That trying to prolong life of asics is bullshit...

That gear will be not usable after 6 to 12 months, so just get the max from it and don't care for their life.

I push them to the max and trying to mine as much is possible before next gen was released.
I have 2 sp20e and im lucky so far to not pay for electricity where they are located.
I sett one fan to 100% but second to 80% because there is very annoying fan resonance if both are set to 100% and that resonant noise can be heard behind wall.

My pair of s-3's have run non-stop since july I have them underclocked to freq 212 the two total 850gh and they pull about 650 watts.  the power cost is 2.4 cents a kwatt.

So I am doing the exact opposite of your advice. Since the cost to run the pair is 15 usd a month and they earn 75 a month I am netting 60 a month in usd.

I would hope to run these for 18 months .

at a diff of 126 they would pull in 27 usd a month and cost 15 to run. I think diff of 126 will not happen until jan  or feb of 2016.  So I nurse mine.

But to each his own  as your plan may work for you.

I tend to agree, although past history doesn't guarantee future performance--in this case in regards to difficulty increases.  I don't overclock my machines so I can sell them into the used ASIC market without feeling like a dick, but I also don't underclock them to prolong their lifespans.

Many people here will run under spec to gain higher power efficiency to offset electricity costs.  I prefer to run them in a less efficient manner to acquire more coins at a higher fiat cost.  I do this because if the coins jump in price by a factor of five or ten, the extra electricity I paid for them will be a nominal consideration.  I'm basically buying BTC via the exchange that is my local power company, but to each his own!

Cheers.

prices are high.

I think I like that anything that keeps diff jumps small and does not crash btc price works.

I was a bit too slow buying some china hosting from lee's group buy. I have 4 with him. I wanted to get to 5 or 6.

I have 3 sp20's in house.
I have a set of avalon 4.1's in house.  just about  5500 or 5600gh

the 4 s-5's with lee in China are around 4600gh

For now I need to stand pat for a diff jump,  I hope for <2% diff jump and  >5% btc price rise around March 22nd

BTC1.609 including shipping is what I am coming up with at this time.

Phillip, with FREE electricity, and ZERO difficulty increases, that would mean an ROI time of 132 days.  If you put ANY realistic figures for electricity cost or difficulty increase (as in, the real world) You'll see that nobody should be buying these.  It is a blatant slap in miners' faces.

I belive the reason bitmain are touted to have is the lack of fruition of another competitor's release of a new chip in the (previously anticipated) near future, thus the difficulty increases that had been factored into the BTC futures (had they gone into production), have now been pushed back. A result of this SHOULD be a filip in the value of BTC (which it seems to have had a bit of today) and consequently bring the BTC price of the S5 back / nearer to its earlier listing. If this does not materialise, then I am sure bitmain will be issuing S5 coupons (never got any for the last round!) to mitigate. Nevertheless, that price rise was / is ridiculous!

EDIT: Just realised, bitmain's logic and reasons are a bit flawed! If the lack of competition coming to market is the major reason for the hike, then BTC value has to rise to at least US $364 per coin (I have it around $289 now) .... not impossible and there's definitely a filip in BTC value today, but that has to be in the next few days  ...!

Hmmm...Came home to find both sp20's cycling and not connecting to pools.

What's the best procedure to fix? I restarted both but still not connecting.

Internet must have went down. Odd because it appeared to be up. Restarted modem and router. All good now.

Whoops, wasn't asking for advice on the power settings. BTW if you select any of the "Basic" settings, it auto puts those super high wattage figures in. Anyways, I'm happy with my current power to hashrate figures so not going to muck with those.

My pictures were intended to point out that I had the extranonce setting on 2 and was still seeing cgminer4.7.0 in contrast to what the previous poster mentioned. Trying to get that issue resolved.
As you have, plus adding #xnsub to the end of the URL and a restart worked for me on all miners.  i.e.
Code:
stratum+tcp://stratum.westhash.com:3334#xnsub

I have used this config and It doesnt seem to work in westhash.

Also, my miner has this config:

CGMINER Version : NA

what does that mean?

I cant enable extranonce.subscribe

Hi everyone.

I been having problems with a sp20e that is giving me headaches.

When I turn on the unit, the G and Y Leds stay off, the NIC Leds do report an ethernet link but the fan goes to full throttle and stays like that.

I already tried the sd_recovery/sd-boot methods without any luck. I tested the PSU with other SP20 and it works fine.

The unit was working just fine, but I found it like that one morning.

Should I try something else before I open a ticket with spondoolies?

Cheers

Hi,
I have the same problem. I tried the sd recovery and sd-boot methods. The machine with problem is inaccessible from network; my router didn't give the miner an IP address.
And the spondoolies support email tell me :

please try contact support Skype. They need a way to access the machine.

Open port forwarding to the unit or install chrome remote desktop.
Make sure you can power cycle the unit.
Make sure you have proper HTTP access to the unit. If you don't - find out the unit IP with IP scanner.
Download putty to your Desktop in case you use windows.

WHY?!  The OS on the miner is not starting obviously

Does myminer.io show the rig and it's IP on "Your Miners" page?

If it does show an IP but you are unable to connect, you have a similar issue to what I had.

Download LanScan [or similar application] to scan for IP addresses on your network.

Once you do, you will find out the IP address myminer.io has given you does not even exist.  However, you should see a new IP address on the device [At least in LanScan].  Enter that IP address in the browser address bar of your browser.  If that isn't it, try another IP Address you see in the LanScan application or similar application until you find it.  If you do not find it, do as Spondoolies said.

I use MacBook Pro's [not PC] at my house.  LanScan, is an application I downloaded from the Apple App Store.  If you have a Mac, I suggest you download that application.  It is quite nice and it was free.  They have a LanScan Pro that cost money but I did not get it.  I didn't even need the Pro version to fix my issue.

You may have had your SP20E for a while and it is only now that this has happened.  It is still possible for this to happen if you did not go static IP or you did not assign each rig an IP address [manually] while in DHCP like I did.  If you have a power outage and the power comes back on [while using DHCP] it is quite possible your router assigned a new address to that one rig but myminer.io still says it was the previous IP.

My issue with IP addresses came up both times [when I first set up my 15 SP20E's and after a power outage when I did not have an IP manually assigned to each rig yet before the power outage].

Sometimes, after a power outage, I have to go to "Pools" and click "Submit" [Even though all my pool info is entered in].  Because the home page of the miner would say CG Miner was not working or "NA."  Once I clicked "Submit" on the pools page [sometimes I clicked 2 or 3 times] the rig would begin mining and CG Miner would be "Running" on the homepage.

I hope this helps!

If it did, Happy Mining!

If not, do as Spondoolies Support suggested with Skype.

I have 4 sp20. One is burned; magic smoke an smell is out from controller board. One with network leds blinking but I can't access and 2 full functional.
I have a tp-link router; all miner use DHCP; the router do not assign an IP address to 3rd miner, only 3 IP, 2 to the functional miners and one for my laptop!
