i think the problem with the s5 is the temp sensors are on the outside of the board on the other side of the chips that are making the heat.
the temps are not very accurate..

Been trying to scour this thread for some info on reducing noise levels for this thing. Whats the best fan to use to get quiet operation?

I have two Coolmaster 50 CFM fans these things are quiet and will putting two of them at each end be enough to cool and S5? (I can under clock as well since noise > hash rate.

I would tend to agree with that, when we see temps go up and down we don't get a good sense if that is just one side, board components, chips, all chips etc. What we do know is that taping up the top and bottom does tend to help by a few C though. Not much and probably not enough to care, but it follows the theory.

I actually have done pretty good the past week with mine.  Normally I was going 1 or 2 times a week to reset.  Now Ive went 3/4th of a week without needing to.

Cant say anything caused it just luck, but I hope it keeps going.

FWIW -- I've gone several weeks now with no issues with my six S5.  The temp outside and especially inside has risen considerably (me in my drawers), and yet they've hung in quite well, not yet exceeding 63C.  Of course, I changed the fans and dropped the clock to now 312.5MHz, but fact is, I've been expecting temp complaints -- haven't happened.  I use switched Westhash and haven't experienced any lockups since raising the clock from 306.25MHz to 312.5.  I did experience one situation where the reported temp rose to and exceeded 80C on two miners, but power cycling plus cool-off period corrected the problem, hasn't re-occurred.  So, I don't know if I'm just being lucky or what, but although the S3 is clearly a more bullet proof beast, the S5 is currently doing well for me.

I have one that at one point it seemed about once a week I would reset it.  It's gone around a month now without a reset.

Some of it is kinda rediclous.  No legit company will falsify invoices to lower your taxes.   You should have known that when ordering from a legit company.

I highly suggest you looking into hosting if you ever buy another miner.  Your import tax of over 100 percent would kill any asic deal from a good company.

It seems to he hashing fine.  I would guess the one that say's 38 could be off unless very cold, the near 50 one seems more "normal".

But as long as it's hashing and has one accurate one to stop it if it reaches to hot, I would might not be perfect but is working fine it seems from hash.

someone here did suggest us to underclock s5.
because of curious i did underclock my s5 and s3.
at some point (1 0r 2 step below stock) doesnt affected hashrate.

now, for s5 i did 2 step below stock and 1 step below stock for s3.i will let it run for a week to review payout.

Block size and mining (the act of finding the nonce that fits the difficulty) are two separate concerns. No action is needed.

I'm not really surprised they've held firm at the $340 price for so long - They are the only game in town at present, and can charge whatever they want for their products.

I not a fan of such arrogant behaviour.

As a result, for the last few months, I've been taking advantage of the low BTC/USD pricing, and every time I think about buying another miner, I just buy 1BTC instead on Coinbase and think to myself "Now wasn't that easier and more cost-effective ?"

Given the current price of ~$235 USD/BTC, it doesn't make any financial sense purchasing miners at their current pricing. An S5 priced at $340 is presently looking @ ~1year of runtime for ROI, excluding electrical and power supply costs.

It doesn't make any sense at all to buy Bitmain products, presently - A ROI will be difficult and uncertain.
