I hadn't seen that patch.  I'll have to take a look at that.

I think I'll still have a go at setting this up as a webpage, since that would be a lot more convenient for people than patching the client.
1042  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Webpage to paste raw tx for broadcast? on: November 01, 2011, 10:32:55 PM
Nice diagrams.  This will give me something to chew on as a familiarize myself with the protocol.

I'm thinking that the easiest way to set this up as a web service would be to patch the client source code to allow injecting pre-constructed transactions, and then use the client to handle communicating with peers and broadcasting the tx.  I think it's either that or writing my own script to handle peer discovery and communication.  I'll have to start messing around with this on testnet.
1043  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Webpage to paste raw tx for broadcast? on: November 01, 2011, 10:06:29 PM
Okay that makes sense.  So you would basically use this to be able to send/spend bitcoins that have have in offline storage (paper wallet, etc).

This sounds like an interesting project I might like to take on to get my feet wet.  Can you give me an example of an offline transaction you would construct and what the resultant data packet would be that would need to be sent?  I will have to do some reading about the bitcoin protocol, but if you give me an example, that will get me jump started.

What would be the reason to have something like this?  What is the use case?

On the internet, anyone can be a "lawyer" :p
1046  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Official Bitcoin Unicode Character? on: November 01, 2011, 09:20:28 PM

From what I was able to find in Google, there had been a proposal, and the Unicode Consortium had asked for more details, such as evidence of a plain text symbol being used and research into possible trademark status.  So I don't think it has been rejected, it is waiting for "our" feedback.

I'm pretty sure TPTB normally need to see a reason for whitelisting people.

So many people have so many of these box fonts for me.  One box.  Then three boxes, a space, then the fourth box.

I think some people here might just be allergic to bahts.
Yes, it depends on your OS and what fonts and language support you have installed.  I see:

It appears that Unicode has given Bitcoin the finger as far as having a designation for a Bitcoin character included.
Was there a proposal that was officially rejected?  I couldn't find one. http://www.unicode.org/pending/proposals.html

1051  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Embedable Javascript Bitcoin miner for your website on: November 01, 2011, 07:05:37 PM
Does anyone have the source code for the Javascript miner?  I'm interested in reading it to learn more of the coding ins and outs of writing a miner.
1052  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [HOWTO] One line to download & compile bitcoin 0.5.0rc1 on Ubuntu on: November 01, 2011, 05:42:37 PM
New question.  Would you be able to help me out with Ubuntu installation instructions for a CPU miner such as Ufasoft?  (I know CPU mining is not economically feasible, I'm doing this as a learning experience).

Eventually the client needs to support downloading compressed "recent" copy of blockchain via a bitorrent type protocol.  The client can still verify every block back to the genesis block locally so there is no risk of fraud.

The blockchain will only get larger and larger.  By "recent" I mean the network could take a snapshot of the client every say 1000 blocks (roughly week) on the even 1000.  Compress the blockchain and offer it as a seed via private bittorrent type protocol.  The ability for all clients to download larger compressed "chunks" of the blockchain in out of order allocation to maximize throughput should speed up new block downloads.  The error checking built into bittorrent protocol would reduce the issue of block corruption.  Many people like myself would gladly devote bandwith to provide highspeed continual seeds of the "block snapshot".

Once client has completed the torrent (w/ nice progress bar) it will verify each block from genesis block and then begin to download new blocks beyon xxx000 which at most would be 999 more blocks.

You should outline this suggestion somewhere (here or github) where the devs will see it and can evaluate the idea.
1054  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: How many btcs do you earn everyday? on: November 01, 2011, 05:24:42 PM

It was a joke.  Sorry for my obscure humor.  To generate 3501 coins a person would need 51% of the network hashing power which would be a very bad thing for everyone.
No, obscure humor is fine.  My bad for not getting it.  Thanks for the n00b explanation.

How?

Did you by any chance change your keyboard layout/input language?

Try typing your passphrase into notepad, does it type out correctly?
1057  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: LinuxCoin A lightweight Debian based OS with everything ready to go. on: November 01, 2011, 07:04:16 AM
Any updates as to when 1.0 will be released?
1058  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Official Bitcoin Unicode Character? on: November 01, 2011, 05:57:25 AM
Now that was a long thread to read through.  I want to revive this topic.  What about if we use a B symbol with double vertical lines that only come out of the top and bottom of the B, similar to what are on the casascius coins and the official bitcoin client icon?

Just wanted to let the OP know that I get this error when looking at the my_stats.php page:

Code:

1060  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Dangerous State of Bitcoin (.com) on: October 31, 2011, 11:42:23 PM
Troll thread, the correct website is only one, the fact that someone own bitcoin.com means nothing if it isn't the right site.
People should learn to check the website, the fact that it has bitcoin in the name means nothing.
Not really.  If all internet users were savvy and checked where they were, then none of the phishing scams would work.  Yet they are alive and going strong...
