1101  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: September 02, 2020, 06:52:49 PM
You might have got an email from superbru to join the restarted pool. Disregard that. It was the only way I could contact all the previous users to see if they were interested in joining the new one. The pool we will be using is the one I sent you via PM.

Like what the mods did to the WO thread..?  Dunno..

Anyway, yeah the suggestion sounded dumb in hindsight...  And desperate.  Lol.  But if nobody else wants to join then we'll have an overlay on the prizes.  Works for the guys who joined.

Only an admin can do that and as far as I'm aware that's the only thread that was given such treatment. I don't think it's required or necessary here. Just keep spreading the word about the pool and I'm sure we can get a handful of new users.
1102  Other / Meta / Re: Is it time to have a Corona virus sub-board? on: September 02, 2020, 11:42:38 AM
The virus seems to dominate a number of boards here, and the discussions are getting repetitive, and even boring in some cases. We seem to have two camps - those who believe the globalist Pharma propaganda, and the open minded who have done some research and thought about the situation. It seems that neither camp will be able to convert the other, and in a few cases, members are having to resort to personal insults to replace their weak arguments.

I think it is debasing the forum, as it is affecting many other forums and news sites. Bitcoin, DeFi and global economics are far more important, and it would be handy if we could get away from discussions about a minor infection that is being used to distract the world from the really important issues.

Can we have a conspiracy board for those who feel everything is a conspiracy? Maybe a board for Left Vs Right. Right Vs Wrong. Atheists Vs Religious. Bikers vs Scooters. Flat Earthers Vs Square Earthers. Anti-vaxxers vs Vaxxers. I don't know whether this is a serious request or not but we don't need a sub for this. It'll die down as soon as covid does. At best we should probably start trashing duplicate threads if there's nothing new in them.

Why is TBA twice on the list?
it seems to me that I saw the application of jeremypwr, or I misinterpreted something. Also, maybe you can send PM to the rest of the participants from the previous season, just as a reminder.

btw, I see that some have already set their picks on the first round.  Grin you are very impatient  Cheesy

Because there's two people to be announced. jeremypwr hasn't paid yet but said he will. Don't really want to spam people with messages, especially if they're not interested. I'm sure most would assume the pool was continuing and would know where to find it if they were interested.
1104  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2020/2021 on: September 02, 2020, 10:15:39 AM
Liverpool's first match is vs Leeds...  Not to be underestimated imo with Bielsa at the helm.  Bielsa prolly already has spies taking note of everything about LFC's training and Klopp's strategies.  Grin

1 - 1, 0 - 0?  Double chance and under 2.5 goals combo is at 4.8  Grin  You could also just take the double chance at 3.75.

Ah, someone agrees. Leeds had a very good championship season last year and they were also made to play offs in 18-19 so yeah they are not to be underestimated. Game is gonna be real good.

The drop off in quality from the Championship to the Premier League is huge though. I'm a Leeds fan but I think they're going to struggle. Maybe they can get a good result against Liverpool which will give them a boost in confidence, but I think they'll probably lose 3 out of their opening 4 games and that's not hard to imagine since they're playing Liverpool and City. Sheffield United away will be hard too, but they should beat Fulham at home. If they don't that will be worrying.

Leeds was the best team in English Championship for two years already.
They were the team that clearly deserved to play on the first division.
It would be nice if they buy good players and see them getting a europa league position it would be a real success for them.

Leeds will very likely be fighting relegation so a successful season for them will just be to stay up and look to build their squad for the future in the hope of wining something again. Doesn't really happen much these days as the bigger clubs have such a domination.

1106  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2020/21 on: September 02, 2020, 10:04:38 AM
Barca's squad could be decimated if they're not careful. Messi potentially going to City and a couple of news outlets are already reporting it's a done deal but nothing confirmed yet, Suarez likely leaving and looking like he might be going to Juventus. Coutinho was absent from training and speculation he's going too. I already thought City will dominate the big competitions this upcoming season but with Messi that's only going to be strengthened, but I still just can't see him going. Is he really going to tarnish his legacy at Barca? He'll already go down as a legend there but it's going to sully his favour with the fans if he leaves on bad terms. Barca will probably give him whatever he wants to it can't just be about the money or is he wanting to continually win things and add a PL trophy to his cabinet which City will likely win this year with or without him. He's not going to last forever though so maybe it is time to move on before it's too late.
1107  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: September 02, 2020, 09:51:55 AM
@hilarious
I think we’ll get 30 paid participants, we still have time to go. No need to panic just yet, the interest will arrive.

I'm not panicking, but it's a little disappointing we're not already at 30 users. The pool has grown in numbers from year to year and with the prizes offered by Sportsbet I thought people would be very eager to join and I was thinking we'd probably get 40-50 users this year. I'm sure we'll get 30 but I think it will be a crawl to get there unless we see loads of people signing up nearer the start. It's probably a good thing for us the less people join as it makes it easier to win, but I'd rather have a decent amount of users playing. You could probably sell the shirt on ebay and get at least half your entry fee back and all you need to do is win one weekly round to get a free $50 bet and then you're already in profit so the entry fee shouldn't be a worry.

Couple more users who said they'll pay before the start:

Avirunes
BitcoinGirl.Club
Ulven
tomahawk9

Don't think either LFC_Bitcoin or tomahawk9 have paid yet or if they're going to play. rdbase said to send him a reminder when the pool goes live a couple of months ago but did and no response yet. Maybe BitSat19 if he can get the money together. Does anyone know what users played last season but haven't joined yet?
1108  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: September 01, 2020, 06:23:59 PM
^  How about moving it to the main gambling section and remove the sigs...?  That'll make it a lot more visible and discourage spamming at the same time.

If still nobody's interested then that's a huge overlay with the sponsor money in there.  Good for the ones who joined.

Remove sigs? What do you mean? Regardless and as I said above, you can't just move threads to more popular boards in the hope more people will see them. The only sub this thread belongs in is Gambling Discussion and the only sub the sign-up thread belongs in is Games and Rounds so I can't move them anywhere even if I wanted to.

If anyone is planning to pay/play but is just waiting for whatever reason then let me know and I'll add you to a 'to pay list' or something. It would be helpful to know how many users are planning to sign up so I can plan/adjust the prizes accordingly. We need 34 users to get a pot of 0.3 so if we don't hit that I'll have to lower the prizes from the currently stated ones in the sign up thread which would be a shame. mole0815 and jeremypwr have said they'll join and there were a couple others bur I won't add anyone unless they confirm their intent again.

There's no deadline per se other than the start of the season but I'd rather get everyone's money in asap so I can work out the prizes.

That is good to hear. I have a few items on my To Do list at the moment.
In any case, I will be there as already announced and will take care of the transfer of the participation fee as soon as possible Cool

//edit: Short question about the additional price. Is it a Watford or a Southampton shirt?

It was originally a Watford shirt but maybe that's changed since they're now sponsored Southampton but I need to get clarification. The trip to a game might now be to a Southampton match since they've apparently got a VIP box now there but I'll keep everyone updated.
1110  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: September 01, 2020, 11:02:22 AM
Really hoping we can get this to 30 people. About 5 people have promised to pay before the start so we need another 5 or so. Less than two weeks till the start of the season now.

Don't you think shifting Pool joining thread to main 'Gambling' or 'Gambling Discussion' section will put more eyes on that? Is 'Games and Rounds' the most suitable section for that thread?

Nevertheless, Messi is most probably set to join Man City tomorrow. Are we gonna see more participants after that? Cheesy

Excited for this year's League! It gonna be huge.

Well I'm sure it would get much more eyes in the main Bitcoin Discussion sub but it doesn't belong in there and the sign up thread wouldn't be valid anywhere other than games and rounds. This thread is in Gambling Discussion so it's not like people aren't going to see it.

As for Messi, I'd be surprised if City can sort a deal within two weeks before the start of the season, not to mention if he does leave there will be legal issues that will probably prevent him from playing. La Liga already issued a statement saying he's still contracted to Barca as far as they're concerned but they probably don't want to see him go either as it would be a huge blow for La Liga. Barca will probably just give him his own way and offer him a lot more money to stay.

Added. 15 days to go before the season kicks off. Pot at 0.23705000 currently. 19 people signed up so far. Lets try get that to 30 at least. If anyone plans to sign up but is just delaying payment for whatever reason it would be nice to know so we can plan for at least what sort of figures we will get.

Leicester City vs. Sheffield Wednesday are having a friendly that has just kicked off in anyone is wanting to watch some Pl action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ynub_N62EwQ

And of course the Charity Shield is on later between Arsenal and Liverpool.

Here's what I'm thinking...  Looking at the lines, how can Liverpool win by a lot of points vs City last season and still be the underdog vs City to win the EPL this season.  Huh

They dropped off to the end, were knocked out of the CL much earlier and City were on top form for the last month or so thrashing teams 4 and 5 nil including Liverpool. I think both teams will likely carry on their form for the next season with Liverpool being a bit shakey. I've just got a feeling City are going to run away with the league this year like Liverpool did, especially if they can sign Messi which if he is going to leave Barca City is where he will likely go. The first game against Leeds should be interesting. Liverpool should spank them, but if Leeds can get a point or more that could certainly be a cause for concern, and maybe give Leeds the confidence boost they need. Big teams can often be shaky at the start so nothing would surprise me.

Defamation aside...

It's that time of the thread where I point out the irony of the OP's use of the word "he" towards myself when attempting to take the higher ground in both the op's first post and subsequent posts.

Archive [1a] [1b]

Says the guy falsely accusing me of being homophobic when nothing of the sort was posted. I wasn't attempting to take the higher ground either. Clearly I was being glib and satirical in retaliation to your asinine negative feedback. And it would only be ironic if you don't identify as a he. Personally and either way I don't really care about 'misgendering' people but you don't seem to mind slandering people either.
1116  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2020/2021 on: August 28, 2020, 08:51:15 PM
Is Messi really going to Manchester City? This will make City a prime candidate to win the Premier League title this season..Messi fits perfectly into City's style of play

They're already a prime candidate to win the premier league but one player is never going to guarantee you results. Messi didn't win Barca the La Liga or stop them getting stuffed by Bayern this year. Messi's style of play may not fit in well with the Premier League as well. No idea how he's going to fair in such a league. He's really not going to like a lot of the tough tackles and I think a lot of players will give him a hard time just to prove a point or because they think he's a primadonna. Regardless, I'd still like to see him at City and I do think he would be a huge boost to their team. I really just can't see him leaving Barca though. I think this is just a huge power play by him. Apparently the new manager allegedly said to him he wasn't going to get any special treatment and maybe that caused him to throw is toys out of the pram. I'm sure there will just be a huge shake up behind the scenes and Messi getting his own way and subsequently staying put. It's just going to be too messy otherwise (excuse the pun). There will probably be a long legal battle if he does try to leave especially since the clause in his contract that allows him to leave has allegedly expired, but who knows what that means due to the extension of the league due to coivd. City won't be able to stump up the fee Barca want otherwise so the only option is him likely going there for free.
1117  Economy / Reputation / Re: Merits offered as a prize on: August 28, 2020, 10:08:27 AM
If there are no official rules regarding merits or their sending of - then it means it is open to interpretation. Surely it would have been better to have had a system with point-specific rules in place as it would have clearly defined what was allowed and what was not. Maybe this will change in future.

You can ask theymos about it but from comments he's made in the past he isn't a big fan of specific set-in-stone rules and even the 'rules' thread here is unofficial and not sanctioned by him, considered more of a guide if anything. Just like feedback or scams they're left up to users to decide on how to police and from what I recall of his previous comments on merit they're to be largely unmoderated and left up to users to decide on how they issue then.Maybe you can create a thread and get community input on what they should and shouldn't be given for but I'd just say take potential abuse of them on a case by base basis like this situation.
1118  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BitcoinNews.com's UEFA Champions League Football Preditor Pool Discussion thread on: August 27, 2020, 05:09:56 PM
I'm putting everything back, split evenly, into Liverpool winning CL and EPL. Fairlay's got decent odds still at Fairlay (2.7 for Liverpool EPL and 6.96 for Liverpool UCL).

Anyone want to give me better odds? I'll take a market from you there;)

I'm looking for the same but with City to win the PL and CL. Maybe even the treble or quadruple. Harder to do these days though when managers seemingly field weaker teams for the domestic non-PL cups. Had a bet on Liverpool to win everything last season but they went and threw it away fielding schoolkids in the cups.
1119  Economy / Reputation / Re: I've been the victim of a hate crime. on: August 27, 2020, 05:06:08 PM
What's going on in this thread? I don't know what in the various names of Satan provoked this display of blatant transphobia, but I'm going to be far more polite than I rightfully should be and merely suggest that such "jokes" are in exceptionally poor taste and that you should perhaps try to find a way to mock your detractors in a way that doesn't disparage an unrelated oppressed minority group at the same time. Just a thought. Not that anyone cares what I think. Sad

Timelord accused me of being homophobic for making a joke and subsequently left me negative feedback for such. Taste is subjective, but you're being transphobic if anything though. You're not respecting my identity as the Queen of England. That's as valid as anybody else's identity and to deny it is hatespeech. Also, I'm not transphobic (or homophobic). Transphobia is the fear of Trans people. I don't fear them. As I said to you before, I actually support both trans and gay rights, but I don't support people's rights when they infringe on others and that includes forcing people to think the same way you do. If you don't want to respect someone identifying as genderless or genderfluid or  identifying as an animal or whatever else they make up you don't have to, just like you don't have to support my right to identity as the Queen of England. Not everyone has to think the same way and it certainly shouldn't be a crime to do so.

His/He? How dare you! I identify as the Queen of England
I always thought of you as a cool attack helicopter, how did you turn into an immortal queen?

I'm gender/species/monarch fluid. Sometimes I identify as an attack helicopter. Sometimes a dog or ferrit. Sometimes the Queen of England or the Prince of Narnia. Depends how I feel that day.

I was surprised by the feedback that Timelord2067 left on hilariousandco (and alts):
Quote
This user is engaging in homophobic hate speech against the wider LGBTIQQ community as evidenced in the referenced "satirical" thread. https://archive.vn/vgDQz
That topic was funny! Let's not start tagging people for jokes.
I'm surprised (and probably shouldn't be) by his hypocrisy more than anything else, given his earlier "chainsaw accident" joke. But you're right; I'm not going to tag him just because I don't see the funny side of genital mutilation. Undecided

OMG. He needs to be tagged for this. Seriously though, I think timelord just went through all the threads I'd created and was looking for something to tag me for and that's the first thing he could think of.
1120  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2020/2021 on: August 27, 2020, 03:40:35 PM
Silva is a small loss for Manchester City. Moreover, they will buy strong players in defense and most likely in midfield. Guardiola is a smart coach. And with Manchester City finances, he will definitely take the championship and the Champions League next year.

I think they will probably win the PL fairly easily this year, but with the CL that's a whole different ball game as you're coming up against the best of the best in Europe. If Barca can get thrashed 8-2 by Bayern and City get knocked out by Lyon that just shows you that anything can happen. Maybe if City get Messi then they might have a better chance at it but Messi didn't stop Barca getting pummled.

As you know I have backed the blues. But it just a punt.

There will be about 5-8 capable teams in the league. I would be surprised if Liverpool could manage to repeat it again this season.

After a bit of football overload they have now got me hungry again they know what they are doing.
