By the time i got back from work i was so tired i just got some. Obviously didn't pay full wack for them, i did save some. But i didnt pay as low as you suggested because i never would have got any xD

Ah craps...  Undecided
I got some more XMR at 0.0043 overnight (at Bittrex), so, you could have certainly bought some at the range I mentioned. You could even buy some now at that price on Polo. No trading while sleepy/tired, you'll be missing a key trading quality: patience...

On the positive side: I'm confident you'll see gains from that purchase, if not any obscene figures. With XMR, I'm betting things will evolve slow and steady, so I'd expect just small spikes and dips along the way. Anyways, I'm just pulling guesses out of my ass now. Good luck mate!

I invested in some XMR, BBR, and VTC yesterday, paid way too much by the looks of the lowering price, lost about 0.01btc over night in value

Did you not follow my "advice" from the other day, or following my advice is what got you into the red zone?  Roll Eyes
For XMR I'd have my buy's set around 0.0046~0.0049.

(In any case, now grow some balls and hold, hold god damn it  Grin)

I'd go with some investment in XMR and BBR. For XMR I'd have my buy's set around 0.0046~0.0049. For BBR I'm not familiar enough with the trading activity and mining costs to make any sort of call on value though. These would not be investments for day-trading, though I suppose some will get away with that also (I did boost my XMR holdings by 20% or so by day-trading some these past few days).

For all the other alts, X11, X13, scrypt and what not, I'd say I've personally lost faith. I see most having very little to offer beyond the rather common pump & dump. I'll be happy to sell most BTC that I have when it approaches 700USD, and buy back when it's down to 500USD, so as a trading investment, I'd say Euro (and to less extent USD) are also good opportunities.

Warning: I've been known to be (very) wrong, plenty times!

Of course open source is much better, but what we got here is Christian's source instead. C&c are the only developers of ccminer, if it was a community effort, it was a different story. But as long as he got better code that he keeps for himself, what btw he's totally entitled to do and I have nothing against it,  its not really the open source community you're talking about.

You do know that before CCMiner, we've had Cudaminer, and that it was another contributor that helped bump everyone's hashrates on Scrypt (and Scrypt-Jane IIRC). Bigjme's examples are also quite on the mark for community contributions. An open source effort is inclusive and attracts more contributors, period. Christian's source also carries over code from other projects, or at least it did as it started out (cpuminer...).

Do you see the pattern? When you open source your project, you're not only giving something away to others. You're also inviting them into the rabbit hole. Much better.  Wink

1006  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] cudaMiner & ccMiner CUDA based mining applications [Windows/Linux/MacOSX] on: June 17, 2014, 10:51:52 AM
Most people don't seem to grasp the importance of 'open source' to this economy. Open source attracts a lot more people to any project, it creates an inclusive community (as opposed to an exclusionary one), and establishes long term growth. Would Bitcoin have ever been worth *anything* if most of it's mining remained concentrated on a couple of 'closed source' projects?

Note: I've nothing against closed source, and certainly nothing against Christian making huge profits  Grin , but I remain confident that Christian and the community at large, will continue to drive cuda mining forward in an open fashion.

To the earlier poster that asked about XMR/BBR mining profitability: I should have added that I'm still mining XMR myself, even if it would barely pay for the electricity. I have strong convictions to XMR's long term value, so I'll continue to mine & hold.

How profitable is to mine monero and bbr? Will it cover servers expenses?

Generally speaking, it's not profitable, if you're paying "average" price for server renting and have the regular miners that are floating about. It takes scale of numbers (and/or cheap AWS spot instances), and further optimized miners to really make profit. I mined a few Monero early on, so those would turn out a decent profit if I sold today (though I'll be holding anyways). With the current diff, it barely pays for the electricity.

Hey, is there any way for the wallet to spit out its previous balance automatically before refreshing if it hasn't been refreshed in a while? Sometimes I go for a few weeks before opening a particular wallet .. and have a few of them with different balances. Any way to have it kick out the last balance and then refresh automatically like usual so I know I'm refreshing the right wallet?

'balance'
'refresh'

I think this is what you're asking for...

You likely need to lower your OC's a tiny bit. As the new version makes more aggressive use of the GPU resources, it will consume a little more electricity, heat up a little more, 'crash' a little more. See if an overclock reduction get's that error to go away and let us know.

[...]
It's a tactical decision to hold. And it's unwise to do that during a downward trend.
[...]

Absolutely! The critical point I was making, is making sure that your tactical decisions take into consideration your own weight into that "downward trend".  Grin If you alone (or your group mining operation) can drive the price down, you are the trendsetter!  (just stop sending it down   Roll Eyes)

Edit: Opinions are like a$$holes, everybody's gone one! I just want to add that I've been known to be wrong (many times), so not trying to push my own judgement here. I'm just thinking that this group of green machines should figure out ways to cooperate to everyone's benefit, instead of stepping into one another's toes.

Is it still unwise to hold Christian?  Wink Once monero settles exchange value again, you'd be better off having a large stash and releasing the miner into the wild! Sustained increase in nethash -> Higher value (post short-term dumping). I'd say that monero is not at all the typical alt. As I mentioned earlier, I'm keeping every XMR that I can mine, and will continue to hold for at least a good few months, at which time I might part ways with just a small'ish portion of my holdings.

Awesome recent updates with CCMiner btw, you rock!!!

How can I mine same time on CPU and GPUs?

I'd suggest you run the CPU mining with -t 3, to use just 3 cores, leaving one free for GPU miner duties (relevant if that CPU coin miner is already optimized for AES-NI). In any case, you can play with the number of threads for CPU mining all the way up to 7, just not the default (which uses all 8 threads).

I usually go into the task manager details and set the affinity of the GPU miner to be on my 1st core/thread (or the 1st two), and set the affinity of the CPU miner to the other ones, thus isolating one from the other.

(if you're not using windows, please ignore  Cool)

My compiles were made in VS2010 too Wink I knew there would be compatability errors if I used 2012 Tongue

I think it is the ones from the cryptomining-blog (and possibly the x13 from tsiv) that were built with 2012. I have all VS redistributable versions installed anyways, so I never know which one is required  Cheesy

I downloaded christians release. But i gave installed 2010 and 2012 Visual Studio just to make sure but im still getting the error Sad

And you have double-checked that you're running a matched x86 or x64 version of the Visual Studio redistributable? In case I wasn't clear: if you run official cudaminer x86, you need the VS redist x86, for cudaminer x64, you need the VS redist x64...

Depending on who built that ccminer/cudaminer release, you might need instead the Visual Studio 2012 redistributable (Christian's releases I think would always just need the 2010 version 'cos that's what he builds with).

I would argue that my 2 XMR bid was altruistic compared to your 250 XMR bid...I'm like a modern-day Ghandi, but with more curves (of the ECDSA kind, of course)  Grin

Meh... Altruistic in that you were essentially sponsoring a "pizza giveaway", but really, my wallet mind was set on the initiative standing for a "monero giveaway".  Embarrassed
I'll be happy to pay you a pizza just for the entertainment that I get here, but I confess that I'd be happiest if the pizza auction had earned me the winning ticket to the 'let's spread some monero around' initiative!  Wink

On to more important matters: I hear there's an (open source) GUI wallet coming soon?

It's more like outdated pool software, is it not?
I recall a fix from earlier on, that addressed this precise issue.

Oooh, first post. Exciting. It's a "look what I made!" post.

That's an awesome 1st post right there  Wink
Welcome aboard! What really get's me smiling is to know that there is +1 contributor to this project.
Christian does great work, but does not look like there are many coding contributions from others (other than the group previously known as CC hash factory). I'd love to participate, but have not had a chance yet to start learning myself some cuda (or any coding for that matter  Embarrassed).
With a larger development community, we're bound to greater mining achievements! (and greater profits?  Grin)

Me and AizenSou exchanged some settings a few pages back. Shouldn't be too hard to locate if you search my post history.
If these are not helpful, let us know what exactly you're looking for (what card & what's the nfactor), so someone else might have the settings for you.
