I have been trying hard for this one. When i saw that my stats had reset at ckpool, I thought, "no way, this is too good to be true", so I looked at blockchain, and sure enough, I did it!!
I went yelling through the house, waking everyone, "I just won $10,000"
and as i was trying to explain how I did this to my mom, I saw it had orphaned.
it was rental, I've spent about 5 btc over the past few days
Okay This worked before so lets try it again. In your honor of first orphan I will mine in your name for 1 day. If it hits we will split the block. http://solo.ckpool.org/users/1JdC6Xg3ajT3rge3FgPNSYYFpmf53VbtjeHope for history to repeat Wow, you are too kind! Everyone is so nice. Thank you.

Sucks. Happened to me a long long time ago when I was soloing with about 11GHs between a BFL Jalapeno and a few USB sticks. Saw I solved a block and a few minutes later it went into an orphan status.
Been out of mining for about 2 years now and just got a Spondoolies SP30 and a Terraminer IV for about $300 a few weeks ago. Not paying for power so I figured why not roll the dice and see what happens again with solo mining.
I've seen a lot of posts about rental hashing - and a few blocks solved... What's the secret? A dozen or so TH long term or 2PH for an hour?

Every gambler has a system. It's all about luck though. For someone who hits a block spending 0.20 on a rental there's someone who could spend 25, 50, or more and still not hit anything. EDIT: And the people who spent that much gambling and losing aren't as likely to post telling you how bad a decision they made as those who won. I feel like this thread should have a "if you think you have a gambling problem.." tagline. Haha. But the sad thing is that I say this also for my own benefit...

It will happen! yep, my s3 is dedicated to solo; even thought it would earn me ~ $1/day {"hashrate1m": "1.49P", "hashrate5m": "1.32P", "hashrate1hr": "379T", "hashrate1d": "19.7T", "hashrate7d": "3.22T", "lastupdate": 1447263975, "workers": 12, "shares": 572211924, "bestshare": 4978424250.5065622} first ever share over a billion. Feels good to see an insane hashrate for once. I probably wont do this much... ever. Still; a far shot from the ~62.3B needed.....

But this here looks fine! If it's OK i step in again?! 3 x SP 20 + 1 x S7 (the Hashrate varys a bit, so i would say approx 7 TH for 48 hours) Starting know 20:00h Berlin Time - Ending 13.11 20:00h Berlin Time. If you are optimistic, so i would say let's hit another Block! Best Wishes

Yeah it was orphaned by f2pool. F2pool's block was 5s later than the same height solo block. [2015-11-11 14:00:48.440+00] 0000000000000000045792b02a12ecf0767d50d392471a3fded2371d56ab7b8a recv'd, size 998146 with 111285 bytes on the wire [2015-11-11 14:00:53.293+00] 000000000000000008f0667bc0b60726ea2035d1bc6ab1910f81f2ed19d8741e recv'd, size 999907 with 954717 bytes on the wire
But f2pool confirmed their own block and thus, since it is the next found block that decides the orphan, in this case f2 pushed out the earlier solo block and orphaned it. At this point in time f2pool has 8 of the last 10 blocks ... It's somewhat very similar to how a 51% attack works because f2 is so big. 51% means it's expected over time to keep winning races, but with a lower than 51%, but still high % of the network, you can do the same for a short period of time if luck is on your side. On our server the block was solved at 14:00:48.479Z, only 39 milliseconds later than yours.

Well, that begs the question then, should a pool submit a block that it happens to solve between the time that it sees a new block solved by a different pool and before its workers are able to be updated with new work based on that new block? To intentionally create a fork just in case it sticks instead of the other one. How ethical is it to do so when, because of your hash rate, you have a high probability of being the pool that decides which branch to follow? How about a group of pools banding together to always support each other: In an orphan race I'll always favor blocks from a set of pools I like over a set of pools I don't like. Basically the 51% issue camouflaged to look like there are separate pools. Is it happening?
Stirring the pot.

If my block was clearly first, why did it get orphaned? just because they have a higher hashrate?
