101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Are you running any masternodes? on: May 10, 2019, 11:51:06 AM
The best and easiest to run for me is ZEN.

Not a masternode, but a secure or supernode. For 42 Zen (bout 400 USD) you can get a secure node and get a third-party service to set it up for you.
102  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Binance talked about a "re-org" What is a re-org? how does that work with BTC? on: May 10, 2019, 11:33:05 AM
The fact that a centralized exchange CEO thinks that it is reasonable to potentially take action to ruin the reputation and integrity of our leading decentralized cryptocurrency that he has got rich off (but has nothing to do with) is pathetic.

If you successfully take actions to 'reverse' Bitcoin blocks it stops being Bitcoin - and becomes nothing.

An exchange just lets you swap coins. It is nothing and can be replaced by the more than 200 other exchanges out there. Binance needs to show humility and respect to cryptocurrencies that have given them so much.

Binance got robbed, and they need to cop it on the chin, improve their security, and stop looking for 'solutions' that  would destroy what makes cryptocurrency - cryptocurrency.

Once a transaction is made through the blockchain, its too late to get it back and thats the way it needs to be.
103  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance BTC Hack is due to 2FA on: May 10, 2019, 10:04:27 AM

It is the user who has to use the safe (i.e. securely storing api key / 2FA codes).
Binance can't force anyone to protect their password / 2FA code / etc..

But the issue wasn't that people were careless with their 2fa or passwords. The issue was that Binance had a security breach that circumvented these security checks.

I get that in crypto you are responsible for your own security - but in this case the problem wasn't the user, it was the 'trusted' and apparently 'safu' centralized exchange, who has such an inflated sense of self importance that they were considering risking the entire integrity of Bitcoin through a roll back.
104  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance BTC Hack is due to 2FA on: May 09, 2019, 11:08:36 AM
I doubt 3fa will make much difference in the longterm, just like 2fa didnt make a difference l.

My fiat bank doesn't require 3fa, so why is that the answer for a crypto exchange?

To use an analogy, instead of investing in 3 padlocks, it would be more secure to invest in a Safe. I feel like 3fa is just adding an extra layer of the same depth of security.

When Binance finishes their investigation, I doubt 3fa will be their recommended action for this hack.
105  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance lost $40.7 million to hackers, which exchange is next!!! on: May 09, 2019, 10:39:12 AM
This is heartbreaking.
I have a feeling that whoever is doing this is capable of hacking pretty much any cryptocurrency exchange.  They only hit any exchange when they feel like.
It's unfortunate enough money isn't put into the research o decentralized great exchanges

That is a major concern. For the sake of transparency Binance should detail exactly how this happened, so we can see if this is an issue that could exist for every exchange, or if this is a Binance specific security issue.

We'll probably get a 'nothing to see here, we fixed it' response. But we'll find out in a week.
106  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Why do some people hate Bitcoin and crypto and want it to fail? on: May 08, 2019, 11:55:35 AM
People hate bitcoin because they don't understand it, and think it is 'fake digital money'.

I remember reading similar stories when the internet first started. People and the media would ask why is it needed if everyone has a phone? Why send email when you can call or write a letter?

The opportunities of blockchain will probably only be fully appreciated after the fact when adoption, dapps etc are more widely used and more advanced.

You hit the nail on the head.  Generally people are afraid of what they dont understand.  Especially when we talk about "money", it could possibly alter the way people live and again that threatens people.  People dont like change.

Here it is. I found a clip I remembered from a while back that has an example of the media coverage I was referring to. From 1994 when the internet was just becoming a 'thing'. The guy is particularly confused about the @ sign.

Enjoy...
107  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bald men discrimination on: May 08, 2019, 08:57:53 AM
People discriminating or being disrespectful to people who are losing hair is a problem - because it takes attention away from ACTUAL problems.

In fact, male hairloss gets more funding than Malaria, which kills more than 400,000 people per year. Big pharma pours more money into this fake 'problem', because of all the insecurity and expectations in developed countries for men to have a full head of hair.

So if anyone criticises you for losing hair, it is totally fine to raise it, because this fake issue diverts substantial funding from actual health problems.
108  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Chinese mining motherboards suck! on: May 08, 2019, 08:20:21 AM
I always try to get 'name' motherboards like ASUS, even if it is just for mining in case I ever want to resell to a gamer down the track.

Probably not the best approach for professional setups where you are trying to cut costs, but I think quality helps in the long run, particularly as motherboards don't really need upgrades.
109  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Crypto-friendliest country in the world? on: May 08, 2019, 05:02:10 AM
I would say somewhere in Europe maybe Denmark or Switzerland? Total guess.

That was a total guess. As you can see from the other responses, places like estonia or cyrpus or singapore are more crypto friendly in terms of regulation and taxation arrangements.
110  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: I Turned My Rigs Off... on: May 08, 2019, 04:07:57 AM
Noooo!! Keep the dream alive keep mining! Do it as a hobby to support the network and stay involved!

I'm pretty much at breakeven point, but am still mining a few different projects to accumulate.
111  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: You need to update your google chrome browser on: May 07, 2019, 09:51:38 PM
My understanding is that most browsers update automatically. So if you're using Chrome presumably your system will get updates.

Otherwise try a different browser. Brave works pretty well for me.
112  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How many of you are GPU only miners? on: May 07, 2019, 09:28:56 PM
At your electricity prices most coins would still be slightly profitable. A lot of other people have much more expensive electricity.

With your 75 gpus, are you finding that your Nvidia or Amd is best value?

114  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is Double-spending issue? on: May 06, 2019, 02:03:12 AM
These attacks are more dangerous on smaller networks with less hashing power. Essentially, you have to "roll back" blocks when a double spend occurs.

It can happen on larger networks too. I read that Bitcoin  Cash has a mining body with about 40 percent of the network hashrate. That is just asking for trouble.

115  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: the Veil Project Mining- Privacy without Compromise on: May 05, 2019, 11:14:28 AM

I am also most interested in the success of the project Veil. Although I have few coins, it seems to me that this project will revolutionize the world of anonymous cryptocurrencies!

Ha I mean maybe but there are a lot of anonymous cryptocurrencies out there.

Have a look at veil for sure, but also checkout projects like Monero, Zcash, Horizen, Zcoin and all the other older privacy focused coins out there.
116  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Do you think Doctors lie? on: May 05, 2019, 08:58:03 AM
They can lie, and are somewhat supported to do so due to he incentive structures in place for healthcare systems. They can lie mostly due to greed, and it is permissible by the structures in place.

To highlight - most countries have a 'fee for service' model for healthcare.

What this means is that the more 'stuff' Doctors do to you (like surgery, appointments, health checks, prescriptions for drugs etc) the more money they can charge you (if its the USA) or the government/taxpayer (if its most other countries) for each of those treatments.

Therefore, the incentive structure allows for poor treatment, lying about the severity of conditions or to be overly cautious on running expensive additional tests. It does not promote efficiency or the prompt delivery of good health outcomes.

A Doctor that sees the same patient multiple times for something minor, trying new drugs or various questionable treatments and failing to fix the problem can and will charge for each of those visits/prescriptions/treatments. They will be financially rewarded for mediocrity and failure.

A Doctor that solves the problem immediately, knows the issue and saves you time and money will be financially penalised, as they won't get to charge you for all those extra 'things' that the mediocre Doctor tried.

The system does not reward health outcomes and efficiency. It rewards Doctor 'activity' to do things to you.

You can see how financial incentives could support (and even encourage) Doctors to lie about whether that extra blood test is really necessary, or the likelihood of a treatment working, or if it represents value for money.

Financially, a Doctor wants to keep you around for extra treatment. Ethically, well you would hope they have your best interests at heart, but in many countries Doctors are very well paid and you can imagine plenty of situations where their ethical code and financial incentives collide.

So in answer to your question, yes some doctors do lie - and they are financially rewarded to do so.
117  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Are we become lazy now? Where is our creative idea? on: May 05, 2019, 07:42:26 AM
Today you are newbie, but somedays you will be legendary and you have to lead next generation. Don't let your brain for sleep.

Lol this is just a forum and legendary is just a rank. It means nothing, and will not lead generations
There are many people around the world which knows a lot of Bitcoin and computers and don't have a legendary account here.

My guess is that most people heavily involved in crypto (like leading developers of altcoins in CMC top 100) do not have a legendary account, and have zero interest in one. Probably have an intern posting about their project and that's about it.

To each their own, but I feel if some people on this forum spent as much time learning about blockchain/crypto as they do on posting and getting the tag 'legendary' they'd actually learn alot more about blockchain, crypto and why it is important.

OP do what you like but don't think ranking up is going to make a huge difference in your ability to 'lead the next generation'.
118  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is Double-spending issue? on: May 05, 2019, 06:45:11 AM
The details provided above are a good explanation. I'm guessing you heard of 51% attacks mainly from exchanges losing money?

You'll notice that many exchanges require X number of confirmations before allowing a withdrawal. This is to help mitigate someone double spending or taking out large sums if there is a second chain being 'generated'.
119  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: the Veil Project Mining- Privacy without Compromise on: May 05, 2019, 04:49:33 AM

Still - When you notice a large portion of higher ranking users holding the banner - It does say something about the project.
Lots of support out there finding interest in Veil.

Could be true. Could also mean that the stakes provided to higher ranking members are over the top. You see hero/legendary accounts who have never received any merit with the veil signature posting about nothing. Not sure they would make me more interested in the project if I wasn't into it already!

I support and mine veil. Also the bounty managers for the campaign are very professional and seem to actually check for spam posts.

Cyprus is becoming a bit of a crypto start up hub for the European region: https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/325502

It is hard to say what country in the world is the most friendly to crypto, but each region seems to have at least a couple of countries pushing into that space with favourable legislation and regulations, such as Estonia, Singapore and Cyprus.
