The way I see it crave is building the important infrastructure first setting up a network that will be impossible to fully shutdown or compromise from distribution. As users may stumble to set the complex stuff up not everyone knows about more would be apt to be a standard user of service. market will be here when dev releases and when the network is ready

If you want to use more cpu cores change the last line to:

qmake && make -jX USE_UPNP=

where X is the # of cores to use, so -j4 would use 4 cores.

One thing I had to do for QT version was change your last line...  
Should be:

Otherwise during make it was still looking for miniupnp...  had to tell it to not use UPNP during qmake step,  not during make
I don't use UPNP but for others if you installed miniupnp it should be fine.

I have the same theory myself and have posted it quite a few times here, usually specific to the individual.  Without a doubt there are very serious issues.  Whether it is for monetary gain, because of genuine belief or herd mentality is of no matter.
