Btw, noticed that "sg.ckpool.org" is lagging about x10 compared to the benchmark "sg.kano.is" -- is this normal?

That is not the definition of lagging. They're different servers in different data centres (run for different pools even). One happens to be closer to you. Under 40ms is still very low latency.

It's just the highest share you've turned in since the last solve by the solo.ck pool and the highest share you've turned in ever, respectively. It's only for fun. It doesn't mean anything nor is it related to any progress toward finding a block by your miner.

So you are saying it is pure luck factor. More TH/s you throw at it, more chances you have?

In other words, you could get solo block with the rig at 5GH/s, if you are extreeeeeeeemely lucky.

One of the last ones to hit a block here was using 1.5T, in the scheme of things, it's nothing!!

If you're throwing 5ghs at the pool you WILL eventually hit a block. Heck, I hit with a simple 400 ghs S3. The thing is it may take you 5-50 years to hit or it may take you 30 days. It's all a numbers game.

The analogy I like to use is scratch-off lottery tickets. If you sit at the counter scratching tickets and you can do 10 per hour your chance of winning is pretty slim. If you clone yourself 100 times and 100 of you sit there scratching tickets your chances are much more improved. You can win much more often.

More TH/s = more clones of you. If you only have 400 gh/s then fire them up! Just don't count on a quick win. If you have 10 TH/s fire it up too! And your chances are much higher that you'll pull a winning ticket.

My sp20 started reporting solo as dead so I immediately figured I screwed something up but I pointed an s4 at it and it is now also reporting solo is dead. Oddly enough the geckos running in my office are still contributing quite well... this is odd.

Got friends and family bugging you to explain Bitcoin? Point them to https://bitcoinfaq.info for some answers. I've built the site to have simple answers to complete newcomers and info on what is involved in getting started with mining.

I'm openly taking questions and updating the site with answers and walk-throughs.

Only the redirector was affected by that attack so anyone already mining was unaffected. It should be back online now.

It's been sometime since I've done the whole block find, been renting 1.5th for nearly a year.

It was this time last year I had my amazing block run of 5 in less than 2 weeks.
That money in the end went to good use and helped me out greatly, which I thank CK greatly for running this pool.

Sadly a year on, all I have to show for it is my car sitting on the drive, (damn imagine the car I could of had if it was at the current value).

Today, seems to be a lucky week again.... I've now finally amassed 1BTC via referrals on MMR - now I only normally post in here so it's you guys that have helped me achieve this. Didnt think it was possible with the initial low referral value, but lately someone has been hitting it really hard - I truely hope it pays off for you all who are renting.

Though please please guys be careful as to how much you are investing - Dont let it become an addiction and spoil your fun.

And remember you can find free btc (small value) from different faucets, they do eventually add up.
