Each new act of this farce reaches previously unimaginable levels of fail.

Bravo, I feel like I'm almost getting my money's worth of cringeworthy entertainment.
Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

If you have 2/3 of the funds left, PLEASE give me back at least 2/3 the btc you own me.

It would help me sleep at night. You already confirmed me and I have gotten nothing so far...

Just like the 18k BTC theft, this one is also very convenient.

I imagine no police report also on this one.

Bullshit. You guys(Bitcoinica customers) are being taken for a ride.

See https://github.com/davout/bitcoin-central to see how you properly store production passwords.

protip : not directly in the fucking source code

Pro tip 2: for months now the whole problem of how to properly store passwords has been holding up Open Transactions development because of the intricacies of how to convince the various different operating-systems never ever ever to let it land on disk, including by not allowing the memory it is remembering it in get swapped to disk. Its stuff like this that has made Open Transactions late to market.
Let's leave the advanced tips for when the basics have been understood Smiley

This has resulted in the loss of one third of all the Bitcoinica money which has been stolen from MtGox. (40k BTC / 40K USD - the mtgox daily limits)

When did this happen? In a single day or over the course of many?

Are you saying 40,000 USD + 40,000 BTC were stolen? Or the USD equivalent of $344,800 at today's exchange rates?

Hey, if people get back 66.6%, that's more than MyBitcoin gave its users.

Stop complaining. Grin

They get hacked on a daily basis. I doubt that there will be anything left, before they really start to pay back.

he explained exactly what happened.

Did he? He seemed to be claiming that a third party secure password storage site allows enough tries at guessing someone's password to their entire collection of passwords that some random hacker was able discover by blind luck which other site password or API key Tihan had used at the third party password-storage site.

Seems more likely Tihan set that up as a pre-prepared "excuse" then someone arranged to set up Gox with a fortune for "someone" to "steal" by "accidentlly' neglecting to use a Yubikey-secured account so that the "excuse" would pass muster with the extremely credible.

If I remember correctly it's one of your colaborators that is the prime suspect of being the BitcoinicaHacker.
Was it also BitVPS that was hosting Patrick's email server?

No inside job indeed...

Who's gonna believe this?

At least it's funny to see the whole epic story of this properly executed fraud.

However I can imagine a lot of people finally loosing their good manners.
Therefore it could become of outmost importance for the perpetrators to take the diffusion of responsibility to the next level.

It should simply be called MyBitcoinica.

Actually, I forgot that supposedly a few users already got paid out 100% of their claim, so unless they add some new money, people will get a little less than 2/3.

First I thought maybe one of them is actually Tom Williams.
But then, this Tom Williams handled the mybitcoin hack way more professionally then those "professionals".

I honestly feel sorry for all the people that lost, and keep losing money because of this.
I also feel very sorry for all the operators and the Bitcoin Consultancy, errors can have disastrous consequences, we're all humans, we all fuck up eventually.

I wish everyone that is impacted gets out of this with minimum suffering and stress.

As a Bitconica customer:

  • I have $38,626 (BTC+USD combined) in Bitcoinica. (2 years of hard savings)
  • I had no positions, no leverage, and was using it as an interest bearing savings account.
  • My claim has been verified as accurate on 3 occasions.
  • I have received exactly 0 back over the last 2 months.
  • A large part of my deposits was from a 5 digit USD wire transfer between my bank account and Bitcoinica's bank account in NZ (CORE CREDIT) and cleared only 2 days before Bitcoinica was taken down.
  • I had previously requested Bitcoinica to put all customer funds into escrow until the reimbursement issues were resolved

And now *THIS* happens?

You already showed us that your funds are not secure many many times.

The money is mine, I gave you all the report, you own me 5k BTC....................................

At least give me back the 2/3rd so I can not fall into a huge depression for loosing all the hard work I have accumulated into money this last few years.

I dont care wether it is zhou, genjix, or whomever. How can you sleep correctly knowing this mess.

Especially you zhou, I dont know many money you made of this bitcoinica startup but my life is kinda broken right now, but you sold it and made many money out of it, because of the trust people like me have put into your work.

Yes i am angry. Terribly sad and angry. For months I have been patiently waiting, because hope is better than nothing, but know I feel like hope is going away/

I might quit my job on monday. I cant bear working so much so I can extract a few hundreds euros each month while I lost all this money.

Yes, my fault in some way, for trusting you, but I am paying it full price while you guys are just suffering staint to your "reputation" ? How do we fucking care about your reputation ? Act like grown men and stop sending back like ping pong your "reputation" ?

There are broken people here like me and you guys shit us about "it is not me. I hate being associated wiht this. I dislike this staint to my reputation" WE DONT CARE. Sorry zhou but how can you feel good when your loyal customer have been broke for trusting you ? Hope the money feels right; my years of work have been wasted.

You care about your reputation ? Hand your money to the legitimate verified accounts as a buffer and then take the payments from bitcoinica. If not then WTF stop talking about it. Same goes for anyone associated with this.

And sorry genjix & the bitcoin consultancy or wathever, but you were in charge so lock everything correctly so thats YOUR RESPONSABILITY. WE DONT WANT YOUR FUCKING EXCUSES like "I dislike how badly this was done".

And you even gave back some people 100% because they are friends or wathever ?.............
