FoldingCoin - FLDC
Mine Medicine, Not Hashes

WHAT IS FOLDING COIN?

FoldingCoin is a rewards program that distributes reward tokens (similar to a retail store point program) to participants of the global Folding@home network. You earn FLDC by downloading our official Folding Browser created to get you set up easily. The FoldingBrowser will set up Folding@Home, FoldingCoin, and even CureCoin is another digital currency with a similar mission as FoldingCoin, but a different means of accomplishing it. You can earn both CureCoin and FoldingCoin by using the FoldingBrowser.

What is Folding?
Folding@home is a long running project (2000) from the folks of Stanford University that lets your spare CPU or
GPU simulate complex protein folding. The results of all this distributed computation is tabulated and analyzed,
to help find new medicines and cures to be derived to some of the worst diseases faced by man. But
there's a problem. There's no reward for sharing your computer cycles in this way. You can join a team
and you can earn points,
but there is no profit motive to help with research.

How to start Folding
The easiest way to begin folding is by downloading our open source "Folding Browser". This will not only bring you through the steps to ensure your setup is accurate, but it will also allow for you to begin earning CURE from our sister coin Curecoin.

Advantages FLDC & Counterparty
BTC miners hash the blocks for the transactions
Continued innovation by Counterparty developers
Shares a wallet with Bitcoin and all Counterparty Tokens
Secured by Bitcoin Miners

Interesting and admirable cause, but the crowdfund is far overvalued in my estimation.

I agree that it is overvalued, but we have the developer from the LTB website that is looking to do a complete overhaul of our website for only 6 BTC. 4 of the other BTC will be for distribution, and the last 10 will be for advertising. Its something to help get us off the ground, so far all cost are covered by myself and James our lead dev. The current value at masterxchange is 0.00000105

Mining for Medicine looks like a good concept.
It is something that was very attractive to me once i first turned off my rigs in March due to the ASIC scrypts. It gives a chance for your energy not to be wasted either. We believe that we could potentially triple the FAH network with all the altcoin miners out there who can no longer turn a profit with GPU mining on altcoins. We are calling it "proof of useful work"

That's awesome news! I know the radeons will work very well, but is the BL 30 you're referring to an asic miner? If so asics will not work

My favorite thing about this project is it has been great in getting my peers who are not in the BTC space or mining, to actually see a use for a crypto currency. I have gotten 3 friends who have never had an interest in BTC start participatin in FLDC since it helps humanity. This project can get the general public used to using cryptocurrency without having to buy bitcoin
