1021  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: March 29, 2014, 01:00:30 AM
The thing I really got from all these discussions is that Bitcoin is controlled by 12 miners. This is scary and is opposite to the decentralized nature.
I guess when big money comes in greed overrules everything and power grab happens.
If that's what you got from it, then you're either assuming that a majority of people would do things differently (unlikely), or that Bitcoin being controlled by 12 developers is somehow better (no thanks)...

Great news! Pay-to-PubKeyHash Functionality Added
https://www.counterparty.co/pay-to-pubkeyhash-functionality-added/
Great news! Filter added to block this crap in less than 5 minutes, and 1 line of code.

Great instead of developers responsibly engaged towards finding a solution - you're promoting cat and mouse.
I already proposed a clear, well-defined solution.
It appears the Counterparty developers are only interested in abusing Bitcoin, though, rather than solving the problems.

It appears as if a double spend attack is not entirely undesirable.
You're supposed to clone the toppings before they get on the pizza.
1025  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core 0.8.7 backport, release candidate 1 on: March 26, 2014, 08:53:01 AM
warren has provided a Mac OS X build (see main post for download link)
1026  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Forum now hosting the Bitcoin Wiki on: March 25, 2014, 07:27:47 PM
Someone should seriously revert all this Chinese stuff someone did recently though.
This seems to be a server issue... the actual wiki content is correct.
But yes, I agree fixing it should be a priority.
Unfortunately, nobody working on the server has been able to reproduce it yet, so someone here experiencing the issue may need to stop by #bitcoin-wiki (freenode IRC) to help troubleshoot...
1027  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Core 0.8.7 backport, release candidate 1 on: March 25, 2014, 07:28:17 AM
Bitcoin Core version 0.8.7 release candidate 1 (sigs) is now available for download:
This is a maintenance release to fix bugs only.
Users should upgrade to 0.9.0 if possible, and only use 0.8.7 if they encounter trouble with that.
Due to lack of testing, backport stable versions are unlikely to ever reach a final release.

Please report bugs by replying to this forum thread.

How to Upgrade

If you are running an older version, shut it down. Wait until it has completely shut down (which might take a few minutes for older versions), uninstall all earlier versions of Bitcoin, then run the installer (on Windows) or just copy over /Applications/Bitcoin-Qt (on Mac) or bitcoind/bitcoin-qt (on Linux).

If you are upgrading from version older than 0.8, the first time you run 0.8.7, your blockchain files will be re-indexed, which will take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours, depending on the speed of your machine.

Transaction malleability-related fixes

This release contains a few fixes for transaction ID (TXID) malleability issues:

  • -nospendzeroconfchange command-line option, to avoid spending zero-confirmation change
  • IsStandard() transaction rules tightened to prevent relaying and mining of mutated transactions
  • Additional information in listtransactions/gettransaction output to report wallet transactions that conflict with each other because they spend the same outputs.
  • Bug fixes to the getbalance/listaccounts RPC commands, which would report incorrect balances for double-spent (or mutated) transactions.

0.8.7 Release notes

Wallet:

  • Bug fixes to correctly compute the balance of wallets containing double-spent (or mutated) transactions
  • Don't create empty transactions when reading a corrupted wallet
  • Only create signatures with low S values

GUI:

  • Fix richtext detection hang issue on very old Qt versions

RPC:

  • New notion of 'conflicted' transactions, reported as confirmations: -1
  • Reject insanely high fees by default in 'sendrawtransaction'
  • Explicitly ensure that wallet is unlocked in `importprivkey`
  • Add check for valid keys in `importprivkey`

Command-line options:

  • New option: -nospendzeroconfchange to never spend unconfirmed change outputs

Block-chain handling and storage:

  • Add a new checkpoint at block 279,000

Protocol and network:

  • Added new DNS seed from bitcoinstats.com

Warning

There have been frequent reports of users running out of virtual memory on 32-bit systems during the initial sync. Hence it is recommended to use a 64-bit executable if possible. A 64-bit executable for Windows is available for 0.9.

1028  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Forum now hosting the Bitcoin Wiki on: March 25, 2014, 02:29:27 AM
Edit: I'm also wondering if there's any point in bothering, given all these comments about a Luke Jr guy editing out comments he doesn't like.
Ignore the trolls. I only edit out false claims and vandalism.
As long as you stick to facts and opinions, and don't try to censor other facts or opinions, your edits are welcome Smiley
But the 0.001 BTC thing is just antispam. Post your username and someone can whitelist you directly.

Luke when can we expect an offical support for the gridseed chip?
When nwoolls has time to finish it. I believe it's planned for 4.0

Looks fine for me, maybe a temporary glitch?

NEW VERSION 3.0.0, APRIL 5 2013
[..]
  • Android target support. You will have to compile it yourself, but it should just work - no patching needed.

Is there any version compiled for Android, can not find any info about it?
I'm curious if I could mine with Bi•Fury with such setup, say Rk3066 dongle?
EasyMiner is in the Google Play thing.
Yeah sow this one but it requires patched Nexus 7 kernel... so only for this device I guess?
I guess regular android kernel is not enough for miner to "see/communicate" with Bi•Fury device...?
Anyway thanks for reply Luke and for your great miner Smiley
My understanding is that the patched kernel is only needed to enable OTG and charging at the same time.

You can't get bounced out of the queue unless you change your payout threshold. It's just a visual issue with the stats. I'd give it 15 minutes or so after finding a block to make sure that everything is caught up and you should be able to see yourself still in the queue.
Actually, you can. You enter the queue based on your estimated earnings for the current round.
If your estimate drops, you can fall below the point where you need to be to get in.

could someone write up what the big deal is exactly?  having a hard time reading through 50 pages of stuff.

is Luke Jr trying to deprecate multisig transactions now?
No, I'm trying to help Counterparty behave like a good Bitcoin citizen.
Ignore the trolls' misrepresentations of me.

I am confused about multisig and its future.
Is bitcoin really going to make the (currently limited) 3 signer multisig non-standard?
Wouldnt that effectively make multisig unusable?
Bare multisig is already unusable. Filtering out abuses would be possible without filtering all bare multisig anyway.
P2SH multisig (which actually has potential use) will continue to work in any case.
1039  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [6600Th] Eligius: 0% Fee BTC, 105% PPS NMC, No registration, CPPSRB (New Thread) on: March 23, 2014, 08:13:46 PM
You are still not defining what you perceive as a problem. I have users mining with 50TH off one instance of cgminer
Try testing with a generation transaction of 100+ kB size.
Edit: Also, I would expect it to not affect high-end hosts. Probably just embedded and crappy miner-only hosts.
The host WAS mining on this pool with the 50TH without a problem

As for "crappy" miner only hosts, cointerra devices use "crappy" beaglebone boards and mine on this pool with 1.6TH per instance at 3% CPU usage.

So how big is the current generation transaction?
As I said, we had to workaround this problem.
So the Eligius coinbases today will never get big enough to trigger it.
1040  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: March 23, 2014, 07:53:32 PM
FWIW, if there are any developers interested in keeping Counterparty going once multisig abuse filters are in place, there is no reason the recommended plan cannot work with a fork of Counterparty instead of the original developers.

This is quite horrifying. Correct me if I'm wrong, Luke. But it sounds like you'd be quite happy to see the death of Counterparty at this point. Are the lines of communication now closed between yourself and the Counterparty developers? Is there even a part of you that sees value in what we're trying to achieve here?
A Counterparty dev has closed lines of communication.

Even if Counterparty dies, the Freimarket folks will be providing a replacement (if not an upgrade).
I also hold no Counterparty assets myself.
So no, I see no value to Counterparty specifically, just the functionality - which is already being worked on independently.
It's the Counterparty users who will lose out, unfortunately, unless someone steps up to move it forward.
