There was a DDoS at solo main again that appeared to have lasted about an hour which was mitigated by the ddos protection but connection to the pool at the time was affected as the attack size saturated the connection. All appears normal again now.

With the return of DDoS attacks I'll be reinstituting the front end redirector on the main solo pool to allow miners to keep mining even if the front end gets interrupted. This means that some rental services may be unhappy again unless they use port 3334.  None of this will affect anyone currently mining with there being no pool restarts or reconnects unless they reconnect themselves once the dns for solo.ckpool.org updates.

So should I continue using port 3333 for MRR as I already have a couple going ?

If they're already connected it won't be an issue. It will only be for new connections.

How often, with how many TH/s do people hit on Solo?

Does anyone have some averages that they have experienced?

Does anyone have some averages that they have experienced?

https://www.blocktrail.com/BTC/pool/solockpool

ck posts the worker info when they hit but you can also look them up manually at
solo.ckpool.org/workers/XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (the bitcoin address of the miner that found the block)
OR     de.ckpool.org/workers depending on where the miner was pointed.

**if the miner was using a worker extension on the end of their address this will not work!

Lastly, remember this is BTC!  Some people hit with 500Ths that is rented for just a few hours and others have 5Ths running on a home miner that just gets lucky one day (the reason most of us are here).

I only have a signature because I'm allowed.

It is pretty much random. There have been people that hit blocks with an S3, but this was when the difficulty was 40B.

My experience is with Phil's group rental we had in 2015. We had rented 3-4 times at like 5-10BTC per rental. I personally broke even when we received a couple of blocks.

But for rentals, if you put in 25BTC. You will likely, but not 100% guarantee to get a block.

HK mining node is currently down. For some reason the VPS provider I have for that node have it in their head that the way to cope with lots of concurrent connections is to suspend the service. Fuck you hostus.us . Never going to use them again. Luckily they're not responsible for solo or de.
Fuck them. It reminds me about edonkey p2p servers. They were keeping 10 years ago over two million concurent connections, and they also had problems with host providers.

Nothing is impossible :-)

They'll eventually get tired and quit. As for me, Sparky better hit in a hurry. My 20 year old TV shattered today when I moved it. Plastic was so old and heat-weakened that it was like a cookie. Glad it was unplugged. Time to shop for something less square and more flat Smiley

Solo mining is alive and profitable!

Hong Kong has proven rather unpopular. Is there interest in any other locations that I might add more solo mining nodes? There would need to be a substantial number of miners and it be somewhere distant enough from the existing servers though.

Well...I think many folks tend to (erroneously) equate HK with CN, and there's a bit of something to overcome perhaps. I'm happy with solo. and de.

HK was intentionally chosen to try and attract miners from China. As it turns out that didn't work at all, so it's ended up being a node for Asia-Pacific but it's very ronery with hardly anyone using it.

any plans for sg.ckpool.org?

If I provided you good and useful info or just a smile to your day, consider sending me merit points to further validate this Bitcointalk account ~ useful for future account recovery...

I might set one up as a trial and see if it becomes popular enough to support long term.
Okay sg.ckpool.org up for testing. I'm not using crappy VPS providers any more.

Connect to one of:
Code:
sg.ckpool.org:3333
sg.ckpool.org:443
sg.ckpool.org:80

All stats appear at solo.ckpool.org , do not go looking for stats on the sg server itself

I'm renting 100TH for a few hours at MMR but its only showing as 6TH on my solo stats: http://de.ckpool.org/workers/1BRHSQm3eT7gNmSorENetGgQswNToLnRC5

Rig is showing 100TH +/- 10%.

Possibly another bug or do I need to change pool / port?

de shouldn't be port dependent. Only main solo is, so something's wrong with your rental.

I've changed to solo.ck as hashrate went to virtually 0 after fluctuation between 50TH and 130TH for a few minutes. It could be rig....

EDIT: Rigs now showing 0TH, think I've killed it...

Quick question.

Should I even try to solo mine with let's say 5 TH/s? I see posts that you guys are throwing 0.5 or 1PH/s at it sometimes with no luck.

You can hit a block with any hashrate, however the more TH you've got the better chance you have Smiley

Only risk what you can afford Tongue

Basically it isn't said but those 0.5-1PH could all be small workers hashing little shares with minimum difficulty while if you had 1 or a couple rigs that equated to that you "might" have a better chance.

In saying that every day I have around 1TH-3TH pointed towards -ck solo pool for the lotto, one day I hope to read a new reply here and it is my address that found a block Cheesy

Nope, it doesn't matter if you have one machine at 1PH or one thousand machines at 1TH each, a hash is a hash is a hash and any one has just as much chance of solving a block as another.
