Not trying to preach to the choir here, but this is why we have pay miners guys.
....
SNIP
....

well said, this time I agree completely ;-)
devs can be greedy, but so can miners.
we need to find a good balance.

So about that Cryptonite miner...

Les jeux sont fait.

. Low and behold now not only is EWBF and Nicehash faster then Claymore, they're also more efficient. Getting almost close to 2x the hashrate of a 480, which is about on par with what speeds we should be getting. There are a lot of ignorant and uninformed opinions floating around the forums. They just go off of what they know and like 90% of the miners here are born from Ethereum AMD mining.
Agree with your points about dev.
For amd/nvidia : amd lacks new high end cards (vega soon ?). I agree nvidia are more efficient, but not significantly faster.

I am mining with a GTX 1080, a GTX 1070 (no longer)  two fury-x, a RX480.
The fury-x is doing 375 h/s which is as fast as nvidia GTX1070/GTX1080 but at 190w instead of 140-160.

For now RX480 are not very good at equihash, but they are efficient at cryptonight (monero): without bios mod but mem OC: 730h/s at around 100w. The GTX 1080 could manage around 640h/s.

Fury is a notoriously power hungry chip, not sure I believe you getting 190w for 375sols. There is a reason Fury-X's come with water cooling built in.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-radeon-r9-fury-x,4196-7.html

I'd have to see some wall numbers before I believe that. Not sure where you're getting your power numbers from, but there is no way the efficiency of Fury is close to a 480. Utilization of the chip would be close to 50% of what it's capable of if that were the case.

If you have to bios mod anything, that's completely out of the question. If you manage more then two rigs BIOS flashing is a huge risky waste of time...

A 480 is a better value proposition then a Fury simply due to efficiency. Like I said before, definitely don't believe your numbers for power usage on a Fury let alone Fury-X, which can use upwards of 350w (450w peak) under full load. There is a reason people are picking specifically Fury-Nanos and then bios flashing them to custom clocks and low power profiles for mining Ethereum (which of course doesn't translate to other algos).

Yes Vega efficiency might be close to a 1070... Maybe, but still not here and wont be for a few more months.

There must be some sort of pricing threshold that Equihash crosses where it becomes profitable to start up AWS instances. Like 50% of the hashrate that just magic'd out of thin air on Equihash didn't come from any of the other algorithms.

Or someone made a breakthrough with miner development.

About those amd numbers, they are real. I have been in selling mode for months but if I wanted to buy new toys, fury for $269 would be my choice.

The etherueum difficulty is decreasing rapidly. Miners move from ethereum to zcash as the price rise.

Mining only matters to miners. The only connection between mining and the recent surge in price and volume
is the end of the slow start, meaning there is one fewer variable for investors to worry about.

Whether the surge is real or just a pump, to be followed by a dump, remains to be seen.

5% wasn't enough to make up for the 50% increase in Equihash difficulty, it's not nearly at what it was earlier today currently though.

zcash diff isn't stable once again it's returned to the previous level 800k, it was not certainly because of etheruem

probably many miners from different coins jumped in

The nethashrate of LBRY is very low now. You make more than $2 a card@310mhash. Bether than zcash and ethereum

Sp-mod privivate #4 is recomended for maxwell and 1060 cards

I heard they are dumping bonds in the east...it could be related. Maybe their buying BTC with them. So it could go much higher .. but then again it could be one big pump. Time will tell.

EDIT: I'm unable to connect to port 4133 yiimp for J.

Equihash is different from the other hashing algos. The limit depends on the algorithm. It's a bit like sorting numbers. You have bubble sort, mergesort, quick sort, radix sort etc etc. Each algorithm has it's own limitations. The maximum speed is unknown. There is no known limit.

I wrote this a month ago and I was right. Smiley

the freeminer(which is not the one from 2014 but another recent cuda revisit with cuda 8.0) is giving me roughly 600 hash with a 1070, there is something better out there?

been having  lot of crashing on one GPU recently (micron memory), while the other is just fine (samsung memory). seems to trigger when nicehashminer changes algos, and/or as a result of LBRY or L2r2 mining.

i see theres a new vbios that promises improvement, and reviews indicate that while the samsung can OC 800MHz or more, the micron can cause issues at OC levels half that

24" PCI-E cables with 16AWG wires and stripped ends - great for server PSU mods, best prices https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=563461
