January 2, 2012, Occupy Nigeria protest began in Nigeria in response to the fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government of President Goodluck Jonathan. Protests took place across the country, including the Nigerian Embassy in London, New York and Italy.
1162  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Boko Haram and their reign of terror on: June 16, 2014, 12:36:09 PM
Boko Haram is, without question, a danger to all people who do not accept the false interpretations of the written works of the prophet Kutam. It is however, just one small part of a orthodox movement within a religion which has the objective of dominating the world. Most Muslims would like to see this ambition achieved through peaceful means. However, there are many, who despite a good education, hold violence for a justified means to an end.
1163  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Delegates begin planning for changes to U.S. Constitution on: June 16, 2014, 12:30:53 PM
the problem with the constitution and amendments early on is that they left out a key phrase

"And the courts shall make no rulings"
Depends upon what the meaning of "is" is ... "Shall" has been held by some courts to be subject to conjecture. In my state, "shall" and "may" have been replaced with "will" and "will not" in legislation where discretion is neither intended nor desired.

I can also suggest you to start resume writing. Its a home-based services. There is a good chance you'll have plenty of work to keep you busy. Many people are opting for the professional approach to having their resume written, in hopes that it helps up their chances of being hired. Its also a good source of earning in this bad economy.

"Debunking Economics" by Steve Keen is worth looking at first, before you read other
economics texts.

In the same vein, a Warren Buffet quote:
"If you get into a poker game, and after twenty minutes you haven't figured out who the patsy is,
YOU are the patsy"
First off, it’s fantastic seeing someone pay attention to Steve Keen’s book. I have been a fan for years and it is no coincidence that he won an award for being the person who most accurately predicted the financial crisis.

"Economics in One Lesson".  Written by Henry Hazlitt and published in 1946.

This book was a great disappointment as it turned into an anti government rant very quickly. It is a shame that it could have a title that is so misleading.
The book deals with the basic items of controversy between the libertarian ant the Keynesian school of economics. It strongly supports the former with convincing arguments. Nevertheless it is not a dogmatic libertarian peace of work as it admits the problems of capitalistic progress. Personally i feel impressed of the quality of arguments and the clarity of the conclusions. Overall it is a magnificent book, strongly recommended!

Thanks for the great advice everyone. I think I will use my funds to try start a small side business! I'm not too sure about Forex and don't like playing with stocks .
And I realized what Sana said about fixed deposit and inflation rates is right. I would be able to get higher returns through other forms of investments. I don't really mind the risk as long as it is reasonable.
Nice to hear that finally you have decided your goal and will invest in right direction. If you don't mind i would like to ask in which sector you are going to start your small business.
1168  Economy / Economics / Re: Solution to poverty - Socialism or Capitalism? on: June 16, 2014, 11:08:59 AM
A socialist society eliminates the unjust relationship between labor and capital that gives rise to poverty. By taking away the capitalists’ right to exploit labor, the working class is free to decide how the fruits of our labor are used. Needless to say, under this system no one will go without the basic necessities of life.

1170  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Lack of Major Wars May Be Hurting Economic Growth on: June 16, 2014, 10:22:55 AM
One important point of the article is that war is good for innovation. In war, people unite around common goals, and are willing to sacrifice in a way that is impossible in peacetime.
One might attribute this to the willingness to abolish patents in wartime, like the American airplane industry was forced to do during the first world war. Since the state is the one concerned with fighting the war, and the state is the only actor effectively able to abolish patents (since the state is the one granting them in the first place), it is not odd that war is the only thing which can effect this change.
It has been argued that patents, as a whole, is a retardant to innovation. These historical facts seems to bear this argument out.

1171  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Lack of Major Wars May Be Hurting Economic Growth on: June 14, 2014, 12:35:44 PM
War does not increase wealth, it transfers it to a few, with much attendant damage and destruction that diminishes the whole.

At one time it was inconceivable that economic growth could exist without slavery. So too with war and all other non-productive forms of economic activity. Given the cleverness with which men destroy each other there may be innovations with other applications, but on the whole the result is pain, misery, and deprivation for most.

TV is also an event that changed the world. The first television set was built in 1928 and was a very simple invention; it consisted of a disk and a light and required only a little bit of electricity. Very few Americans owned a television set until the years following World War II. The progression of the picture quality of televisions was quick, engineers worked rigorously to improve it. In 1939, the first nationwide television broadcasts aired. And from 1945-1948 television sales increased 500%. The first widespread broadcast was in 1954. Today over 110 million households have televisions.

1175  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What happens in the government if Bitcoin takes over? on: June 14, 2014, 11:20:19 AM
Most governments get their money from taxes. If these become impossible to collect, how will the government support itself? They would no longer have control over any currency. Would BTC taxes have to be enforced? Should an alternative be sought? How can a government survive without money?

I'd like to see people's opinions on anything related to this, as I feel that most forum members are better versed in such themes than I am, and I'm open to what everyone has to say.

A sales tax would make sense. Businesses collect when you make a purchase and send it to the government just like a lot of states do right now.
Your right, if government can't tax bitcoin than will tax the goods and the  services you purchase with bitcoin. At this point, government won't have any issue to get the money from tax,but in the future, if probably will exist only virtual currency’s they will come out with ways to tax/collect money.
1176  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What good things has Obama had since he is elected ? on: June 14, 2014, 11:07:59 AM
Barack Obama has executed a whole lot of tasks.. However, the best of the lot is the killing of terrorist Osama Bin Laden and the end of war in Iraq.
That’s not true , he didn’t kill Osama Bin Laden , SWAT and FBI team did that , but yes that happened when he came to the office . But what you think about starting this war with Libya ? Is it the same like with Iraq just few miles difference same goal same oil same shits happening .
If you don’t know much about Obama that’s not the reason to make him look bad . He did some good things really take a look . and then judge ! But if you are president some people are going to like you some are not . That’s normal fact !

Proof you can please only some people some of times .

President Reagan's philosophy when it came to dealing with America's enemies was "Peace through strength."

That's a good philosophy to have, I think.

Except it led to the support of genocide in Guatemala.

Reagan was really pretty bad at foreign affairs, very inhumane, often downright illegal, and started off fairly poorly at being able to manage the Soviet Union.

Aside from direct support for death squads in Latin America, and the support of the genocide against the Mayans in Guatemala, we also directly funded a devastating civil war in Angola, fomented instability in the DR Congo, pretty much stood alone in recognizing and supporting apartheid in South Africa, acted rashly and with little understanding in Lebanon, lost the momentum of Camp David by ignoring the entire thing, botched the handling of Gaddafi, brought the US recklessly close to conflict with the Soviet Union (until he reversed course), and was generally fairly sloppy in his foreign affairs dealings. I might not rank him as bad as Nixon and Kissinger, but he engaged in a lot of immoral diplomacy that Clinton, George W. Bush, Obama and perhaps even HW Bush couldn't have even dreamed of getting away with (though Bush W. tried).

He had zero foreign policy experience going into the presidency but simultaneously had very strong feelings concerning it and the result was fairly disastrous for global stability at first. It was only really after he got caught with the Iran-Contra scandal that he got his ducks in a row foreign policy wise (so for most of his presidency he was largely inept).

One of his largest foreign policy successes was in Afghanistan and that move left the Taliban in power via his "whatever we need to do to win" strategy.
1178  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Favorite political figure? on: June 14, 2014, 08:28:45 AM
That's because he was the most recent trans-formative president. Before him was FDR. It's always a love/hate relationship.
1179  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Let's face it -- just because you CAN have children doesn't mean you SHOULD. on: June 13, 2014, 04:22:06 PM
What about the woman in California that was arrested for leaving her child in a car save so she could go to an interview she used all resources and still no one would help watch her child. Some people have no other resources. but at the sametime were in the hell was the live n girlfriend and she did know how could she not. Chaining a child is abuse, were is the mother or grandparents. Not the whole story.

There are big differences between that Christianity and Islam. they are able for compensations but at a much smaller scale than it actually happens. and from the religious point of view Christianity is weaker than Islam, much weaker, proof being their status today.
