51% is totally a problem.
if someone has 51% of hashing power then we have to trust they aren't going to shut bitcoin down one day.
if you want a system where you need to trust someone then it already exists, its called a bank.
Well, basicly, you have to trust few individuals now too. Few owners of pools, or few individuals that pull code requests for BTC core etc. It's not as "no trust needed" as most think it is. |

It simply isn't necessary at this point.
Not only that it is not necessary, it's imposible to do. Hardware manufacturers have their hands on BTC decision makers and they wont let anything change the way it works. I don't know how many of you realize this, but BTC decision makers are payed by same companys that are making ASIc hardware...how neat is that.... |

Hvala na tablici...posluzit ce. Kako stvari stoje, nesto BTC-a ce kapnut. Jos 7 dana do zbrajanja ako se ne varam. Vec sam preko 50 komada, a poceo sam prije par dana. Da stvar bude bolja, ne spamam bezveze sa nekim kratkim "lol" tekstovima ili tako nesto niti vodim konverzacije sa par rijeci po postu. Jesi ti do sada dobio kakvu isplatu? Tj. tocnije, zanima me kako ide zbrajanje tih "konstruktivnih" postova. Sto jekonstruktivno a sto nije? Dali ti sam odbijes neki postotak onako iz glave, reda radi, ili stvarno gledas po nekim stvarima (mozda duzina posta?!) sto je konstruktivno ili ne? Npr. jel ovo konstruktivan post?  Pa ovako, konstruktivan post moze da bude i jedna recenica ako je dobar odgovor ili pitanje. Ne smes samo da spamujes , da bumpujes, da postujes jednu sliku. Ili ono samo Slazem se. U principu ja odbijem mozda 10ak postova cisto onako ali Stunna ne proverava to toliko detaljno, nikada mi nije on odbio. Mada on mene i ne proverava jer sam moderator na njegovom sajtu i veruje mi. Ja sam dobio isplate vec 3 meseca tako da nemas tu sta da brines sigurno ces biti isplacen. Oko isplata se uopce ne brinem. Sve dok dice-ovi zaraduju, a zaraduju masno, mislim da ce tip placati jer od toga ima direktnu korist. |

1) 51% by itself is not a problem. It becomes problem if person who is in control of those 51% does something silly which is highly not in their intrest
2) Fear of 51% attach should not be in "someone massing large amounts of ASIC hardware" or "someone attracting more than 51% of mining power". It's much easier to destroy bitcoin network. All NSA (for example) needs to do is to get to leaders of top 3-4 mining pools (somehow...some dark secrets etc.), and it's game over. As users switch from largest one to smaller pool, nothing change. They are still getting into controlled one. Person / system who would control those 3-4 people (and we all agree it's not hard to control 3-4 individuals) would be running bitcoin network as he wants and would have ability to undermine it so hard that it wouldnt come back up
3) Hardware is not protection of the network. Bitcoin is not strong because of ASIC's, it's strong because of it's protocol. So, if you need to protect software, you dont protect it with hardware, you protect it on software side. Soltions to "pool mining", "51% attack" etc. are out there. Devs just need to implement them inside code.

Ghash is earning insane amount of $$$ on BTC. I don't see how would they intentionaly want to destroy what feeds them (and feeds them very very good).
Thos, this situation, should be sign for devs....it's time to make some serious decisions.
Everyone sais, ASIC's are "keepers of network" they "make it safer".
Well, you don't need ASIC to tear Bitcoin apart. All you need to do is to bribe / somehow convince leaders of 2 or 3 top pools and thing is over. That's 2 or 3 individuals....and that's what's really scarry.
Bitcoin is great thing, not because of hardware, it's great because of it's protocol (software). That's why security can not be and should not be guaranteed by hardware. It should be enforced in protocol, on software side. Solutions are out there, just check some other coins and their solutions.
But i dont really see it change. Hardware companies are too deep into BTC coding decisions to let anything change as far as that goes.
I still believe in Bitcoin, i still hold what i have, and buy what i can, but i dont have to like every aspect of it.

Novac mi treba sad za srednju školu,moram si kupiti novi laptop jer ću se upisati za programera.Sad trenutno koristim notebook od 10" ne mogu raditi na tome.

Prodavati zemlju / stanove / kuce i sl. je najveca bedastoca koju covjek moze napraviti. To se radi kad nemas drugog izlaza, kad je voda preko nosa i samo u kolicinama dovoljnim da se prodise. A sta ako se seli u neku drugu zemlju, bez ikakve namjere za povratak? Cak i u takvim slucajevima nije sve crno bijelo. Nekretnine se mogu koristiti i preko granice (rentanje stanova / apartmana / zemljista itd.) Narocito kad uzmes u obzir BTC i mogucnost prebacivanja "zaradjenog" preko granice bez problema. |

Bitcoin won't ever become a world currency. Go look at places below or at the poverty line. They can't afford to own a Bitcoin wallet or have access to one.
This is not true and if you read this forum and / or news you would know it. Even in most undeveloped countries, ppl use OLD mobile phones that can send sms messages, and to use Bitcoin, SMS is all you need. Little bit of electricity, and connectivity and BTC can go to any place where Banks can go. Places that have absolutely zero electricity and connectivity to rest of the world AND are inhabitated arn't really in large percentage. And there are movements (google) that are working on tech that would enable wifi access to any place in the world. All someone needs is little bit of electricity (one single small solar panel) and low poerd device like old phone, and there you go...BTC access. |

Anyway comment to article. It's just one way world could go with BTC. Everything inside that article that was wrote as "replaced by blockchain" can adept and change, and use that blockchain as it's own advantage. They doesnt need to dissapear. Blockchain is just storage of information and people need more than just information. More than just security of their bitcoin. You need security in a way that you will receive your goods and many more. Nothing that blockchain can solve. But businesses around blockchain can.
For example PayPal. Many thing that they will perish with BTC on the rise.
What if PayPal embraces bitcoin?
What if they start using it to move money around the world (now they use banks).
What if they offer "buyer protection" and "seller protection" to BTC users? Will they perish?
No they ownt. They can turn it into their advantage and live out of it, just like they live out of fiat transactions. As security layer for buyer and seller.
There are many more examples where similar approach can be used. Businesses that we think will dissapear can adopt BTC and become stronger and better because of it.
