What matters is the useful new application of the technology. It has nothing to do with the partisan politics or moral character of the user.
I disagree greatly with this. If it weren't for partisanship and moral character then there would be no need for anon coins or even BTC in the first place. This community is moved a lot by people looking to make money and as such it is nice to see the tech in place but the need for this site is very much set in the fact that politics is a bunch of BS. New faces and solid ideas in the future should this idea work out...we need to elect the internet rather than a career politician. My point was that we need new applications of working trustless systems, especially to complex subjective things like government. Trustless accounting and accountability, if applied properly, could remove the BS/politics from government. Or at least, the opportunity costs of all political jockeying, underhanded influence, war-chest building, and corruption might be foregone or mitigated, allowing many aspects of government to work more efficiently. I'm no political scientist but I do know that there is an incredible social and economic cost to true democracy, and tying parts of its process to a working trustless system will bring down that cost. In this particular case I'm sure this Galloway guy is using blockchain-supported governance primarily as a strategic campaigning point rather than out of any altruism. That's not unexpected, but I think the ends will justify the means. And I believe it will be very difficult to un-integrate a trustless system in any application, trustless or otherwise, due to the opportunity costs they save. He won't be able to unring that bell if indeed he does manage to ring it. I agree with you in many ways, but profit isn't a dirty word. I'm a profit-seeker. I also happen to have a passion for cryptocurrency and a strong understanding of what it can and can't do. I can try to enrich myself and try to push it in the right direction and those two things aren't mutually exclusive.

I wasn't using 'profit' as a dirty word; merely making a concession that seeing this application in practice will be benefit to that context. And I don't disagree with you. There are heavy opportunity costs (not just financially but pretty much broad spectrum; the more people think about traditional politcos and their traditional strategies/positions the less chance there is for people to think about what better to do with their thinking/and behavior. Case in point; traditional marriage and religious motivated social issues are a waste of brain space and time when there are much larger issues we could be working towards solutions on). So essentially, I was thinking that Galloway may not be the proper choice for the introduction of this and that partisan politics and moral ethics are important...however, upon further consideration, if the tech finds a foothold and stays (in this form or another) than those two points might actually turn out to be moot. I'll return to a more or less passive observation role here...with hopes for success...; )

This is going to be interesting, putting it mildly. It would have been difficult for you guys to find a more controversial UK politician but, hey, all publicity for the cause of crypto-currency is good. This could get spun by the UK right wing as 'crypto-currency is evil' but FTITCTAJ..........go, BlockNet!

when is there going to be an XC thread back on this board? I don't follow at all the reasoning for there to be a blocknet thread but no XC thread..

There'll be an XC thread when XC emerges from stealth mode and relaunches. The site was taken down intentionally. More info? Join us on Slack.

You have it from Dan that xc is making a come back soon? We haven't chatted about XC for a few weeks, but last time it was the subject of conversation, we were looking at some pretty awesome new privacy tech to potentially implement. Hey, happy page 300 everyone!

Why BLOCK price has fallen so much recently?
Not a clue I'm afraid. Personally it looks rather nuts to me. Sell before the decentralised exchange is released? Crazy. At least it's actually a very low volume. Perhaps it's just a couple of people who need the BTC or something.

Will be sorted asap. (Beats me why that would cause people to sell, but hey.)

We're very excited to announce that a working build of the decentralised exchange, replete with order book, is now available for testing! Calling all technically proficient users: - please join #development in the Blocknet Slack (to join: http://blocknet.herokuapp.com) - indicate when you'll be available to test today (or in the near future) - We'll schedule a time to work with you. The process isn't user-friendly yet, hence it's a technical test. Of course, anyone is free to download the DX and have some fun with it.

Yes, there's an issue with the account details on the side of the hosting provider. It's annoyingly hard to rectify. (Thanks, bureaucrats.) We'll get something sorted.
