Still really bitter about selling my shares at 1.3 Sad Sad ....

But that didn't stop me from buyin' back in at 2.45 the other week . Man ASICMiner is just on a tear right now !   Dividend me up Smiley

I think most people would not buy back at twice the price they sold, what's your thought process on buying back? I sold 10% of my original holding at 0.9, another 20% at 1.75, and have 70% left, plan to sell another 20% if price reach 3.25, otherwise I will just hold for divs. Bought everything when the PT started, at 0.65

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

nah I just mocked that up real quick mostly as a joke, didn't actually order any or anything.  Cafepress is just a site where anyone can create a tshirt design. I don't own it, and I'm not selling them.

The delivered status was frozen for what seemed like forever well it is no longer frozen.
yeah, but the backlog is enormous.  those units were ordered last June/July.

How can that possibly be competition for products that are ordered this week, shipped this week?

While I agree, there is indeed some crossover. Your average bitcoiner is not only ignorant enough to compare BFL's offering with AM's and choose BFL, despite uncertain shipdates, but they are also ignorant enough to not even know AM blades exist. BFL does better marketing, that is a fact.

Ok. So how would lowering prices two weeks earlier change the fact that the average BFLer doesn't know about AM HW?

You may say that advertising/marketing is the key, however I'll argue that we don't know if AM is not deploying and/or selling all the HW they can produce, so going wholehog on marketing might be a mistake. IE: They might get themselves in a situation where they are either constantly sold out, or building an ever deepening backorder. (Recent divs seem to indicate they are deploying and selling a lot of HW.) The fact they have quick turnarounds is what allows them to charge a premium price.

I'm guessing that as they ramp up production, they will remain competitive with what's available with short delivery cycles. Looking forward to them owning the market when the competition finally does show up. (How many TH will they have shipped and deployed by then?)

(...) we're speaking about a multi-million company now, not just three guys doing everything from A to Z in their garage! (...)

Does one actually exclude the other?

And does anyone know if there are any employees, or if there are just the three founders? I mean, what they have managed is pretty impressive, and there are good reasons to keep the ship tight and not incur too much overhead if it can be avoided.

Early on FC talked about the challenges of hiring enough trusted staff fast enough to build and staff all of the datacenters they needed.

Based on the ridiculous numbers of boards they have running, it seems they were able to solve their staffing issues.

As an early investor, I just want to say thank you friedcat for being so awesome. While my interest in bitcoin is mainly its potential for making markets more free, it sure helps when you get orders-of-magnitude investment returns from a really well-run company.

You know we're living in the future when we can trust a chinese guy named friedcat on the net, and a swedish guy named deadterra on the net, more than our local/domestic banks!

Thanks and have a freedom-laden evening!

People are still investing in SDICE are getting about <20% return.  If asicminer keeps up at this sort of return your looking at 80%

My calculations are probably a bit little off, but to reach returns of 20% at this last div share price would need to rise to 9.9BTC or about there.

So compared to SDICE, there is a lot of upside if the divs keep around this level, and still some upside even if divs stay around 0.014.  At least for the next few years.

I made a doc here with my calcs: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aolrf3NsfbUrdExVWUNMUnZtQ21kQnZzQmFfRmc0WEE&usp=sharing

In the end, make your own mind up.
