SP20 wins hands down in all departments. Bitmain still haven't got the S3 firmware right yet, so I can't wait to see their attempts at getting this working properly......

bloody hell Pat, what happened to your trust rating? you been getting in a scrap?

 Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Yeah, dogie hates me, BAN hate me too..... Roll Eyes

None of it are from sales - they just hate me......

I got some -tive from that Hashfail shill, he's a proper cunt. lol

oh? what? the S5? yes... of course.... dogie is getting paid to give it massive prop, Bitmain are clearly a little behind the curve with regards to that one  Cheesy

Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

Yeah, I've pretty much given up on Bitmain now for quite a few reasons - dogie being one of them....... Cheesy

I hate to admit it, but I'm in the same boat.  If I want to deal with Bitmain, I'll communicate directly with Yoshi.  Some of dogie's posts are out in left field or trying to hard to represent a 'good deal'.

Not an argument, but comparison.  modify *X* to approximate performance of S5.  If you only compare 1.7T to 1.1T then obviously 1.7T would win.

Same here, I only deal directly with them - they laugh at dogie more than we do, they even laugh at my profile sig about him too  Cheesy Cheesy

Meh.

I'm still irritated with the S3 -> S3+ debacle, and the S3 firmware still being broken such that the #$*@#!nG alarm still goes off when the pool goes dead - ignoring the checkbox setting in the webGUI to disable the alarm. Woke me up at 3am in the morning last night.

Thanks Bitmain.

The S3 launch was a tremendous disappointment and, IMO, burned a lot of goodwill with this community.

Experience is telling me not to touch the S5 with a 10-foot pole. Not batch 1's anyway.

...
-underclocking: chip voltage cannot be adjusted via settings like with the S3+/S4. instead, a lower supply voltage is necessary, which is not easily achieved without buying a dedicated 9V, 250W PSU per antminer in a few months from now.
...

I just wanted to write similat thing. Since it's "chained chips" design performance and efficiency will be correlative to PSU. Not many folks out there is willing to modify their new shiny 1500W platinium PSU's with 10 years warranty...

Interesting...

Are these chips on the back side DC-to-DC voltage regulators ...or NOT ... Huh

This. Precisely.

What batch are they on with the S3's now? And they still didn't get it right.......

$450 seems little high

with shipping and customs tax on top.

and poor English support. The new SP is far more efficient and what Asicminer has coming.

Price and specs are a bit disappointing. Even with the L1 coupons still doesn't seem like a good deal.

Underclocked, i'm getting < 0.51w/gh (at the wall) with my SP20 already, and at 1.1TH/s... I see no reason to buy S5 since the SP20 gives that at low clock, and then I have space to move up if I want to.

exactly and likewise here. I'm already matching that efficiency with SP20's and with new offerings due out shortly, bitmain are simply too far behind the curve now. With no underclocking directly available via standard 12v power supplies, it's a fail.

It will be interesting to see what Bitmain's poor choice in employees, ie dogie, will rate it. I'm sure being paid what influence his/hers/its rating.

Bitmain, I have purchased dozens of your products in the first half of the year, but your recent decisions including hiring dogie, sorry, you've made me look elsewhere.

agreed, and if there is going to be an S6 with relative specifications to the S5, well... SP31 is even more efficient than the SP20.
Just tinkering with mine now to get the best possible efficiency (0.51w/gh at the wall and 3946GH/s) ... Wink

i hereby throw down this gauntlet to BMT  Cool

+1. The SP20 can be clocked to match the S5, and can easily be clocked higher or lower via the UI, not by having to find a reliable&efficient 9V or 6-10V adjustable source.
(friedcat did a similar thing with the prisma - saying if you can feed it 11V its more efficient - but in reality thats easier said than done)

If you assume an MOQ:2 as before, and shipping of ~$100/unit like for the S3 you get two approximate options;
3x SP20 = $1900 shipped, or $630/unit
3x S5 = $1350+shipping (~$300) = $1650, or $550/unit

or
15xSP20 = $8000 shipped = $533 each
20x S5 = $8400 (no info on shipping) = $420 each (plus ~$50 shipping?)

TBH its not bad pricing on both sides, but the spondoolies have FAR more flexibility to adjust for higher hashrate or better efficiency, while the S5 is stuck based on the input voltage.

i suppose the upside of BMT gear is that they go well on ebay.
If I was buying one of these, i'd probably just list it straight away and not bother mining with it myself.

also - will the S5 have a full-frame case again like the s3? None of the pictures show a top cover, or even a bottom cover. I assume its to show off the innards, but if a lid isnt actually included the entire dynamic is changed somewhat.

ps: The Sp20 has all the connections at the front, and could be stacked into a 5x5 grid unlike the antminers, which can only stack side-by-side (becomes an issue if you have limited space or 15+ units)

$450 plus probably $100 for shipping. $550 for 1.1 TH at 600W. Efficiency is good, but that price is not.

S5 only shows a single fan so I expect it's a surrounded case utilising the same format as SPT with air being drawn through, rather than pushed through.

The S5 does have a clear advantage for some people. The fan noise. Some just can't deal with the SP20 noise.
