as long as it preformed to my expectations, it wouldn't matter how it did so. of course, for a dacia to meet the expectations of a BMW... well, the basic functionality might be the same, but not the OTHER expectations.

but an alterra hardcopy with the announced stats vs a true full custom ASIC with the stats? i really don't see the difference. course based on what i've read around these forums, i gather those stats wouldn't be possibly with a hardcopy.

After BFL know that you're running this processor providing cheap as explained ngzhand forum and it turns Altera offers the option to create your own chip from StratixIII bitstream ,do not know why they call this ASIC in Altera http://www.altera.com/products/devices/hardcopy-asics/hardcopy-stratix/hst-index.jsp page when ASIC really not a hardware but a conversion in a bitstream of an FPGA, is much cheaper to produce (about € 300,000) and the result is a chip cheaper than a FPGA and less consumption but with the same performance.

This would solve the lack of supply StratixIII for BFL and would open the door to announce that it is the first manufacturer of ASICs for BTC when Altera misleading advertising is simply a hardcopy of a lifetime.
