121  Other / Meta / Re: Some good users awakened by Yobit on: October 22, 2019, 09:42:27 AM
Would be appreciated if you also noted that I recently verified my staked address (see profile) to prove I wasn’t hacked. In case anyone else has any doubts (cause obviously private keys can be sold!), I can verify using ID that correlates to my physical address given to other members of this forum in the past Smiley Happy to do that for anyone on DT1.

^^ To be fair, adding onto that, I’ve also had recent discussions with other old bitcointalk members and showed knowledge of stuff from years and years ago that is pretty much unfakeable Wink

I didn’t come back because of Yobit, though, I came back and just happened to see its signature campaign.

It's been a while since I painted, but I've been meaning to get some canvases to do some painting anyway and this competition finally gives me a kick up the backside to order some. So I've ordered some, hopefully I'll have something to show after a few weeks - it's definitely not something I intend to rush! I just hope my entry won't be buried amongst all the others, especially as it will probably come fairly late into the competition.
123  Other / Archival / Re: CryptoPVP - Automated Trading Platform - We look for free users on: October 21, 2019, 08:27:39 PM
"Free users" - I mean, it's not really a privilege for you to allow people to deposit money in your completely unknown exchange. Your post is really vague regarding what some of your features are exactly. "Revenue sharing" - of what revenue exactly? Plus the fact that some of your key points sound pretty buzzword-y, "be a leader for your people"...I wouldn't touch your site with a 10-foot pole with how you've presented it. Most of what you're advertising is already around.
124  Economy / Services / Re: CryptoTalk.Org Signature Campaign [Yobit Panel] on: October 21, 2019, 07:39:29 PM
Update: limit from now is only 10 posts / day
Good change. Should mean that we see a very sharp drop in the amount of spam that is cluttering the forum, which had really been starting to become a major eyesore. Also, I can't imagine that it is exactly cheap to pay out 20 posts a day for 300+ participants...
125  Other / Meta / Re: Why don't you stop SPAMMERS yourself, admins? #RaiseYourVoice on: October 21, 2019, 06:55:45 PM
This will just violate their freedom of speech and it's really not one of the necessary change for them to improve. Banning them or prohibiting them to certain topics and sections won't give them a chance to start improving their posts, so I think what we should instead strive for to do is to heavily enforce on reporting low quality posts and spam so that these spammers will know that the forum doesn't accept and welcome these kinds of low quality content and they will be starting themselves to try and improve their post quality.
Freedom of speech to spam up a private forum, are you serious mate? No-one has any rights to communicate on a private platform, they have to abide by certain guidelines in order to participate here. One of those guidelines is to not post garbage on a regular basis and to actually contribute something to the discussions they respond to. Spamming is a serious problem right now.
126  Economy / Reputation / Re: HitBTC Newbie Flag on: October 21, 2019, 06:29:09 PM
There are sufficient amount of threads to red-flag every single major exchange, and this is due to theymoses idiotic policies. I contest this flag.
I appreciate the opposing opinion. Could you elaborate on what you mean by the idiotic policies?

Edit: Obviously, I appreciate that there are lots of threads that are made by people who accuse exchanges of scamming the moment they encounter a withdrawal issue. This yellow flag is due to the fact that these accusations persist off-site and it would seem that they are increasing in frequency.
127  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Crowdfunding a woodland preservation trust. on: October 21, 2019, 04:18:05 PM
Who would manage the site? If you plan to establish a small museum and an area for members to park then you will obviously need a member of staff or two on site at all times while it's open. Would you plan to do this yourself, taking a salary? Would you hire someone else to do it? Who would be involved in those hiring decisions if so?
128  Other / Meta / Re: Signature Campaigns causing lifeless posts in Gambling section on: October 21, 2019, 03:33:21 PM
Honestly it's depressing reading posts from a lot of people of all kinds of ranks now. It seems the problem with signature campaigns has only been getting worse in recent years. Now you have many, many Hero Member accounts and Legendary accounts which post completely lifeless things.

Earlier in this thread, I said that the pattern looks something like this:
It’s pretty common. Say for instance the topic is {technology_name} and a recent occurrence to do with it, these people will generally latch onto the name and say things like “{tech_name} is very interesting, it could be very good for bitcoin, I will be watching {tech_name} with interest”.

Here's an example of a thread made in one of the Altcoin sections:

And here's three responses from Hero Members which honestly hurt to read and add very little to any kind of 'discussion' - not that the thread topic really fosters that anyway.

In all of these spammy posts the common theme running through them is that they latch onto some keyword from the OP or title, in this case IEO, and just say generic crap. The first post addresses the topic of the OP but it is clearly pretty low quality and just a combination of vague statements about how IEO is good, I'll be watching what happens with IEO in the future, etc. The second is a pretty poor post, doesn't address the original topic. Third post has the same problem.

Honestly, it's depressing nowadays to go through the forums and see so many crap posts. I think part of the problem is that it seems the Cryptotalk campaign is moderated solely by yahoo? He is a very good campaign manager but I don't think anyone can reasonably be expected to moderate 300+ participants on their own and the relevant sticky thread about signature campaigns does say something to that effect. Another moderator (not necessarily a 'manager' per se) for that campaign should at the very least be brought on - if they can afford to spend whatever they're spending right now, they can afford to pay another person to check posts.
129  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Earn money by paying with crypto and saving on costs on: October 21, 2019, 01:45:11 PM
Can you stop using Project Development as a place to announce your service? You posted this thread in Project Development originally and it was appropriately moved to Service Announcements. Now you have created another thread in Project Development so that you can announce it twice. That's not what this section is for. You have a commercial, developed service, nothing in anything you have written anywhere indicates that it is a project in development.

This thread shouldn't have even been created. It would be appropriate in Service Announcements, but it rehashes what you have already put in your announcement thread without adding anything new.

Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong channel.

Our project if not yet finished and is currently under development which is why i've choose to post it here to get feedback. When it was moved to service announcement channel last time there were comments concerning that it was not appropriate for that channel since the service is not even available yet.
You should make it explicitly clear. Your thread right now is just an advertisement. "Use our website to get gift cards at a discount", etc. If it's actively in development and not yet 'commercial' per se then you should be making that clear in your thread, rather than making it one big ad. This section is for talking about your progress in development, asking for ideas, feedback on sections, where you are exactly, etc. It's not a section for only saying 'come check us out'.

Edit: Looking at your other thread I don't see any comments concerning that it's not appropriate. The service is available, just in early access. But a thread titled 'Earn money by paying with crypto and saving on costs' - if you just saw that title, would you think a thread like that belongs in Service Announcements or Project Development?

I'm still convinced that your thread shouldn't be in this section, gl with your service though.
130  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Earn money by paying with crypto and saving on costs on: October 21, 2019, 01:30:25 PM
Note to moderators: In response to my concerns the OP edited their post to address that it wasn't really related to Project Development, just a second announcement. I still think that there should be either a thread in Project Development on this topic or one in Service Announcements - one or the other. Not both.

Previous post: Can you stop using Project Development as a place to announce your service? You posted this thread in Project Development originally and it was appropriately moved to Service Announcements. Now you have created another thread in Project Development so that you can announce it twice. That's not what this section is for. 131  Other / Meta / Re: Beginners Guide to all facets & quirks of Bitcointalk on: October 21, 2019, 01:27:48 PM
Good topic but already there are many threads about Merits, Activities, Ranks, Trust and Signature campaigns etc. Creating a duplicate thread will make Newbies to get confused about which one to refer. They can easily see the pinned posts on every board of the forum. The pinned post is more than enough to know the rules of the forum and how it works.

Hi, I respect your opinion but I don't agree with it. You say 'which one to refer' as if I'm trying to make this an authoritative source. I'm not, I just condensed the explanations (some are extremely long, sometimes needlessly so) into one thread of simple explanations of all the key aspects. Newbies don't bother reading all the different relevant threads on every section of the forum.

Part of the purpose of this thread is so I just need to link people who need help to a single thread only. I don't think it can cause any 'confusion' especially as everything in this thread is objectively true.
132  Economy / Reputation / Re: Did I spam? Report me right now. #RMRN #RaiseYourVoice on: October 21, 2019, 12:44:45 PM
A bump just to let everyone know that the challenge has begun and I have updated the thread with some interesting content. I hope this bump will not be considered a way to spam.  Smiley
"I'm not a spammer" -> bumps his thread after 28 minutes.

How can you make a thread claiming that you're not a spammer and then basically farm post count straight after? There is no possible reason that you would need to bump your thread 28 minutes after creating it...
133  Other / Meta / Re: Signature Campaigns causing lifeless posts in Gambling section on: October 20, 2019, 10:06:48 PM
These lifeless posts happen everywhere. It’s a mixture of the poor control of the English language that these people have - likely due to how far signature campaign payments can go in third world countries - and, of course, the fact that they are forcing themselves to post in order to meet requirements.

It’s pretty common. Say for instance the topic is {technology_name} and a recent occurrence to do with it, these people will generally latch onto the name and say things like “{tech_name} is very interesting, it could be very good for bitcoin, I will be watching {tech_name} with interest”.

I normally report the posts which aren’t fully on-topic.

Due to constant reports of HitBTC freezing many different customer's funds, regardless of KYC compliance, and failing to unfreeze them within a timeframe that most would find reasonable, along with failing to uphold promises in the past, I believe that there are enough red flags regarding their exchange that it is important newbies are warned of the risks of using their exchange. While they may not necessarily be 'scamming' their behavior has the potential to cause people financial harm and newbies should be warned of it.

Example 1 - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=378827.msg51069211#msg51069211 - Thewowman777 alleges he has 0.83 BTC of funds frozen. His post has many links to Twitter reports of others complaining about frozen funds. (May 2019)

Example 2 - https://www.ccn.com/bitcoin-exchange-hitbtc-freezes-customers-accounts-ahead-of-proof-of-keys-event/ - HitBTC freezes many customer's accounts. Speculation was that it was in the run-up to an event of mass withdrawals.

Example 3 - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5194434.0 - ytrezq alleges that he has had an account locked for a full year with a significant amount of money inside.

Example 4 - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=705154.0 - HitBTC, in 2014, offers users $100 for a full review of their site, and fails to follow through with it after reviews are made

Example 5 - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=378827.msg52287115#msg52287115 - JollyGood alleges that they are faking their trading figures and skipping over complaints in order to selectively scam

135  Economy / Gambling / Re: Stake.com | The Most Popular Bitcoin Casino | V2 & New games out now! 👽 on: October 20, 2019, 06:14:59 PM
Just out of curiosity Stunna - might be documented somewhere else, I see that you're an "advisor" for PrimeDice and Stake now. I assume that means you're no longer a major owner in those sites anymore? I assume that you still have some kind of stake in them. Just curious to know who runs the websites now.
136  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Buy now or wait for Bitcoin? on: October 20, 2019, 05:52:13 PM
It's my belief that DCA (Dollar Cost Averaging) is the smartest thing you can do if you want to invest in Bitcoin and minimize your exposure to variance. You take a set amount of money, say $1200, and you drop it evenly into the market over intervals. For instance $100 a month for a year.

That way you average your exposure to variance on the day you invest, and instead you effectively get Bitcoin at the 'average' price over whatever period you DCA over.
137  Economy / Reputation / Re: List of banned participants in the Cryptotalk Campaign on: October 20, 2019, 03:43:52 PM
There are 500+ participants in this campaign and 300 or so banned.
Sheesh, is that 500 participants not banned as of right now, or 500 participants total of which 300 are banned? Either way that's an insane amount of participants, I wonder how they can fund that. They're investing an insane amount of money into getting their forum off the ground.

I still think there should be a Merit restriction, either x total or y in the past 60 days, something like that. Would probably make your job significantly easier but I suppose that it's not your decision to make but Yobit's instead.
138  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Buy now Bitcoin today on: October 20, 2019, 03:38:29 PM
It's all well and good using previous behaviour of the price graph to predict future behaviour until the "pattern" gets broken. People come up with all kinds of patterns based on the fact that it happened once or twice before. I'm not a believer in trying to identify shapes in graphs like falling wedges and the like.

To people who have no idea what's going on and are reading this: if you really want to invest then use DCA (Dollar Cost Averaging). It does a better job of shielding you from drops, there is no telling if the price will go up or down any time soon.
139  Other / Meta / Re: Database Error and slow forum on: October 20, 2019, 03:20:07 PM
I was having this problem for last 1 hour or so. Anyways i have found a solution to this.
Press CTRL + F5 and the page will load normally.
Neither CTRL+Shift+R or CTRL+F5 fixes it for me, and I don't want to keep performing hard reloads and possibly increasing the strain (even if it's a negligible effect). It's not a huge deal, just looks pretty ugly.
140  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Looking for web app ideas on: October 20, 2019, 03:16:44 PM
Okay, I've got a kind of weird idea but could be cool: A webapp which allows you to see how the most popular Bitcoin-related websites have changed in popularity throughout the years, where you can see when exactly old websites faded into obscurity and new websites became popular.

Something like this:

But the websites on the vertical axis would come from a mixture of a pre-determined list of well-known websites (bitcointalk, bitcoin.org, bitstamp, bitcoin wiki, etc etc) along with what the user chooses to add to the list, and the horizontal axis could be something fetchable like Alexa ranking. There could be some arrows to let you change the month and the chart would update as appropriate. Maybe a bit of a weird idea but could be cool? I'm sure there are appropriate libraries you could find for producing the actual chart itself.
