I think so - but it take money and steady nerves.

I only mine for fun and the 4 or 5 coins/day is a bonus.
1042  Economy / Securities / Re: [ANNOUNCE GLBSE] Pirate Pass Through Bonds on: April 14, 2012, 12:29:35 AM
And I'm guessing I can't buy them below face value?  Cheesy

Apparently not - I checked that too.
1043  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for a loan. Have collateral on: April 14, 2012, 12:20:16 AM

I still think you guys should be made MODs and the current 'Cabal' of larger lenders take control of the Lending forum.
I think you guys all share information and consult each other currently, so you are in a perfect position to further streamline things around here.

Actually, from a governance point of view, that would be a mistake.

As lenders, there may be occasions where moderators need to step in and provide an alternative point of view.  This separation of functions is important in many places, and I would not like to be in the conflicted position of having to pass judgement on my own actions - that would be a bad outcome for all concerned.  This is much like the SEC overseeing trading banks, and I'm sure most people wouldn't like to know the banks set the rules and then chose to ignore them without having to answer to anyone.
1044  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for a loan. Have collateral on: April 14, 2012, 12:01:17 AM
It is worth noting that over the past three months I've become a little wiser and am getting slightly better information from new customers.  Having said that, I also have a group of long-time customers that have proved their reliability and who I am happy to continue lending to without extra information.

In this case, I have good contact information, address, phone number, cross-references to other family members.

It is also worth nothing that some of the potentially fraudulent borrowers are being put off by the extra scrutiny, by either disappearing or changing their minds about requests.  That's a pretty natural evolution.

I'd also like to note I had a play on one of INAU's games and risked 75 coins for fun (got back 60) and not too fussed about the loss as my holdings have grown quite a bit over the past six months.  So while this 70 coin loan might be bad, it certainly doesn't break the bank.
1045  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for a loan. Have collateral on: April 13, 2012, 09:07:13 PM
update ?

Due in two days - I have a collection agent lined up.  Nicholas Milks is very easy to find.

As an aside, he does like hockey, and seems to have a daughter.  I know his work history, and his dad is Norman (around 60 years old), and has a nice, modest house.
1046  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Starfish BCB - Loans and Deposits (deposit rate 1.5%/week) on: April 12, 2012, 11:12:36 PM
Hi Patrick!  I would like to request a 1-day, 10 BTC loan, making the payback 10.07 BTC.
12QcUPyHNqdB4xJNiXBa6r9qVovMpfuZKP

Why would I risk ~$50 on a 0.07 coin return?  You would be better to simply ask for 10BTC and acknowledge upfront if you intended to ever repay or not.  At least Milkman39 had a decent story and sent me some nice documents/photos.

BTW, I'll have a collection job in NE USA soon if someone would like to pick up my new watch.
I intend to repay rather quickly.

Irrespective of your statement to repay quickly, the idea that a one day loan would be useful is unreasonable.  How does this loan fit with your other requests, I suspect it is just one of many attempts to receive coins.  For now, I will not be completing this loan.
1047  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for a 0.5 BTC loan (repaid within 24 hours!) on: April 12, 2012, 09:07:56 PM
first you asked for 0.10 , gave you 0.02 btc, then you asked for minimum 0.01, and then later 1.00 BTC

why not go to those btc ads sites to get free btc or do some services for btc, can you do logos ? or flash video ?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=56007.msg848085#msg848085

then 10BTC from Starfish, and now 30BTC from INAU

Go for broke, the largest filled loan is around 10,000 BTC.  If you think we're being mean, we are only responding to the ever more ludicrous requests.

BTW I have a question about this post:

It's ok.  I already have someone paying.

I assume you got that guy named "Patrick" to lend you the 10 BTC.  Are you sure he is reputable?  Please note that this lending forum is full of scammers and I don't want to call him a scammer or anything like that but, for obvious reasons, you do not want to borrow BTC from anyone that does not have the highest reputation.  Be sure you check him out before accepting any BTC from him.

I don't know about that guy but I can assure you I have the highest possible reputation on these forums.  If, after you check him out, you decide he is too shady I might consider a loan to you.

Please note however that the loan would have to be for 1,000 BTC since I do not want to "mess up" my nice clean wallet.

EDIT:  Finally broke 1000 Wink

EDIT:  Matthew, you are going to miss it - no way you can quit cold turykey.  Just read above.  Maybe not up to your high standards?  I know you want to show me how it is really done.

Unfortunately, text does not allow me to use a different Patrick Star voice.  So, having to defend my honour, I'm not a scammer, just retarded.  My collections minions like kneecaps.

As it is a legal mater now (as you say), can you provide the names of your lawyers so my lawyers can talk to them?

Reserve some sections of the forum for trolling, and keep the rest on the straight and narrow to save your sanity.  Lots in the off-topic section that should provide an expressive outlet.

1056  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Legitimate use of Bitcoin on: April 11, 2012, 04:27:29 AM
thanks for replies.  don't need convincing, to be honest my personal view on the legality of drugs makes me fully support websites such as silkroad, I was just interested to see what would be thrown up in discussion..  apologies for same old thread, please link me if you can remember any.

No matter, it possibly doesn't hurt to remind people that there are real uses for coins, and as the economy grows, it gets more diverse.

In response to a question I got about the yen, it was a physical delivery.  I travelled 9000 km to a hotel in Tokyo and it had been delivered and was waiting as promised.
As for buying dollars with coins, I do that as well, it pays my daughter's university costs.
1057  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Legitimate use of Bitcoin on: April 11, 2012, 04:04:01 AM
Again with this topic?  There are several threads around, but I use BTC for real stuff.  Examples:

 - Recently purchased 80,000 yen for 200 coins, saving transaction fees that would have taken 4% of value.
 - Recently arrange shipping of a small value item ($50) from the USA via intermediary.  Postage was $9.72 and I paid 3 coins to help compensate for his time.  Useful, but unexciting item, just not available locally, and the company didn't ship outside US.
 - Transferred funds to AUD account to fund legal action to recover a loan (well, part of the legal cost).

And yesterday I purchased
 - a magazine subscription.
 - purchased some GPU power for another non-BTC project.

If you have any in Australia I can assist. Used to provide small collecting service a while back for people ripped off in group buys on forums I was on (nothing to do with BTC )

Yes, one - claims to be in Brisbane, but might also have a Melbourne base.  I have some info, and 100 coins at stake.  Happy to share half of any recovery - pm me if interested.
1059  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: GLBSE IPO Handling and Interaccount Transfers Discussion Thread. on: April 10, 2012, 12:04:24 AM
Having had a couple of days to reflect on the recent activity, I would like to point out that there are actually two functions being combined here.

1: Asset Registry - most companies employ a registry service separate from the exchange to track asset holders (shareholders).
2: Trading/Exchange platform - to facilitate liquidity.

GLBSE is combining these two, while in many jurisdictions and operations they run separately.  Bearing in mind the differences in functions clarifies the duties and obligations of the two component parts.
1060  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Starfish BCB - Loans and Deposits (deposit rate 1.5%/week) on: April 09, 2012, 10:35:35 PM
223BTC loss for march. That must sting a bit. You still working any recovery angles on those?

A few swear words, but it's ok.  I've caused a bit of shit for one of the people concerned.  But it's history now, and overall coin income is pretty good.  The scale I'm dealing with, while not as big as some other people, is still pretty substantial.  So I know there are some risks involved and potential to lose serious money on some of the loans I have out in the wild.

Also, and this isn't a secret, I have a separate portfolio of deposits/investments that sit outside of the Starfish BCB.  It provides the coverage I need, for instance, to support the deposits that I take, and also helps balance out some of the loan losses.
