According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

Below are some project facts stated by the developer (john-connor) on http://vanillacoin.net/forums/viewtopic.php?id=385

--------------
Project Facts

1. It is Angel Investor backed.
2. It is my full time job working 12 hours a day 7 days a week.
3. It has 6 months of Research and 6 months of Development put into it.
4. It is developed by someone that has worked on every major peer-to-peer technology dating back 15 years.
5. It is the most energy efficient crypto-currency designed to date.
6. It is the first crypto-currency to encrypt all communications pathways.
7. It launched with a fair solo distribution algorithm by defending the network from superscalar symmetric multiprocessors, super computers and bot nets.
8. This is just the beginning.

Thank you for your support.

I won't talk about the other points but I wouldn't advertise what's in point 5.
Having a publicly available gpu miner which can be largely optimised is not a good thing. It means only a few people will mine it efficiently.
The same happened to groestl coins: they advertised an energy efficient mining algo that in a few months became power hungry because of optimisations coming out at a fast pace. Of course some people had the faster miners almost since the beginning...

Whatever, from my understanding the energy efficiency is within the PoS which starts at a later point. From the whitepaper reading it should be far more efficient than Peercoin and others.

GPU mining is more energy efficient than X11.
More importantly the wallet and staking will be
lightweight for mobile phones.

It seems that diff retargeting is not functioning. Diff is still high while net hash fell a lot. Maybe I'm wrong but could be another bug looking for a fix.

While diff is slowly creeping up, the block time went down from 200s and should be around 80s soon if it's not there yeat. So this compensates for the higher diff.

Posted on the Vanilla forums last night...

Quote
The next release for Windows and Mac OS X will have a console window where you can issue RPC commands. I have the GUI portions completed but still need to implement the middle-ware and stack level code. I don't expect this to take very long unless I get derailed.

Thank you for your support.
