https://notendur.hi.is//~gunnar/smileycoin3.pngThe smileycoin, SMLY, is used for rewarding students for their performance in the tutor-web learning environment. The tutor-web system is a completely open and freely accessible educational system, with an emphasis on mathematics and statistics. This system is used in Europe and Africa, in high schools and universities. The Education-in-a-suitcase project uses the result from a successful fundraiser to get tablet computers with tutor-web based software and SMLY in the hands of low-income students in Kenya. Seems like your wallet has a problem. Take these two: 2018-11-13 00:26:25 CheckBlock() : prev block not found for 90948fd1daa35fd61915ff06f20c48c1f1cc807ab14a5b65aa5debf927858e9f. Ignoring... 2018-11-13 00:26:25 ProcessBlock: ORPHAN BLOCK 0, prev=41afbbf0e73cb780aaa6348879ecd10e05e240bd1f0ff1c710f65822d80049b4
These blocks are fine according to the block explorer but your wallet does not agree. - Make sure your wallet is up-to-date (recent version)
- You need to restart the wallet
- You may need to re-sync to the chain
- You may need to rebuild the entire blocks database
Windows 7
I don't know anything about Windows Under Linux you would go through and try the following ways to start the server (wallet), possibly looping through them... - stop the wallet
- restart wallet -- if this works, stop and be happy
- stop the wallet
- take a backup copy of wallet.dat!!!
- smileycoind --server --reindex
You could try adding specific nodes to the configuration file, smileycoin.conf: - addnode=130.208.71.203
- addnode=217.175.119.126
- and then restart, maybe reindex, etc Finally, only if nothing else works... - , delete all the block-files, blk00*.dat and repeat --make sure you have a backup of wallet.dat - or just the entire smileycoin folder!!!

More on this: We should also discuss the following idea regarding the SMLY premine: Rather than keep the premine hidden away in cold storage we could set up a formal board of trustees (for lack of a better term) with access to a multisig address where the premine is stored. So we would view the remainder of the premine as a fund to be used for a specific purpose. A majority signature would be required to send SMLY from the fund.
The fund would still have pretty much the same functions as the present premine, i.e. support the tutor-web with an option to occasionally fund R&D projects. We should use the opportunity to spell out exactly these functions, e.g. with a percentage split into each category. We should also spell out exactly the maximum amount spendable per year.
Make it so. We'll try -- just need to set up a formal board. More later. This was well received by the SMLY community so we moved forward on it and we now have almost everything in place: There will be a multisig address containing the remainder of the premine (about 15 bn SMLY). The result will be called the Smileycoin Fund. A Board will be formally set up, with a very formal mandate. A transfers from the multisig address will only be in response to applications sent to the Board. Each transfer (grant) from the Smileycoin Fund needs to be signed (multisig) by two members of the 4-member Board. Until now, most of the SMLY from the premine have been sent to the tutor-web wallet, where students can earn SMLY by studying. But in principle there is no reason to limit this to the tutor-web, so the new mandate will in principle allow the Board to accept applications from other freely accessible educational platforms. In addition, occasionally some SMLY have been transferred from the premine to special projects which support SMLY in some way. This will now be permitted to be up to 25% of the total grants each year. The mandate has been read through by legal experts and proposed Board members have agreed in principle. What remains is to to some final checks on the multisig methodology, verify that we've got everything right and then sign the mandate, both on paper and digitally. The Board members will be representatives of - University of Iceland, rector's office
- Education in a Suitcase
- Shuttle Thread Ltd
- African Maths Initiative

A while ago we mentioned how to use the donations from mining. You'll recall that it is hardwired that 45% of the coinbase goes to addresses which are currently handled by Education in a Suitcase (a non-profit dedicated to improving education in low-income regions). This is now over 1 bn SMLY. The amount has not been touched and will not be touched unless the price of SMLY goes up considerably. We need to discuss how best to use this. EIAS does need to support a few things: - Its own work, i.e. tablets, servers etc for schools in Kenya
- Wallet development (no formal funds for this yet)
- tutor-web development (esp Kenya-specific curriculum)
- ...
It makes no sense to start selling SMLY unless the price goes up a lot and the volume allows selling. That's not happening now. I propose that we select a number of large non-profit organisations such as the Malala Fund and get them to help us in getting more donors and investors - in return for a chunk of the SMLY donations (and a promise not to just dump it). We've talked about the Malala Fund before and as I recall we got only positive comments. Other options would be UNICEF. Comments?

You don't need to use a pool - solo mining works fine - see above for directions.

You don't need to use a pool - solo mining works fine - see above for directions. I am solo mining, it doesn't seem like I have much chance of finding a block on my own though. Looking at the block explorer I see NOMP is being used for pretty much 100% of the blocks found so I was just assuming that meant there was a pool I could join. https://chainz.cryptoid.info/smly/

Hmm. Which algo are you using?
The NOMP doesn't mean anything -- everything is listed as NOMP.

Are you using an ASIC? Otherwise use one of the CPU-friendly algos like skein, qubit etc

I'll try that when I get home, thanks. Just to be clear though, no one is using a pool at all?

The only pool software which may work is in the Smileycoin github repository. I'm not aware of anyone using it atm. It's freely available though and if you want to try then that's fine - but no guarantees

Do you have a miner you recommend? I'm having trouble finding one that has skein and/or qubit and also supports solo CPU mining

Quick status report on the SmileyCoinFund: You will recall the discussion about setting up a formal fund to replace the premine. This is now almost done. - A multisig address has been set up, tested in every possible way
- The premine is being allocated to this address
- A Board has been proposed for the Fund
- A formal mandate has been proposed for the Board.
The only thing really remaining is for the Board to formally sign the mandate document. After that the premine will be completely replaced by the SmileyCoinFund which accepts applications to specific projects such as funding rewards to students in the the tutor-web.

After a formal signing ceremony we have a Board mandate document signed by all the parties who hold private keys to sign withdrawals from the SmileyCoinFund! The University of Iceland has sent out a newsflash describing how UI backs the SmileyCoin with this signature. There is no longer any premine. Everything from those addresses has been moved to one multisig address. There is a SmileyCoinFund whose Board accepts applications from projects which qualify. Check the rich list! The link (in Icelandic): https://www.hi.is/frettir/haskolinn_bakhjarl_broskallarafmyntarLet me know if you want the English translation pasted in here - it's a bit long and you can find it in the Telegram channel at https://web.telegram.org/SmileyCoinInternational#/im?p=@SmileyCoinInternational
