Been doing some reading...So nodes have to be online for things to be listed? One cannot expect to leave their node offline? If it stays offline for 48 hours those messages get deleted that you received and you lose your offers? Does it differ mich from openbazaars p2p market other than being annonymous?
Marketplace wiil use the same protocol as shadow chat who don't losose your message if you stay offline more than 48h. I'm not a tech guy  and far to be an expert but I read shadow chat is share with all node (all node have all messages) but only people concerned by the message can read it.
not according to whitepaper

deleted after 48hrs and u lose msg if u dont cone online

Sounds like a valuable feature. If they seize/steal your computer they get 48 hours to crack the passwords.

What would be nice is to have some non-evaporating messages too for straight retail use.

LOL no I don't think so.. I think it is not useful for a marketplace feature. Because it is p2p i think that is why there is a time limit... otherwise you would be storing on the blockchain.

Yes that's true isn't it, if the receiving wallet is closed there is no place to store it other than the blockchain. I suppose there would be a way to do it on an IRC server.

edited- Or hey, maybe it could be stored in the transmitting wallet, and it could periodically query the receiving wallet to see if it is online and then send it.

With p2p you dont have bloat issues and you don't have the pesky fee scalability issue unless you charge a fee for listings etc. Openbazaar is free to list so doesn't have these issues. However nodes always must be running which is the drawback.. now the question is how useful is that vs a blockchain solution which will have bloat issues and fees need to be on par with kb/$ storage rates globally to be competitive and useful, however with blockchain you can track payments and nodes can be offline, and you can have a global marketplace of offers (consolidating all offers, or selected groups of offers) rather than only individual ones (I think with p2p you can only show the offers that YOU have in your wallet?). Maybe a SPV/pruned blockchain implementation might be best of both worlds...

Yes I agree, eventually the way blockchains are handled will need to be modified, for all coins. I foresee a system where different kinds of users will have different roles, and only the l33t will have the full blockchain. As it is now the full BTC blockchain takes days to load and no one but a crypto hobbyist or miner has the patience to do that, and it's hurting the coin.

The fee structure for the marketplace will be important. I don't think the marketplace or anything like it belongs on the blockchain, that's not the purpose of a blockchain. But having fees for listings distributed on the blockchain will make the rest of the users more tolerant of the pot and porn salesman, because they will be getting a piece of the action through their stake, and it will cut down on junk listings.

Ahh so there are fees per listing... your going to run into the fee scalability issue then.

Da fuq? Thats awesome, but i really wonder WHO bought all these coins suddenly...  Looks a bit like a big noobs move, so I'd say there is a whale around playing and trying to get us crazy.

I don't think any news are coming for now, and SDCdev is not around at the moment either from what I know...

I am thinking this is the accumulation phase for the people in the know about the audit. I have seen about +10btc organic go through this in the past 12 hours. The only issue is that Bittrex and Poloniex are the only trading platforms. Arbitrage could be possible between the two currently though.

We've just had a significant media event, that's probably the reason.

But that wasn't a big media event. Can you imagine if someone like Stossel on Fox did a segment on libertarian dark markets using Shadow, with his audience? Holy crap!

Yup

the geniuses at Apple decided 3 years ago to hide the user's Library folder.

OS X has 3 Library folders.

To access your personal Library folder in Finder

p.s. OS X users are not usually familiar with unix speak, paths or directories (translation = folders) or even ~

how will the marketplace offers be stored, what about the images/media and other info, how are they stored? I'm assuming your hosting each marketplace via the simple http server you have in your code? How is it decentralized hosting, that i thought was claimed somewhere about this coin?

As I understand the Shadow communication system, all the content for the platform exists in each wallet. That's the way the Shadowchat works- everybody on the network gets the message, only the intended recipient can read it or is alerted to it.

This may eventually create a bit of of bloat and I can foresee the wallet and its content getting very large after a while, but there is no free lunch.

^ this .. However the beauty of it running on the ShadowChat P2P network is that we have full control over data pruning ... So no bloat!
How is the data persisted? Like if there is an offer in the marketplace it essentially is only in your wallet and the html interface just shows it? Would another node be able to sell your offer in his marketplace?

Good you guys brought this up again as I was wondering this myself still..

On the subject of blockchain bloat, I saw this interesting post on reddit earlier: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/301r4e/crypto_primitive_shorter_than_current_monero_ring/

Adam Back I guess has suggested a way to decrease the size of ring sigs by about 1/2 of what they are today. May be interesting to some.

I think there are other anon solutions with bigger problems regarding the blockchain bloat then shadowCash ... I'm definitly waiting to see some more info and comparing into this... Ring sizes are already smaller I think, only I see could be way to many rounds are possible...
I'm not a professional at all but the more I read , the more I believe the tech behind sdc is pretty good.

I was into this project because of this, I was exploring the new tech , the nice wallet, delivery was on shedule etc and it looked all pretty cool.

I sold all my remaining stash last week.
