101  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why you should NEVER buy Trezor one on: November 19, 2020, 04:24:50 PM
Had a Trezor for many years. It's never given me any trouble, updates just fine and I like their attitude far more than Ledger's. I'm wonder when a really enormous hole is found in how it operates but for now I'm happy with it.

I've always used a standard usb cable with it I had lying around. I did buy one with it, gawd knows what its fiat equivalent is now, but it's unopened.
102  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PayPal Reaches 85% of Binance.US Volume on: November 19, 2020, 04:08:16 PM
How high a bar is binance.us? Since you hardly ever hear about it not very is my guess. All the same this is definitely one to watch. It may be offensive to us but just what the doctor ordered for others.
103  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PayPals Bitcoin is a scam on: November 18, 2020, 03:05:18 AM
Paypal's implementation is exactly what I expected it to be from the first moment it was announced. I would've been amazed if they had accepted and sent out raw Bitcoin. That's a world more pain and work.

They have a Bitlicence which means the coins have to be real. That doesn't mean they're going to let anyone at them and the majority of their customers probably don't want it either.
104  Economy / Economics / Re: MicroStrategy Buys $250M in Bitcoin, Calling the Crypto ‘Superior to Cash’ on: November 18, 2020, 02:46:15 AM
And according to reports, MicroStrategy is up 50% in just three months:

No reason why they should not be up. It aligns with when they bought. I hope for the sake of others sucked in that it doesn't become a bubble in its own right. The largest numbers of companies doing this will be near the end of the bubble.

All that 'this is a prudent move vs the depreciating dollar' will collapse in a firestorm of screaming and recrimination. Just like regular people but with much larger figures.
105  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Huobi purchased Bithumb exchange on: November 17, 2020, 04:59:56 PM
So one untrustworthy exchange buys another. I wonder whether that adds up to a critical mass of dodginess or they somehow cancel each other out. I also wonder whether the Korean market will ever open up or it remains a whacky outpost where Bitcoin Gold has more volume than Bitcoin on occasion.
106  Economy / Speculation / Re: When do you think it will be a good moment to sell some of my bitcoin? on: November 17, 2020, 04:49:07 PM
Forget timing the market. Time yourself.

Set an amount in fiat that will fulfill all of your requirements along with the proportion of your BTC you're willing to give up to get it. When it reaches those figures then sell it regardless of what the market is looking like.

If you are in any way hesitant then you have clearly not settled on the amounts you're comfortable with.
107  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees on: November 16, 2020, 01:44:07 PM
We all wondered what would happen with 'competing implementations' and this is doing an admirable job of informing us. It continues squabbling and splintering until it's an absolute laughable irrelevance.

Cheers, guys.
108  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and Gold Cannot Coexist, Says MicroStrategy CEO on: November 14, 2020, 10:17:21 AM
Michael Saylor has gambled big on bitcoin using his personal money and his company's cash. He will say much of anything to hype bitcoin similar to maximalists.

Hey, he's excited. He's like a boy who's found out something like wall paper paste dribbles out of his winkle when he feels nice and wants to show the whole family, ideally at the Christmas dinner table.

We'll TRULY know when Bitcoin has arrived when you don't come across like a bit of a maniac when you get fully into it. Or maybe that day will never come.
109  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bitcoin payment for passport on: November 13, 2020, 11:51:50 PM
I guess it might be handy for a small number of people but as ever no one's going to buy something to buy something so it's only of use to Bitcoiners, and most of them will not want to part with it if they have an alternative.

I think I'd also wind up resenting the passport rather radically ten years down the line when the price is god knows where. At least if you buy some tat with Bitcoin you can burn it or swap it for drugs.
110  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have you received a call/text recently from a friend/fam asking about Bitcoin? on: November 13, 2020, 11:30:13 PM
Something to ponder is that the price is at this level and sticking around with no media hype and few mentions. Even people here aren't that stoked. When it was here in 2017 it had doubled in a week or two and was a few short days away from its monstrous pop shot that had been building for over a year and your dead grandmother was making Bitconnect videos.

That's a reflection of how much bigger the staircase upwards has become.
111  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: A Word of Advice about Paypal & Crypto on: November 13, 2020, 11:24:14 PM
Paypal is famous about blocking fiat accounts and that paranoia will be ten times higher with crypto.

You have crypto fun tokens. The paranoia will be the same. It's not as if you're going to be buying dark market heroin as the seller will be ever so slightly reluctant to use their Paypal account to do it.

It's going to have the same problems as a normal Paypal account. There won't be any new ones. And the existing ones are enough.

I'm curious to see if they ever do go proper crypto. Seems doubtful to me and most customers won't even ask about it.
112  Economy / Speculation / Re: The influx of organizations towards bitcoin on: November 13, 2020, 11:11:04 PM
The REAL test of all these macho pioneers is when it flies down the toilet again. Unlike us lot I would presume most of these people are emotionless machines who will dump brutally at strong signs of a bubble pop and buy back in a while down the line. They have no sentiment attached to this. At the same time there may be others who've been biding their time waiting to buy.

If big willies really are the driver of this bull run it's going to be interesting to see how differently it behaves, if it does.
113  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and Gold Cannot Coexist, Says MicroStrategy CEO on: November 13, 2020, 07:06:48 PM
"any time soon"---what's your timeline? Smiley

Ooh, that's a poser. Likely never? Gold will always have its irrevocable goldiness. It carries on being gold even if the entire Earth blows up. Bitcoin would struggle in that scenario unless it was on Mars by then.

Agreed about him becoming shrill at this point. He should wind it back and get on with being rich. He's at risk of crossing over and being someone that normaltons tune out automatically. His initial cred comes from being one of Them. He should be protecting that.
114  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and Gold Cannot Coexist, Says MicroStrategy CEO on: November 13, 2020, 10:31:19 AM
He has forgotten one wee things - governments. They're the real big beasts in goldland and in no way will they switch to Bitcoin any time soon even if it's harmful not to. Even if gold loses its appeal to the little people government interest will still keep things rolling.
115  Economy / Speculation / Re: MATHEMATICALLY Impossible for BITCOIN to "Come Back" - Why tell ppl lies? on: November 13, 2020, 10:12:58 AM
I wish I had your boredom. in it since 2013 and literally every bear cycle almost broke me in different angles. looking forward for the next opportunity to fuck up  Cheesy

I can create a program for you to turn you into a Bitcoin warrior monk. It basically involves me telling you how to feel. Simply send me a text message and I will reply with the emotion you should be feeling. The only thing you need to do to succeed is obey me completely. If you do this you will do very well, grasshopper.
116  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Wirex- Bitcoin Debit Card | Buy Bitcoin | Mobile Banking | Send Money on: November 13, 2020, 10:08:50 AM
I assume the new provider gives them many more things they can offer so I can't imagine it'll apply to the old card. They're certainly making some noise about it. I wonder whether they're going to undergo a bull run seizure like so many other places did in 2017.
117  Economy / Speculation / Re: MATHEMATICALLY Impossible for BITCOIN to "Come Back" - Why tell ppl lies? on: November 12, 2020, 11:13:01 PM
Price wise, Bitcoin was in a very scary place when this OP was written, so I'm not surprised at the sentiment.

All dependent on when you arrived. If you've been through one cycle before then you're fully immunised to proper panic, or at least I felt exactly zilch from 2017 onwards other than boredom.

If newcomers could upload the experience of complete boom and bust into their sweaty minds they would come out the next real one in a vastly better position. Either way post 2017 it was shit but the idea of it dwindling to nothing had become outlandish. Far less so in 2014/15.
118  Economy / Speculation / Re: MATHEMATICALLY Impossible for BITCOIN to "Come Back" - Why tell ppl lies? on: November 12, 2020, 08:58:20 PM
now that they are all gone I almost miss them. but I guess not even the hardest masochist can stand the constant flak in WO for long.

I do not miss them. By the time Stolfi is on his death bed I am certain at least 1-2 solid years of his life will have been spent screaming about Bitcoin. What a stunning waste.

In 2014/15 it was still possible to believe it could go nowhere so these people could make the back of your mind twitch, if you're weak. If they insist the same thing after that they are pissing in the wind as we say.
119  Economy / Speculation / Re: MATHEMATICALLY Impossible for BITCOIN to "Come Back" - Why tell ppl lies? on: November 12, 2020, 08:36:31 PM
I love these throwback accounts posting stuff that went out of fashion in 2015. Back then this place was crawling with them. After 2017 they really weren't trying very hard. Now they're wonderfully quaint. Fodder for newcomers to enjoy.
120  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC can reach $ 20000 after PayPal, Venmo accept payments in BTC, ETH? on: November 12, 2020, 07:13:08 PM
I don't have high hopes for any sort of blockchain transparency, but I'm hoping they'll at least publish their specific crypto holdings in their periodic financial statements. If they want to be opaque about it, they could probably just lump everything together in fiat terms under "intangible assets" and leave everyone guessing.

I'm sure it'll be fine. However the sad thing is that perhaps 0.00001% of Paypal's customers will actually ask to see if there's any way of verifying their holdings. The rest will mindlessly pile in.
