@hilariousetc I didn't follow the thread for long but read your Sportsbet.io sponsoring post. That's a good news, really. So at which entry charges are we seeing consensus at? My vote is for 0.004 BTC per person. It's soft and good spot.

I'll wait to see if the bitcoin price settles as it's gone down around £300, but it's still probably gonna be around £35-40 to join, but I'd like it to be at a nice round bitcoin-value.

I can't say no to a free bet every week since that basically pays for itself even if you get one of those for the number of weeks in a regular season. Which can't be too hard to have it hit for each participant to achieve for a week. Wink

Just to clarify: it's just the user who gets the most points from the week that gets the $50 free bet. It's not that hard to do and many different users got the yellow cap last season. I think someone posted a table of all the users a few pages back.

Agreed. Even I managed to get ONE yellow cap the whole 38 weeks and I need only repeat the feat to win it at least once, paying for the participation. It's almost a no-brainer if you know something decent about football.

Be interesting to see if there was anyone who didn't get any yellow caps. Looking forward to this a LOT btw!

big_daddy complied the table below. It's quite interesting. I missed out on the top 5 slots but had the most yellow caps. 23 players got a yellow cap and when there was only a little over 30 players that's pretty good going.

This pool will provide higher motivation for sure so maybe I'll even do some research before the matches and not just pick everything by heart Smiley

Ha. I've heard a lot of people tell me this already.

I just check total 23 members won yellow caps and me never won in last season as well so now with this new sponsorship look like need to do some more work for 50$ free bet because very good deal for all members in this pool good work by @hilariousetc he is really doing great work for this pool from start.

Most of the credit has to go to jeremypwr and Sportsbet for the offers. I just did my best to get the best deal for everyone. I'm sure this pool is going to make the upcoming season a lot more enjoyable for people   Cheesy.
1162  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk.org YouTube channel? on: August 11, 2020, 05:47:32 PM
A bitcoin channel would probably do better - but if Theymos wants to fund a bitcointalk channel, more power to him!

There's plenty of bitcoin related content on YouTube already. I think one related to the forum could be helpful, especially to Newbies. Helpful how-to videos much like the guides we already have but in video form. I'm still hoping the Newbie Welcome Message will get implemented at some point but we could include a video link there as well if someone did a video on how to get started here. Maybe there could be some cash prizes awarded for the best ones created or maybe merit dished out instead.

I totally missed a very important page of updates and somehow completely missed out the fact that hilarious had already secured a new sponsor. Which now makes sense to some conversations I'd been having where I felt I was clueless the past week. I'm so dumb. Seriously.

That said, well done @hilarious for that great work, but also thank you Sportsbet and co, I'm very glad that we got this rolling now. Welcome to the club of bastards @jeremypwr!

Pretty sure lots of new bastards will join up with that sponsor money coming in.  Grin  If they don't then there's a huge overlay which is good.

So has hilarious decided how much the entry fee will be?

Probably between 0.004 and 0.0045 but I'll see how much that's worth when I post the thread. Bitcoin is down a little but I'm sure it will be up and down for a while. I'm trying to aim for £35-40 in fiat value though.

Most chances we will have between 0.004 to 0.005 but still we have one month hopefully after end of Champions League all will be clear about this fees and other details.

The Premier League kicks off on the 12 of Sept so it'll be a month tomorrow. Maybe tomorrow would be a good day to post the sign-up thread.
1164  Economy / Reputation / Re: BitcoinGirl.Club hacked? on: August 11, 2020, 10:05:14 AM
Anybody heard from him, what’s the latest on him trying to get his account back?

The BitcoinGirl.Club account is banned so I'm sure the admins locked it at least. Not sure how long they take to restore it but it seems like a pretty clear cut case especially if BitcoinGirl.Club can send them a signed message.

It is sad we have not heard from him. Imagine trying to change all those logins and passwords associated with the single email account.

Whoever this user "Side chain" is, it seems he has committed a criminal offence by hacking in to the account of BitcoinGirl.club and it seems though he is still not banned according to the Mod Log

Anybody heard from him, what’s the latest on him trying to get his account back?

Unlikely to get banned but the admins should have at least looked into that account and seen if it was tied to any others.
1165  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 11, 2020, 09:59:49 AM
count me in, i am for 0.005 BTC, it would be good to at least match Sportsbet input of 0.15 BTC, with 30+ participants
0.005 btc is quite big enough already if converted to fiat currency here in our place. it could be worth a 3x a day meal, a prepaid load for 1 month and extra allowance to pay for a one night stand. LOL, anyway 0.15 BTC os quite good reward and of course this can.get high at the time when there will be many participants joining the bet. I still wondering if I too will join in this great opportunity to win that reward. Who knows that I could get lucky to it.

How many meals or one night stands can 0.1 get you for coming first place? Even 0.005 isn't much when you consider it's for an entire season. There's also ten winning spots, plus the Watford shirt and the chance to win a $50 bet every week. Sportsbet are also seemingly going to throw in the chance win an all expenses paid trip to any football match you want so there's a lot of great prizes to be won. Hopefully bitcoin will keep rising throughout the season making the pot even tastier.
1166  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BitcoinNews.com's UEFA Champions League Football Preditor Pool Discussion thread on: August 10, 2020, 02:00:33 PM
Got 1 correct score and 3 correct outcomes from the four games played so good overall, but missed out on correct scores all by one goal which is pretty annoying as to move up the table correct results isn't going to be enough right now as most backed the favourites so most got points. Moved up two places but could have been 4 or 5 had the correct scores come in. Only 6.5 points behind 5th place but without correct scores that's going to be hard to achieve especially in the quarters where the fixtures look very difficult to predict..

To all you Barca fans out there if you know 5+ players on the Barca bench I am taking my hat to you. I consider myself quite knowledgeable about these things but I never heard about half of this guys. Good thing they have 5 substitutes, we should bet on how many they will make this match Smiley
So here it goes, Barca bench for one of most important games of the season:
Neto
Junior Firpo
Inaki Pena
Ricard Puig
Ansu Fati
Ronald Araujo
Monchu
Oscar Mingueza
Konrad de la Fuente
Ludovit Reis
Alejandro Orellana

I'd never heard of any of them either. Was a bit worried but they dominated the game.
1167  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 10, 2020, 01:47:17 PM
So, the good news is that Sportsbet will be sponsoring the next pool.

Perfect thanks a lot sportsbet.io and also hilariousetc! Unfortunately I always do very badly in such betting games but to be there is everything Grin
I will be there as it looks like at the moment and I am looking forward to some exciting games. When will the registration open?

Very soon. Tomorrow hopefully, but if you keep an eye on this thread I'll announce it here with a new link to sign up. There's a little over a month till the PL kicks off so you won't miss it  Cheesy.

count me in, i am for 0.005 BTC, it would be good to at least match Sportsbet input of 0.15 BTC, with 30+ participants

I'm sure we will match the 0.15 whatever the fee, but it'll probably between 0.004-0.0045 so that's £36.39 and £40.93 right now.
1168  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BitcoinNews.com's UEFA Champions League Football Preditor Pool Discussion thread on: August 07, 2020, 05:44:46 PM
Anyone know when the line-ups get announced? They don't seem to have been yet. I won't submit my score until I see who's starting. I wonder if Bale will be on the bench? Real are stupid for not even benching him. They're also stupid for not loaning him out at least. Nobody is going to pay Bale's wages but I'm sure they could find someone to pay 10% or 20% of them at least and that's 10-20% they're saving if they have absolutely no intention of playing him. To be honest, if they're not going to play him they should just let him go anywhere that will have him. It's a damn shame he isn't playing football. He would be a nice addition to a team in the PL.

so? Juve & Real to win today or what? Cool
those are my pool picks: 2:1 & 0:2

I will make some over goals on my bets, and will definitely make the Real to win the CL ad a just for fun bet, cause its around 25/1, so there is always a little chance

City vs Real could be a draw.  2 - 2?  Grin

City should win, but I could see a draw maybe. Both teams to score in each half might be a nice one.
1169  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BitcoinNews.com's UEFA Champions League Football Preditor Pool Discussion thread on: August 07, 2020, 11:01:24 AM
So I posted in the wrong thread yesterday haha, thanks Indymoney for pointing that out. Silly me. The more I see it, the more I'm thinking Real's going to snatch this, and if they actually progress I also have quite a nice sum waiting for me on a bet yet to settle on Real progressing made pre lockdown.

I doubt they can win this, but it will be interesting if they get an early goal or score first. I'd say a city win but it'll probably be close.

Still tinkering with my picks. We're bunched up so close together I know a half point could be the difference between prizes and no prizes =D

Yep very tight up there behind bigdaddy- I’m still hoping to get up into the top 5 somehow.
Still fancy Real to do it and Bale has decided not to travel to Manchester as he knew he wouldn’t get a game ! Cant work Zidane and Bale out - at least put Bale on the bench to bring on when your 1 goal down and 10 mins left - it’s what he loves ??

11 matches left - not a lot of points to play with - Good luck all  Wink

Isn't there only nine games left? If so,  that's a potential max 27 number of points. Bigdaddy is on 126 in first place so that's a 33 gap between him and me down in 13th place so impossible to catch him even if I tried. There's only 13 points between 2nd and 13th though so claiming a top 5 prize is possible for most of us if we do great and the ones above not so. I think bigdaddy has the number one spot in the bag though as that 20 point lead is nigh on impossible to catch even for examplens in second place.
1170  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BitcoinNews.com's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 07, 2020, 10:54:15 AM
Bitcoin price has gone up quite a bit the past few days so it probably won't be 0.005 unless it goes back down. 0.004 is currently £36.12 and 0.0045 is £40.61. Superbru doesn't seem to be letting users create a pool for the 2020/21 season yet so I'll probably wait for that before I start the sign up process.

Is this pool also paying out the top 5 or less - since we have less players here than in PL one?

I looked it up on the 1st post but it seems it's from the last season.

I'm holding on 5th so just making my strategy - if it pays top 5 I might play a bit more conservatively.

This is the PL pool thread. You guys are in the wrong place like Indymoney said.

1171  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: August 05, 2020, 08:27:37 PM
Did you see the 1st Fulham goal? I really can't explain what was in the head of Brentford's goalkeeper. The way he jumped after the goal was even more funny.
I really feel for the guy, he won't be able to sleep for a year probably. A horrible blunder, this stuff is career-wrecking.

It was an even game, Fulham just caught a lucky break at the end.

I didn't even know what had happened at first. Looked like it had gone wide and the keeper did one of those precautionary I had it covered anyway lads half-assed dives, then I saw the Fulham players celebrating and the replay and was like woah. But yeah, it was the keepers fault. When you do shit like this you're just asking for players to try catch you off guard. It's the same thing when keepers come off their line or out of their box because there's nothing going on, then a quick counter-attack from the other team leaves them open and vulnerable and they get lobbed. Saw it a couple of times last season. The play-off final game was pretty boring up until that goal. Don't really care who goes up or not but Brentford are a pretty small team really so it would have been nice to see them in the PL I guess. I think they would have struggled massively though and would have been one of those teams that goes straight back down.
1172  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BitcoinNews.com's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 04, 2020, 06:34:44 PM
0.005BTC sign up?
Not a problem for me, I’m in. Look forward to seeing how many we can get to sign up.

I’d be OK with bigger prizes for less winners, maybe just the top 3?

Just the top 3 win something? It has to be at least top 5, but I'd like to do the top ten as outlined above. It would be nice to make it a bit more competitive and I feel with the way superbru score things it's a very close race with not many points in it, so it would be nice to at least give some consolation prizes for 5-10 spots. If the pool is much bigger this year (which I expect it to be) then it's going to be even harder to win a prize and with having a decent prize pot we can afford to pay bigger prizes. If we take in more than expected I'll probably bump up the top 5 prizes though (or maybe places 2-5 seeing as first place is double second place).

And how about doing a lottery to get one guy in for free.  Should be good to do to get the word out about the pool.  Grin

How would the lottery work?
1173  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BitcoinNews.com's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 04, 2020, 04:36:12 PM
@hilariousetc  i'm thinking the entry fee should be between 0.0035 -0.004, it'll guarantee us a decent pot IF we get at least 40 users, but i think that the entry fee range i mentioned will attract a lot of users

Anything more than that is a bit too much IMO and it'll turn ppl off (me included), 0.005? almost $56 entry fee? damn! i don't wanna skip the next pool  Undecided

PS: thank u, Sportsbet, for sponsoring the next pool!

$56 dollars isn't a lot. The shirts probably retail for more than that. And like I and others have said, it's for an entire season. There's 38 rounds in the Premier League so even at 0.005 that works out at £1.13 a week. Most people probably spend $50 on a meal out or taking their family to the cinema. I bet most gamblers here spend a lot more than £1.13 a week as well, and that's one thing I like about the pool. Nobody is breaking the bank here and you're not gambling with more than you can afford to lose. The difference between 0.005 and 0.004 is currently only £8.58 so if that's the difference between whether you play or not then I don't know what to say. I'm open to feedback from people and will try find a middle ground but $56 entry fee when you can practically win that back with one yellow cap seems a bargain to me. You have to remember the bigger the pot the bigger the prizes for everyone; the lower the entry fee the more people play and the less chance you have of winning something. Once I post the sign-up thread with the current prizes offered I'd be very surprised if we didn't get quite a bit of interest even at 0.005. Currently the only people who know about this are whoever has viewed this thread. I'll give users a day or two to chime in with their opinions but I want to get the Announcement thread up ASAP to maximise exposure and sign-ups and give people time to earn the entry fee if they don't have it yet (PL starts on the 1th so there's still plenty of time). I really don't want to lose people from the pool, especially over a tiny bit, but I'm also doing my best to make it more exiting and lucrative for people. I'll probably message the previous players and see what they're ok with. If we can get 20 previous users ok with 0.005 then I think that should be fine.

Thanks again @hilarious for organising all this !

No problem, but most of the credit should go to jeremypwr and Sportsbet. They really went above and beyond with this one.
1174  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BitcoinNews.com's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 04, 2020, 11:24:44 AM
I am also okay whatever is a decision at the end. although I would rather see more people here, although this may mean a lower entry fee.

Well, you don't want too many users as it would be nice to keep it competitive. If 200 join then there's less people who would win prizes, though the more people that did join I would extend the winning spots to not make it too difficult to win something even if it's just a consolation prize or your money back or something.

btw maybe you can close this and open a new thread, many users do not read here because the thread is limited to pool participants.

I always open a new thread in Games and Rounds every year for sign-ups. This is just the discussion thread. I just wanted to get the opinion of existing users first so I can post the games and rounds thread with the price so people know what they're going to be paying. I'll be collecting the money in straight away this time as well. If the majority of the current users agreed that 0.005 is ok then I'd likely go with that. I might message all the current users later but if people can chime in here that would be better.

Hey why not a bonus for a higher scorer and the worst on the pool something like https://store.superbru.com/collections/uk-europe/products/office-bundle-yellow-cap-wooden-spoon

The trouble is with that is who wants a wooden spoon, and also, the user who just gives up on the pool will probably win it.
1175  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BitcoinNews.com's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 03, 2020, 09:12:05 PM
As I said before, I'll join, no matter what signup fee will be. For me something like £50 would be optimal - bigger sign up fee means bigger pot - more fun to play. But I'm not sure, maybe it will be too much for some people. And it's nice to see BTC going up recently. As you said, 0.005 BTC is really nice number and I don't think it's too much for whole season fun activity Smiley. And it's nice deal that you got from Sportsbet Wink.

Well I'm ok with 0.005 for sure and like you said it's a small price to pay for an entire season of fun, but I'd like to hear from everyone else before I set the price. I'll also speak to the new people who wanted to join and see what price-range they're ok with. I want to get the sign-up thread up and running ASAP but I need to set a price in stone. I'll see what the fiat value is like tomorrow but if a fair few people don't really want to go the more expensive route it'll probably between 0.0035 = £30.52 to 0.004 = £34.87 and I can just round it up or down to £30 to £35. If anyone has any other suggestions feel free to post them.
1176  Economy / Reputation / Re: BitcoinGirl.Club hacked? on: August 03, 2020, 08:53:13 PM
The question now is who hacked his account because that is some pretty shady stuff over some petty shit.
Can you use some Global Mod powers to see if there are IP matches?
I don’t think it would be appropriate for a moderator admin to disclose confidential information to settle a dispute involving no money and only the disclosure of something that makes another forum user look bad.

Whoever hacked his account committed a criminal act by doing so. Admins don't have to disclose whatever info they find, but it should at least be looked into as they could have been stupid and left breadcrumbs leading them to other users. At the very least he needs his account back so they're going to have to look into fairly deeply to get it back to him.

I don’t think it would be appropriate for a moderator admin to disclose confidential information to settle a dispute involving no money and only the disclosure of something that makes another forum user look bad.

It would be very much in forum's best interest to investigate an account hack and ban the perp if possible.
It would be unusual and counterproductive to ban someone hacking accounts. This would only force the person to connect to the forum via alternate means, and it would be difficult to know if it is the same person if he hacks more accounts. It would also make it more difficult to track possible vulnerabilities that need to be closed. It would be better to give the person rope to bang himself with and go to law enforcement with evidence of his crimes if he is causing a problem.

I disagree, besides it would be more of a reputation issue to me and it would be nice to know who to not trust. What if there's clear evidence linking them to an existing user here and they're allowed to go on free with an unblemished rep.
1177  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BitcoinNews.com's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 03, 2020, 08:43:47 PM
Any news on when/if we’ll be starting to think about the structure of next seasons pool? It isn’t that long to go really, if we want a lot of players it might be good to start thinking.

Bump for this thread any way ^^

I was just waiting for confirmation from the sponsor as I didn't want to announce something and get everyone's hopes up for it to fall through. So, the good news is that Sportsbet will be sponsoring the next pool. They've agreed to put 0.15 into the pot, provide a $50 free bet to every yellow cap of the week, and also participants will get a free Watford shirt upon entry if they want one (and subject to availability). Now, my question to you guys is how much should we charge as an entry fee? The prizes this year are much better and may attract a lot of interest so I don't want to make the entry fee too low and I don't want to price people out of joining, but it would be nice to find a middle ground. Whatever the entry fee is is probably worth the shirt alone and all you need to do is win one yellow cap and you're in profit. I've tabled out below the potential entry fee, how much it currently is in GBP and how big the pots will be depending on how many users join. Last year we had a little over 30 so I think we should easily get that minimum this year and I already have a handful of new users ready to join, but we could get many more as the prizes are quite lucrative as I'm sure you will agree. I think if we get 40-50 users I will pay the top ten places out as well, but 5-10 will likely be consolation prizes. I may also do the consolation prizes again for the top 5 highest scorers from a round overall but I'll see how much is left in the pot and don't forget you still get the $50 free bet to the weekly winner. If we only get around 30 users I'll probably just do the top 5 again and top 5 weekly highest round scorers like last year, but I think we should have no problem getting 30 users+ and I'm hoping we can get at least 0.15 from users to take the pot to 0.3.

Potential entry fee and current value:

0.003 = £26.16
0.0035 = £30.52
0.004 = £34.87
0.0045 = £39.26
0.005 = £43.62

0.003 x 30  = 0.09
0.003 x 40 = 0.12
0.003 x 50 = 0.15

0.0035 x 30 = 0.105
0.0035 x 40 = 0.14
0.0035 x 50 = 0.175

0.004 x 30 = 0.12
0.004 x 40 = 0.16
0.004 x 50 = 0.2

0.0045 x 30 0.135
0.0045 x 40 0.18
0.0045 x 50 0.225

0.005 x 30 = 0.15
0.005 x 40 = 0.2
0.005 x 50 = 0.25

Assuming a pot of 0.3 prizes will likely be as follows:

1st 0.1
2nd 0.05
3rd 0.04
4th 0.03
5th 0.02

6th 0.01
7th 0.01
8th 0.01
9th 0.01
10th 0.01

= 0.29

Maybe 0.01 for the highest scorer of a round over-all or use towards paying fees. I'm open to suggestions though. What do you guys think? I'm thinking of aiming for 0.0035 -
0.004, but 0.005 is a much more nicer number  Cheesy.

The question now is who hacked his account because that is some pretty shady stuff over some petty shit.
Can you use some Global Mod powers to see if there are IP matches?

No, only admins. You can ask them to look into it, but they likely wont. Whoever the hacker is they probably used a proxy or something anyway, or at least they would if they were half-smart. I'd be surprised if they were using the same connection that is linked to their other accounts but you never know.

This is a lot to keep track off. If the account was really compromised, why would the user only reveal such information?

What else is there to release, but he obviously had a motive for realising it and has some personal beef with the people involved/exposed.

If this version is true, I would suggest bitcoingirl.club posts their email provider (bpip states that the password was changed via email), as the ease of this supposed back raises some serious privacy concerns.

I'd be interested to know which one it was as well, or how his email was likely compromised.

Just because he signs a message it doesn’t prove anything. I could do something bad, claim I was hacked & sign a message from an address owned by me, linked to this account since 2014. What does that prove?

You're right, it doesn't, but lets look at this objectively. Does he have any real reason to so this, and then spam message various people about it? I can't be certain for sure but I'd lean towards his account being compromised in some way as it doesn't really make sense to me why he would do this. Of course I could be wrong but he knew he would make a lot of enemies/lose friends here and also probably compromise the reputation of his account in the process. Take note of nutildah's post above as well about the smiley etc. I think he just got stung here. The question now is who hacked his account because that is some pretty shady stuff over some petty shit.

I agree with guys who are saying that single game gives advantage to underdogs. It's just 90 minutes of football. While in 2 leg series, teams with better and more deep squad have advantage.
And I agree about Atalnta, maybe I will even make bet for their win. It's enough to see how they are playing after restart - 6 wins in 6 games. While PSG didn't played for so long, it will be difficult for them to return in action. BTW, Lyon are same situation. Otherwise I wouldn't write them off against Juventus.
And single leg fixtures is bad for our pool - it means there will be less games, what makes too difficult to change our positions. Now it's impossible to reach @big_daddy
What's annoying though is that they've seemingly arranged all the games to kick off at the same time. What's the point in that? There's four games kicking off at the same time on the 12th. Now we've gotta choose which game. They should have played them all on different days to maximise viewing.
Where did you find it. I see that all quarterfinals will be played at different days, on 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th.

Quarters might be but not the rest of the games before it:

I would have liked to watch all those matches. I'll probably watch the City/Madrid and Barca/Napoli as I think those will be more entertaining/closer.

Just giving this thread a little bumpski to get us back in the CL zone  Smiley

2 matches next Friday -

Juventus v Lyon - can’t see Juve losing this, but if Lyon do lose , it will be their first season without European football since 96/97 - maybe an extra incentive ?

Man City v Real Madrid - really tough to call this one, gotta assume pedigree will take Real through ?

What about City's pedigree? They've been on fire recently as well. I wouldn't be surprised if Real went through but it's going to be a hell of a tough game for them playing away and also with a goal deficit to get past. Isn't Ramos suspended as well. Either way my money is on City here.
