1021  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Getting Women Naked *and* Empowered through Bitcoin on: April 02, 2012, 11:59:43 PM
I think you might be better off creating two distinct sites/subreddits; one focusing on appreciation of the female form and one "by the women, for the women". Profits and endorsements from one can be used to support the other.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm sure the two aren't mutually exclusive, but "sexy" educational videos will probably draw a large male audience who might not all be as likely to visit and participate in the rest of the philosophy.
1022  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Bitcoin is an experiment,... on: April 02, 2012, 04:13:39 PM

If space travel becomes possible, bitcoin will likely become obsolete. The protocol assumes that every node has a latency of less than 10 minutes (2 minutes if TCP is used). This can be violated on Earth as well if your Internet is cut off by the govenrment (or your ISP) and data must be smuggled out on foot. For the largest "island" of processing power, this is not a big problem. However, smaller islands of processing power face having their blockchain history re-written by malicous entites on the larger processing island.

Not at all.. There will just be realms of crypto-currencies: here on earth and there out there. And exchanges for entities to trade between, perhaps facilitated with Open Transactions and RipplePay technologies.

I did my own thought experiement on this a few weeks ago. I envision MarsCoin, VenusCoin, JupiterCoin, KuiperCoin, etc, all traded at varying rates on a solar system wide crypto-currency exchange.

Yes they shipped, I'm not sure how often USPS internation tracking updates, i know its pretty poor. Let me try and track psy's package and see what it says.

<edit> I just tried to track psy's and it says the same thing. If it doesn't update today I'll go back to the post office and start raising hell.

USPS usually just tracks when the package arrives at the destination post office with no info prior to that, https://tools.usps.com/go/TrackConfirmAction_input
1024  Bitcoin / Press / Re: Bitcoin press hits, notable sources on: April 02, 2012, 03:05:02 PM
This puzzled 'international ECommerce specialist' still hasn't understood that the utter non-reliance of bitcoin upon it's founding coder is a strength.

... considering that the ‘alternative’ currency is anonymous, decentralized and virtually nothing is known about the coder that originally created the system – and who now seems to have disappeared…..one has to wonder why it continues to get so much press?

That's pretty humorous. Do we need to know anything about Leibniz or Newton to use calculus?
1025  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best way to Accept BTC via Wordpress Store? on: April 02, 2012, 02:40:07 PM
I guess the part that is the biggest hurdle for me, is how difficult the code would be that 1, generates a address to send to the customer, and two checks back every 5-10 minutes until it sees that address contain a balance that matches the request.  Then upon 'seeing' the balance validate with say (5 checks) it notifies me via email?  Or a dashboard screen?

I believe those details can be handled by another party like bitcoinnotify.

If I know what address has been associated with an order, I don't mind generating the addresses and checking blockexplorer.

linking the order number with the rest of the order details in another table.

This is the part that's giving me difficulty.
1028  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best way to Accept BTC via Wordpress Store? on: April 02, 2012, 02:10:46 AM
No, the tricky part is associating the right bitcoin address with the right order in a human readable and manageable interface. So far I haven't found a plugin that does it even though it seems simple enough on the surface:

  • Customer A places an order.
  • Plugin pulls unique BTC address from database and presents it upon checkout.
  • Customer A sends bitcoins.
  • Plugin enters that address into a field along with name, email, shipping address, etc.
  • You watch the blockchain or your wallet for the payment and send the goods once payment has been received.

Wow, this turned out to be way beyond me. Is it really that difficult to pull a bitcoin address from a database and associate it with a specific order?

1031  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I went to Meze Grill today and paid with VISA on: April 01, 2012, 10:13:34 PM
Bitcoin has a long hard road to travel before it's accepted and used on a regular basis by your typical restaurant. As Phinnaeus mentioned, small business owners are accustomed to taking risks, but they are known risks. What's new and exciting about bitcoin to us is strange and confusing to the average restaurant owner/manager.

However, did you notice I used the phrases, "typical restaurant" and "average owner/manager"?

I am sure there is someone out there starting up their first diner, bar and grill, hot dog stand, or whatever, who will be just as starstruck as many of us are once he or she learns about bitcoins. We just need to persevere and reward them with our patronage once we hear about them. As Stephen said, we gotta start somewhere.

Please welcome our newest contestant, legolouman!

Only two slots left to fill before the games begin.

She is a smart cookie.. I'd bet money she's off working on some secret squirrel project to take advantage of this latest development.

I noticed some traffic coming from your mention of the site on Reddit so, thanks for that, Tuxavant.

On a completely unrelated note, I also noticed someone found SatoshiSuperstars.com by searching "matthew n wright bitcoin".  Cheesy

Things have finally settled down, somewhat, at "Casa de edd" and I'm now fully committed to getting this thing going.

I been contacted by at least four forum members who have yet to follow through with the application process. I'll be emailing or messaging them one more reminder and then will begin a slightly more aggressive campaign to fill the last three spots. If, after a few days, I am unable to fill those spots, the contest will begin as-is and the process will be adjusted as necessary to accommodate the reduced number of contestants.

Current contestants:

1. Tuxavant
2. squidroe
3. LoupGaroux
4. Phinnaeus Gage
5. The Founder
6. chris200x9
7. cablepair
8. Matthew N. Wright
9. Rassah
10. Open
11. Open
12. Open

if this is really only resting and not dead, depending on whats required, i maybe convinced.

Contact me via a PM here or via the Contact Page at SatoshiSuperstars.com. I will then ask you to email me your bitcoin address for the prize should you win, a  short biography, a profile pic, and an agreement to the contest terms and conditions.

I hate when that happens.
1037  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What happens if I find a block in a pool? on: March 27, 2012, 10:13:52 PM
If I find a block solo I get 50 BTC if I'm in a pool do I still get 50 - fees?
If you are mining solo, you receive 50BTC + Txn fees for the block.
If you are mining in a pool, the pool divides up the 50BTC among the miners at the pool. (In one of many ways which pays more to the workers who did more hashing.)
If you mine in a pool, and find a block, you have no way to claim all 50+BTC for yourself. It is always divided among the miners in some even fashion.

Miners "pool" the work and divvy up the rewards based on the amount of work contributed.
1038  Economy / Services / Re: GLBSE2.0 has launched! on: March 27, 2012, 02:06:46 AM
Okay, I see my bitcoin balance now and the shares I've purchased in someone else's stock, but I don't see any of my own shares in UBTC even though I do have (very limited) access to the administrative panel for it.
1039  Economy / Services / Re: GLBSE2.0 has launched! on: March 27, 2012, 01:42:41 AM
Getting an internal server error when I try to claim my old account.
1040  Other / Politics & Society / Re: People wonder why I don't take their advice. on: March 25, 2012, 08:52:02 PM
The divorce rate has never been higher. Single-female parenthood is at an all-time high as well.

You know good people who know how to get along in the world, edd. From the groups I've visited and people I met, a good portion of first-world society is having it really rough.

The reasons -- I'll discuss at a better time. It seems my original post insulted half the forum, heh.

I'm not saying the people I know are all successful, happy, and in fulfilling relationships. You just posted a list of some very specific characteristics and I was pointing out that it does not apply, as a whole (or even a significant portion of it), to anyone I know.
