101  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can a seed phrase on steel or titanium sheet survive this flood? on: April 28, 2024, 02:10:08 PM
Yes actually the biggest danger of floods is not oxidation/corrosion as some people seem to think, but to carry away your steel wallet instead. That's why it's also important to strongly attach it to the ground or to a solid wall at least, especially if you don't keep it at a high place. But the most safe option is to put several backups in different locations far from each other.
102  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why you should only hold Bitcoin on: April 28, 2024, 01:46:48 PM
Many forum members are responding to this thread sharing that as Bitcoin is already so large in market capitalisation, they are more likely to get a 100x or higher return by "investing" into altcoins, which is why they are "holding" it in their portfolio. I have a few challenges to this argument.

The first is that, you are not actually "investing". You are simply speculating that the price of an altcoin in its fiat value will increase so you can sell it. This is not investing, this is gambling, trading, or speculating. The second is, you are not actually "holding" it when you say you are. You are intending to sell it for profit, not hold onto it indefinitely. My topic of discussion here is that Bitcoin is the only coin you should legitimately hold indefinitely. There is no intention to sell it at any fiat price conversion.
I don't understand the point of buying an asset for holding it indefinitely. Why you would need that? And who would need that? People need money to buy goods and services, they don't need assets they will never touch, neither use during their lifetime. If they need something they won't touch, it would be more relevant to invest in paintings or housing for example. At least they could use it for something. In addition Bitcoin is less safe than physical assets, because it can be hacked, or you can lose it, if you lose your seed.
103  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why you should only hold Bitcoin on: April 27, 2024, 09:55:19 PM
If "you do not want to hold something which others are primarily speculating on" I don't understand why you're holding Bitcoin because it's actually a highly speculated asset and its current price has nothing to do with its current use and value. You are also wrong when you say it's used for its original intention ie a storage of wealth that is not impacted by inflation. Bitcoin hasn't been designed for that purpose actually, it's just a maximalist narrative trying to find it a new plausible use case. But Satoshi Nakomoto initially designed it for just being a Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System, not a store of wealth.
Unfortunately it's currently no longer able to manage to fulfill its mission, as its transaction fees are too expensive and its speed is too slow.
Quote
Abstract. A purely peer-to-peer version of electronic cash would allow online payments to be sent directly from one party to another without going through a financial institution.
104  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: SEC vs Consensys on: April 27, 2024, 09:43:37 PM
To be honest I don't understand their point with Ethereum and what they are expected precisely with such strategy. As far as I know, Metamask doesn't only deal with Ethereum, it deals with hundreds, even thousands other coins. So no matter if Ethereum is a security or not at the end. Besides that they've added several features to the app not relying to the initial goal of Metamask. Now you can swap your coins on Metamask and even buy or sell cryptos against fiat currencies. I think it's what SEC blames for actually.
105  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2024-04-26] Swiss National Bank Chief Raises Concerns About Adding Bitcoin ... on: April 27, 2024, 09:27:18 PM
If they really rejected this idea because of carbon emissions produced by mining and energy consumption, it's sad, because this kind of decision could really be an important reassuring signal for investors and regulators. Unfortunately Bitcoin community especially devs and miners doesn't seem to be ready to consider another system of blockchain/ledger validation like Ethereum managed to do.
106  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2024-04-15] Another cryptocurrency suicide on: April 27, 2024, 08:55:42 PM
it's sad that none turkish language media has report the news. Because it's important to repeat that investing in high volatile assets such as cryptocurrencies is not safe. You can quickly get higher losses than with traditional assets. People should be reminded to stay cautious and to only invest what they can afford to lose or what they would be ready to gamble.
107  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Samourai Wallet seized by the feds on: April 27, 2024, 07:46:51 PM
Nothing. Samourai is a non-custodial wallet.
Yes but it's a software, so if you download a malicious update made by someone who eventually took control of the project now leaders of the team have been arrested, it could create a transaction and send your funds elsewhere or steal your seed. So IMO it's better to import your seed or private keys into another wallet as soon as possible, and to not download any upgrade before.
108  Other / Meta / Re: Post per day/ per month falling. on: April 27, 2024, 07:28:18 PM
Posts per day and Posts per month is a fairly simple metric to observe or attempt to correlate with the progress and success of the forum.

The best assessment of the forum, is the number of high quality posts made per day and per month. This could be measured based on statistics such as "posts per day with minimum 200 characters", or "posts per day that received merit" or "new user registrations" even. I think digging deeper into the analysis with more specific metrics will provide the outcome you are seeking..
You say the best assessment is the number of high quality posts and then you name new user registrations as a relevant metric, you're wrong bots or spammers can create multiple accounts just for spamming, so it's not a good metric to assess the overall quality of posts. Neither the number of characters. We see many users belonging to some signature campaigns, posting very long low value posts. They never receive any merit and some of them are even tagged as spammers by some DT members, so it's not so easy.
109  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Lost Data on: April 27, 2024, 07:17:58 PM
Which wallet did he use? Electrum, Bitcoin Core, Exodus, another one? If things happened in the way you say, it's concerning. Because if I understand correctly, he just made a format by mistake. It means missing files have been formatted, so if he's unable to retrieve them, they are very likely to have been formatted, and not just deleted or sent to the trashcan.
110  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Beyond Wagering on: April 26, 2024, 09:59:03 PM
Definitely, watching or listening from the radio more matches, races and other events. Or at least reading news about it, when you bet it's something you can hardly restrain yourself from doing because it interests you and because you think you can do something from those informations in order to place a better valued bet. In addition it's exciting to follow an event when you have bet on it or at least to learn how the event took place.
111  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Stake Casino Scam Locking 45k$ Balance on: April 26, 2024, 08:48:25 PM
I don't understand why they needed such confidential documents about your identity and your revenues if they just wanted to close your account. If they were investigating something about you and how you've placed this bet why not asking any question about that?
I wonder if any other bookie, especially fiat and licensed ones has seized customer funds for that bet.
112  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Has Anyone Used This Crypto Recovery Service? on: April 26, 2024, 07:52:59 PM
Yes you're right I thought they were talking about an unknown Blockchain.com service. Because hackers would use this platform to hold "their" funds. But it's just some garbage talk in order to get more money IMO. They are certainly using this word with a capital letter in order to confuse people when they try to make researches about it or when they try to ask some questions about it I guess.
113  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Your favourite exchange can be nowhere to be found on: April 26, 2024, 07:40:58 PM
Unfortunately, there are many more than those platforms that are closing their doors. It's just the ones exposed by medias because they were large enough, but many others have closed without making any noise while scamming many of their customers by not letting them withdrawing their remaining assets or not sending them despite official announcements saying the opposite.
114  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: After the dip in crypto, when are we expecting ath? on: April 26, 2024, 07:30:44 PM
When did you buy your Bitcoins? At the ATH? It's a golden rule in trading, you should never buy an asset at his ATH, if you are not ready to lose your investment. Because chances to drop down are at the highest level. Actually best traders and smart money are doing the opposite, they try to buy interesting stocks/assets at their lowest price(aka bottom) and then to sell them at the highest price(aka top).

117  Local / Échanges / Re: Avis BINANCE on: April 24, 2024, 09:49:58 PM
