Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

I see only one thing with the S5 .. having chained chips to drop the voltage, you either run the whole chain or you stop the whole chain.
I'm praying for you guys, that, if you buy one or more of those .. "let the chips be all good!" .. and "Good Luck!" in tweaking the chain voltages.

Merry Christmas!

Later Edit: This brings back memories .. During high-school, I was building guitar amplifiers for the band I was singing in .. since the budget was limited, I skipped the potentiometers in the pre-amp. So we used them for a start maxed out .. 150W sinus per 8 ohms channel. I had to eventually add the parts in later. It was fun for about 3 days tho'

Will the S5 have WiFi by adding an antenna like the S3?

Hello all,

Bitmain has employed me to help liaise with the community and later provide technical support. They have done this in order to help provide:

1) timely technical support
2) provide better feedback (if I don't know, I can find out from the people within Bitmain who will)
3) provide product and sales input from you guys directly into the company. If something is going wrong, YOU can fix it
4) provide native English press releases - less ManderEnglish, more sense.

This is a paid position, however it will in no way affect my independence or freedom in being critical towards Bitmain outside of this thread. My contract specifically stipulates:

Quote
Dogie will speak on behalf of BITMAIN and will not criticize BITMAIN in these threads. Dogie still reserves the right to criticize BITMAIN in his other threads. Both parties acknowledge that this relationship has no impact whatsoever on BITMAIN’s rating or standing in “Dogie’s ‘Manufacturer Trustworthiness” thread.

This means I won't sit here and reply to every post saying Bitmain is a scam, don't buy from Bitmain etc etc, in this thread. It does NOT prohibit me from saying that in my own threads, if that is what I believe. It also has absolutely no impact on their rating in the Manufacturer trustworthiness thread [in which Bitmain just went down 10 points].

No offense but your contract literally states "these threads" as the definition of those you will not criticize them in, I sure hope the phrase "these threads" is defined elsewhere in your contract.  If not you put yourself in a piss poor legal position, regardless it's conflict of interest 101 even if you make this claim.. Giving you investment of time I get it, however recognize it's human nature to be bias toward someone paying you, even if you consciously try not to be.

If they lowered the price to $425 WITH shipping included, I'm sure that they could sell a good lot.

it doesn't have a lid?

Specs ok but don't like the open design. I wish the price were lower also.  Undecided

It does have a lid, just for show. Otherwise the pictures would be identical to S3 Tongue

You might want to read what Bitmain says before posting.  No top or bottom.

You might consider taking your own advice.  BM responded and said there is a bottom, but not a top.  An "open top design." ;-)

Yep...I read that and forgot as I posted.  I stand corrected. Smiley

Everyone loves TOPLESS right?  Grin Grin Grin
S5 batch 1 will even be the Bottom Less!!...  (I thought it had the bottom plate but I think I was wrong.  I just realized that....)

Side will  have the cover.

Bottom = YES
Top = NO  (Open Top Design)

So have we heard definitively whether or not there is a top and bottom to this unit?

(not being a troll...)
I will say, I think that this is a great idea... he benefits to those living in colder climates , it's good.

Merry Christmas!

Although, take your pick...bottoms or no bottoms...as he posted later, still pretty fluid right now.

How many chips are in each chain? the whole board (30 chips?) or less?

However, SP20 is a known performer, while quality of S5 is unknown, but I expect it to be good.
What makes you expect that?..

Each board has 30 chips; each chain is 15 pairs. At 12V it divides to a Vcore of 0.8V per chip.

it's just probability...S1 was good, S3 was good (for me); S5 seems to be more like S1.
S2 was not great, but not bad. S4-did not buy because of power supply problem in batch 1.
The caution for me is in the chains while in SP20 you can regulate chips voltage-very neat.
I got one, will buy more SP20, S5 or both-will decide soon.

Its all speculation as none of us at Bitmain has a crystal ball  Wink

Here's my quick and dirty projection:

1155gh/s currently returns an expected .0147btc per day.  Assume no diff change then 90 day return would be 1.323btc. At current rates that's $436 including psu.  Thermalake is the cheapest PSU I currently see for $67. That would make the S5 cost should be $369 to break-even in 90 days with 'free' electricity.  Any value to sell or mine with after that would be used to offset electricity costs and profit.

So basically if it can't gross it's cost in 90 days, I don't expect it to ever ROI.  This is being rather liberal since diff will change and most have to pay something for electricity. I also don't take into account changes in btc price as if it changes, buy and hold makes more sense.
