WEll, everyone have fun with their overpriced 20nm miners, i donīt think you will ever make it to ROI city.

The only one getting anything out of this is KNC, as they can now deploy 20nm on a large scale in their Data Center.

They will probably set up the chips at a lower clock speed and higher efficiency there, as i donīt really think that they have managed to build SUCH a shitty design on 20nm that it only gets 0.7W//GH.

If they had, well it is purely a waste of Silicon.

I bet Bitfury is laughing at them right now from atop of his mountain of 55nm miners on 0.78W/GH and 1/5th of the NRE.
1222  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: June 20, 2014, 07:26:48 AM
Does anyone know how much power and maintenance KnC will charge for their cloudmining?
1223  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: *** GHash.IO mining pool official page *** on: June 20, 2014, 07:03:46 AM
Other pools just need to step up their game and offer merged mining of atleast NMC for 0% fee.

As of today, gh.io is one of the best pools and therefore have the most miners.

p2pool is always nice too nad it supports the basic bitcoin idea, by further decentralizing the network.

Where is middle east node located?
1225  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - Best W/GH/s ratio, Best $/GH/s ratio on: June 19, 2014, 05:33:44 PM

Hosting companies DO NOT pass electricity savings to customers. if you compare prices in WA-they are essentially the same despite the fact that they pay 2c/electricity.
Electrical savings transmission simply does not WORK!
Sure it does. Ask advania in iceland how much they charge for power when you supply the fully populated container.
They pay 4 ct for power, they will bill you 5 ct.

Instant savings. Grin

advania quotes $160/mo per Sp-10, this is much much more than 5c/kw (it should be $44 in electricity /mo at this rate), so I don't know where you get your numbers.
Of course, they should charge small amount for everything else, but not 3 times more than electricity.

Unfortunately you'll never find a co-location DC that will host an SP10 for $150 or less. I have to pay $150/month for my SP10 since I could never run it in the house in the summer. Nothing I could do. I do have full access to the miner, for that price I better. It's not only the electricity, but to keep it cool as well. Some may find $150/month way too much, but if you had no other option then show us those low prices. Smiley

Again to avoid any confusion:

The above estimate is for units hosted inside a Datatank container, whichs is a form of modular DC utilizing immersion cooling. In fact you can get even lower power prices, around 30$/kW and month.

IT DOES NOT apply to normal hosting environments with aircooled units.

It however specifically applies to units optimized for immersion cooling. Upfront costs are typically 0.5-0.7 $/W for the Datatank container, fluid and PSUs.

These are also reusable when upgrading to the next generation gear (however, it should be hard to find a buyer for used immersion cooling miners).

I previously warned everyone who wasnīt willing to do his refund in this thread.

While i do not want to feel "Schadenfreude", I donīt necessarily have too much pitty for anyone lacking basic maths skills.

The whole KNC cloud thing really looks like a massively shady move.
Any credibility KNC might have retained before this should surely be gone by now.
1227  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [ANN] Central Cavern P2Pool Node Launched! on: June 19, 2014, 04:20:32 PM
No stress.

As stated p2pool plus bitcoin core plus system uses only 2.5GB, so 4GB should be plenty Smiley
1228  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - Best W/GH/s ratio, Best $/GH/s ratio on: June 19, 2014, 04:17:57 PM
Can anyone speculate why KNC, who did the same thing in that they took a known design and shrunk it without changing anything, took 6 months to start shipping but Spondoolies is able to do it in a month and a half?

I get that BFL went with some new design to get their power down, so that is why they are super late, and Black Arrow is late because they couldn't figure out how to assemble their miners.  But what happened with KNC that it took that long for them to ship?  It seems amazing to me that Spondoolies is able to do this so quickly compared to everyone else.
KnC uses the still experimental 20nm node. That is the holdup.
Spondoolies is able to achieve a better efficiency using the very well known and widely used 28nm process, as their design is superior.

Does that answer your questions?
1229  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [ANN] Central Cavern P2Pool Node Launched! on: June 19, 2014, 04:09:28 PM
I was just wondering whether there would be a chance we would manage to get to 5TB of traffic on the upcoming Iceland node.

However, i think that is pretty unlikely even with full access of p2pool nodes and a big amount of bitcoin core traffic.
1230  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: How to run your own P2Pool in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with merged mining on: June 19, 2014, 04:03:09 PM
While memory used to be more expensive, it is stil nice to know what the actual requirements are.

I would therefore think it is fair to say that you should get away with a 3 GB Ram VPS safely.

Most VPS providers allow you to exceed the allocated memory by atleast 10-20% anyway Wink

Welcome on the node, new user Smiley

Murdof, how much of your RAM are you actually using on p2pool and Bitcoin client (aswell as the server OS)?
1233  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [ANN] Central Cavern P2Pool Node Launched! on: June 19, 2014, 01:36:37 PM
Ah okay, didnīt know that.

So it basically is very luck dependant.

Another question: How much traffic are you generating on your node?
1234  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [460 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: June 19, 2014, 01:32:11 PM
Wow, received that nice donation.

Feels good to get donations Smiley
1235  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [ANN] Central Cavern P2Pool Node Launched! on: June 19, 2014, 01:09:30 PM
I think namecoin gives you around 0.5% extra income, so this should be enough to cover the 20€/month expense (or whatever it takes).

I donīt know how long the setup takes, but it would be a "donation" of your working time most likely. Again, i would give a small donation to help cover the cost of the server.

I thought NMC wouldnīt be too difficult to set up, but i donīt know.

P2pool doesnīt only help decentralize mining, but also helps build reliable Bitcoin nodes, as every server has to run the full copy of the Bitcoin client.
1236  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [ANN] Central Cavern P2Pool Node Launched! on: June 19, 2014, 10:32:59 AM
I donīt know the cost of a server, apart from the one i recommended for Iceland.

If e.g the Iceland node ends up with 10TH and you can get ~20$ a month from merged mining NMC (currently~3TH for that) or DVC, i would think a voluntary donation would be nice.
I would definately send a donation to cover part of the Iceland node cost.

It also depends on wether you would use the server for anything else, if you need a server with residual ~400GB of storage anyway then it becomes "profitable" quite quickly.

Finally, i think you would probably receive more in donations with a 0% pool fee in comparison to a pool fee.
You will also receive higher donations when people are still able to hear after visiting the pool page Wink

Is it only me ore did we all receive a small donation for mining on p2pool today?

1cavern address has been receiving small donations too, this is something i would like to know the origin of, as no-one has emailed or advised that they have donated and its not mined btc as it confirms right away.

I'll need to look into this further.
I think the donation went to everyone who is mining on p2pool.... Somebody just donated to the address and every p2pool user got a payout Smiley
1238  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: H/w Hosting Directory & Reputation on: June 19, 2014, 09:57:41 AM
Thanks RoadStress, you beat me to it.

No problem. By the way I'm assuming that since we pay a price per kW we can change equipment as much as we want as long as we use the same power as we paid. Is that right?
Presumably, if you donīt do it every month just to annoy them Wink
1239  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [ANN] Central Cavern P2Pool Node Launched! on: June 19, 2014, 09:54:03 AM
I think the main source of dead shares was the previous miner (who didnīt understand PPLNS), who also had a higher reject rate

Everyone who is mining on the node now seems to have a good ping.
