grows)

4. Click "Suggest Ring Size"

5. Click "Send"

6. You will receive the SDC in a new SDC addy generated in ur wallet on the fly (not ur old SDC addy).

IMPORTANT: This means you must BACKUP ur wallet again! Alternatively you could quickly send them to an SDC addy u do have backed up but I personally like the idea of leaving them in the new addy, rather than sending to an older SDC addy u may have linked with exchanges/merchants etc

Notes:

- If the stealth addy u paste in is highlighted red there is a prob with it. check there is'nt a space in the addy (this can happen sometimes when copy/pasting from the web)
- You might notice some unknown addys in ur Receive section after you make a Shadow>SDC. These appear as a result of the send and will disappear after the wallet is restarted. Your new SDC addy will of course remain.
- If it doesn't work restart ur wallet and try it again

Hope this helps Smiley
