I think I'd laugh pretty hard if I saw some guy with a large van sitting in front of a few charging stations powering a bunch of miners.  Mobile data center!

Epic project !! Cheesy

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

but there are ways around that by mining at work, mining at a hospital, an outdoor outlet somewhere,

Oh, you mean by stealing it?  Uh, no.

That's exactly what I said... you can actually be prosecuted for theft of electricity.

Next hotel trip I take I will mine a sidehack stick just to see if there is an issue.  Since the hotel provides free wifi and even free ethernet hookup I could run a stick or two.

I do believe I would be within legal usage if power was low.

I most often use the hilton garden chain I get free internet 24/7 and a laptop to a usb hub with a few sticks is nothing.

Heck If I unplug the refrigerator they save money.

But once again this is 30gh or maybe 40 gh using 25 watts or so.

Don't get all self righteous now. You could always ask instead of just plugging and mining. Most places that you already have a relationship with (work for instance) won't mind you running a tiny S3 under your desk as a footwarmer in winter or on an outdoor outlet.

You've never worked anywhere with an IT department it would seem.  Lips sealed

"What do you mean you want to use a non-company issued mouse?!"

LOL! No, I WAS the IT department. In that case just ask your supervisor and not the IT guys. "Hey, do you mind if I plug in a small personal computer here too? It's only about 1 ft by 6 inches and it'll fit under my desk. They'll say yes and you mine away. The end. It doesn't need to be complicated.

I'm the ITO for a privately held pharmaceutical company. I can tell you that it's not the IT person or your direct supervisor that has the right to grant you access to corporate resources, something like this is in the realm of the person that signs your paychecks and also pays the organizations bills.  Your supervisor could be terminate for allowing you to use corporate resources.

Corporate nonsense. Ask your direct supervisor. If he/she says OK then do it with their blessing. The person writing checks is a bean counting imbecile 9 times out of 10 that never steps foot in your area. Do you ask them before charging your cell phone? Of course not.

You can do what you want of course. I'm only offering a viable suggestion to those that have no other choice when mining.

Hey... if you're going to park your van full of miners near a charging station, why not piggyback on the wireless network from the Starbucks right there on the corner, too? Tongue

In all seriousness, owning your own hardware requires a bit more dedication than saying, "I'm going to try my luck and throw a bunch of rented hash at CK's pool."  In case 1, you're limited by how much available power you've got, cooling, all the standard crap associated with running your own hardware.  In case 2 it's just a few clicks.

Another benefit of the rentals is that you can drastically alter your hash rate again with only a few clicks.  Considerably harder to do that when you've got your own gear.

I think I'd laugh pretty hard if I saw some guy with a large van sitting in front of a few charging stations powering a bunch of miners.  Mobile data center!

I was serious.... Wink

I am thinking what if you loaded up a van with miners and park it at the free charging station for electric cars?

LOL! I never thought of that. As long as there's a free plug and you're not blocking cars from charging (move when the plugs are full) you might get away with it. Have to have internet access though.

The spots here are never used and most are at malls or stores that have free WiFi....

May be this is not new suggestsion, but it will be great if pool status will show "best share" for the whole pool.

Congrats!  Wonder if it may have been one of my miners.  I show a block find reported by one of them, and you've been renting them pretty solid recently.

Thanks! Yeah, I was wondering about that, could you grab a screenshot for me? I'd be curious to see if it matches up with what CK sees on the pool end.
