А что теперь будет с Crypti?

Why on earth would you use an unstable nodejs version?  That sounds scary.  Please stick to the stable release versions.

We mostly looking at it for yield (co-routines) support, which eliminates the "callback hell" in Node, thus greatly reducing the amount of code and the RAM usage.
I've participated recently in a commercial project based on 0.11, which proven to be quite a stable platform.

That said, it's not a final decision and we also looking at continuing using the current stable version.

For #1, I am not the only one met the scenario as you can see from the previous posts.

I DID remove the blockchain.db before I try to start the node again, but every time it stuck at the same block.
For me the other one met the issue, snapshot downloading is the only solution instead of just an approach to accelerating the sync process.

Thanks for the report, looking into this.
104  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Crypti | XCR | Ͼ | 3 PoS algorithms | Ed25519 | 2nd Gen Source on: October 12, 2014, 02:59:04 PM
For me, two problems:
1. It's rediculous that sync from network does not work, I must download the database separately
2. The memory consumption issue is not acceptable. You can't blame node-webkit, because for me it's run in a headless linux server, no node-webket is involved.
and we can see that the memory consumption grows along with block loading. So the only reason is the horrible memory manament of crypti.

1) The snapshot downloading is only done to speed-up the synchronization.
You can erase the file blockchain.db from your directory and restart Crypti Wallet, and it will retrieve the full blockchain from the other nodes from scratch.

It's quite similar to how today BTC blockchain is being distributed via torrents.

2) We are aware of this issue and will improve the RAM usage it in the next versions.

EDIT : did an uninstall / install but still crypti wallet doesn't seem to be happy enough to launch on my laptop.

Can please you browse to the C:\CryptiWallet, run the start-wallet.bat launcher, and PM me the results?

Fact is: nobody managed to forge a block without your servers.  Cry

You welcome to read the thread and see that plenty of people reported forging blocks on their own nodes.

So Crypti was never made a decentralized crypto  Angry
What a discovery!  Shocked
All this bs about everybody can forge with 1000 coins was lie? Because nobody can forge without this mysteruous "own nodes"?  Huh

Do you remember NXT network was down >4 days?  Tongue No, because maximum was 2. So your argument is irrelevant. Roll Eyes

You can always download Crypti nodes and run them yourself, however once Foundation nodes come back up, the blockchain consensus will take your fork to what the majority of nodes agrees. This is very similar to how NXT (or any other crypto for the matter) works as well.

As per downtime, while it's definitely bad and has to be resolved ASAP, it has no relation to the matter of discussion at hand. Code changes (including core) are a reality of any product, and I merely pointed out the fact that NXT, which you quite understandably champion, share same reality as well.

Totally agree. What I don't get is that you guys have over 750 BTC, which as you said you intend to use within one year, but you revert to a cheap freelance site for your designs, where you pay at max $ 250 for a bunch of horrible designs.

I know that GreXX is your creative designer, and he would have asked for more of a budget, but to the rest of the team, what does it take you to realise how much of an impact design actually makes.

I'm not sure this was answered, however 99 designs are not intended to be used a final design result. Think of this as a way to get quickly (and relatively cheaply) a brain-storming of hundreds of designers world-wide, which you can later use with your main designer.

From our experience on past (non-crypto) projects, this significantly cuts down on rounds with the designer.

Also, please rest assured that design is very important for us, and we going to release something of truly world-class quality. Part of my visit to Russia was to ensure we find a design partner that will be able to deliver our vision of how crypti should look like, and I belie we've found the right one.

The bottom line is I don't feel they are amateurs I feel they handle it ok. The one thing I can agree too is that I feel there should be more developers so we can speed up the coding process. For this to happend I feel like the Crypti team might have to take it down a notch (as in realizing there are many talented developers other than themselves) because what you need is manpower. I believe you set up mid october - late october for your short term goals right now that doesn't look too near if this isn't resolved soon and that will dissapoint even myself whom is a pretty calm investor but like I said new things take time and patience is often rewarded because it is a rare condition in these parts. /rant off

Thanks for the kind words.

After PoT re-implementation and Windows wallet final release, hiring is our top priority (together with custom block-chains). While the BTC rates are making this more challenging, we working on a solution to bring quality talent, that will stay with us with for an adequate amount of time to reach all the goals that we have planned.

But on the other hand changing code means:
if devs knew that the code was bad but used it - this "network" was only a demo (not beta, not alfa) and may be it must be restarted;  Roll Eyes
if devs discovered that code was bad only now - there is no guarantee that their new code will not be bad again, this is incompetence.  Angry

I'm actually certain that you, as NXT early adopter, is quite accustomed to a changing code Smiley :
https://bitbucket.org/JeanLucPicard/nxt/commits/all

Just look through the last 2 months commits and see how many NXT core changes you can spot (comments with "blocks", "peers", "rollback" and so on).

I dont think they are incompetent. I think that unexpected issues came so they have decided to change a few things.
I read a book once The Lean startup. Its pretty good book IMO and it shows you how every succesful company had to restructure their system, product, service,.... many times to get perfect results. They failed and lost lots of time to get it right but at the end it was worth it! Its definetly not incompetence its just when something is launched then you see much more that when you are planning.

Awesome book - I also advise reading "Running Lean".

Crypti actually quite tries to follow the lean methodology, and if you treat the released versions as a MVP in progress, things will start to become more clear Smiley. Actually, a lot of other alts (Nxt included) follow same path.

Okay thanks for clearing all that up SyRenity. We appreciate it, though in the future, please try to maintain better communication with the community in periods such as this.

Noted, and while we still prefer Grexx as our community lead to give day-to-day updates, me and Boris will be more active in case of such sensitive situations.
113  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Crypti | XCR | Ͼ | 3 PoS algorithms | Ed25519 | 2nd Gen Source on: September 28, 2014, 08:09:12 PM
Also Crypti team gathered 650BTC or more so I suppose they can hire another specialist to help them solve the problem with network...
If this situation will continue people will start to sell what they have on exchanges.

750 BTC, and we are putting these funds to a good use, setting up a dedicated out-staffed R&D team, which will be lead by Boris.
That said arranging it takes time and abroad travel, which was currently delayed exactly because of the PoT issue being worked on.
114  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Crypti | XCR | Ͼ | 3 PoS algorithms | Ed25519 | 2nd Gen Source on: September 28, 2014, 08:06:16 PM
Yeah we all know it but when we have no possibility of any transactions/forging since few days there can be two scenarios: Devs dont know exactly how to fix it or problem is so huge that they are trying new approach of some technical issues. Anyway it seems to be huge problem. Another thing is if they cant estimate when problem will be solved then my theory becomes more real. If I am wrong devs please correct me.

Due to change being complex, we are deliberately not giving delivery dates, as we must ensure it's absolutely bug free.
We are doing our best to have it resolved and deployed within the next few days.
115  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Crypti | XCR | Ͼ | 3 PoS algorithms | Ed25519 | 2nd Gen Source on: September 28, 2014, 08:04:30 PM
Was it stopped Intentionally? How can you stop a decentralized network Intentionally? is it decentralized?

Foundation own nodes where stopped, which form for the moment the majority of Crypti network.
Naturally people running their own nodes are not affected by that, however the main services (exchanges, etc...) are working with Crypti nodes.

Once we get the Windows version out, we certainly looking for a change of this situation, where Foundation nodes are the minority.

Does this now mean that the network will remain down for however long this takes, possibly weeks?

We are working to restore it to fully functional order as soon as possible, with the target to have it up and running within days.
117  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Crypti | XCR | Ͼ | 3 PoS algorithms | Ed25519 | 2nd Gen Source on: September 28, 2014, 07:53:55 PM
Exactly, I don't see how the devs could have just stopped a live network to test new code. I don't even know why they are testing new code on a live network, but anyway...

All we've heard is that the devs are testing a new implementation of the PoT algorithm, but how that causes it to stop a live network, I have no clue whatsoever.

All new versions testing is  naturally performed on testnet (http://testnet.crypti.me/).
The mainnet was stopped to avoid forks, as I explained in detail above.

Status update

First of all, I'd like to apologize for us not providing ongoing updates regarding the forging nodes being paused.
This was done as an emergency measure to avoid possible forks with the PoT stability issues that we have discovered, while we are working on a proper solution for them. The intended pause period was expected to be a day at most, however unfortunately re-working the PoT took much more time than planned, thus causing the extended delay.

Thanks the Foundation members who did their best communicating this to the community, while us being focused on the PoT.

The good news is that we done with the Pot re-implementation, and now running private tests before we deploy to testnet for Foundation and IRC members to give it a try. Provided it passes them, we will release the new 0.1.7 version (both Linux and Windows) to the wide circulation.

Windows node / wallet update

A pre-release version has been released both to Foundation members and to our loyal IRC followers Smiley. Provided no further issues are reported, we will release the Windows node / wallet to public during the upcoming weekend.

Crypti faucet is launched!

We are excited to make the Crypti faucet publicly available, enabling everyone to claim a free XCR once per day:
