I've tested a few p2pool nodes before... some don't provide work fast enough

not latency related either... CPU issue ^^ like stated above    (on the actual machine running p2pool, that is)

2) 7850

I don't mess with litecoins, but there is a great deal on a 7850 right now:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131482

Promo Code AFFW85VGA

with a $30 mail-in rebate, makes it $100 with free shipping

i have a powercolor 7950 that i used to use to mine bitcoins (the "one fan" design), it could run at 1250/160, temp never went above 70oC

invest in that, you can pretend like you're using it for mining and just resell it on ebay instead
I would never recommend mining on any GPU that had a non-ref cooler that only had one fan. You're just asking to melt that sucker.

hmm, I have on a lot.  I guess it would be a bit tougher if you're going litecoins and can't drop the memory to 120-160..    but even in 100oF ambient, none of my cards ever went over 80o.  they're rated for 95oC, the 79xx anyway

just figured I'd give it a shot.. video cards = ebay obv
1385  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GPU mining profit vs. ebay depreciation on: August 08, 2013, 12:15:32 AM
Same people buying GPU's to mine now.

well, I haven't looked at the eBay prices for the 'USB Eruptors', but at least several times a week you can find deals on GPUs where you could turn on a profit on eBay right when they hit your doorstep & after fees

since i don't know the resale value of the USB Eruptor, I wouldnt pay more than $10 for one from a ROI perspective

btw, you can buy 7790's that can do 330mhash for $80

I can't find any 7790 card that sold that cheap the ones I see go for $100-150, when you can buy an USB stick for about $60.  I sold all of my USB sticks at a profit on eBay.  eBay buyers are not the smartest, heck I've sold a lot of ChromeCasts for retardedly high prices.
hmmm, yeah, looks like the cheapest is $105 now.

Total: 3100+ khash/s @ 1100+ watt at the WALL!

BUT getting 7x 7xxx cards working is already very tricky and the the 7790 driver makes this probably impossible.  Cry

I hope you are using it for gaming also since you could buy USB Eruptors for 10% of the cost of that computer and do the same amount of work.
AFAIK the eruptors, like any other ASIC, are SHA256-only, and being that he measured his machine in 'khash/s', he's doing an sCrypt coin - meaning, your USB eruptors are useless for 10% the cost.
depreciation on 7xxx cards should be a lot less than the eruptors as well.  i don't suspect crazy people will be around paying $50 for them still in a few weeks

btw, 7950 for $203 AR @

All things considered, I may move to or just set up an office in Mobile, Ala, where electric is still .08, and Sirloin isn't $23/lb(Barring Safeway's GMO Beef) Anything over 3 jupiters would pay for the rent just in electrical cost offset  @ 650/mo for typical office space)

energy cost in Alabama is above the national average

the cheapest cost of living when giving extra weight to utility prices would be in texas and oklahoma
http://www.alabamapower.com/residential/pricing-rates/standard-rate-family-dwelling.asp
.08... national avg is .12

EDIT  DID you say Houston is .08 as well? cool, anyone near Ft. Worth with an estimate as well?

hmm, i'm not sure about the accuracy of that site.  'alabamapower', probably some BS.

i live in a rural area in NE texas, my elec ranges from 6.8c to 8.8c, with it being at 7.3c right now.  it's highly dependent on natural gas prices...  which probably won't go up a whole lot, considering the new shale fields being discovered every month

1392  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Not worth mining any longer for anyone not already in. Am I wrong? on: August 07, 2013, 02:15:01 AM
ROI achieved on Jalapenos received in early July, including electricity, interest, and tax (yes, income tax on income earned).  Paid with USD$ and have now received more USD$ than previous input.  Mission accomplished.

Anyone buying an ASIC today needs to have fast delivery.  BFL will in the very best scenario ship new 5Gh orders made today by the end of September.

just out of curiosity, that means you sold the bitcoins for USD then, correct?

i was under the assumption that bitcoins themselves weren't counted as income
1393  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTB Mining Computer Components on: August 07, 2013, 01:47:06 AM
usually with posts like these, the prices offered are lowballed to hell

so if i had some PSUs and motherboards I wanted to sell, would you offer, say, the going eBay price -25%?
1394  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Common Mining Cards Comparison Chart on: August 07, 2013, 01:42:34 AM
amazon warehouse deals has a bunch of 7970's @ $250 right now

i guess i could take a kill-a-watt to that computer, leave it for about an hour w/ just one gfx card and idling....  then put in the other cards, start them all mining, leave it there for 24 hrs..  then that reading should be 99% accurate.  i guess if you have a motherboard that has an onboard gpu, it'd be a bit less watts (re: i'd have to have one 7790 in there for my computer to work.  i don't imagine they use much idling though)
1395  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoind taking up 380megs or more.. ?? on: August 07, 2013, 01:00:33 AM
After all the data was downloaded the memory usage sits at around 380megs .. any reason this is so high w/o anything going on yet.. ?

transactions stored in memory, orphans

1396  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: I think I'm done GPU mining on: August 07, 2013, 12:51:44 AM
Do you think that GPUs will now start costing less, with less people buying them?
No.  It is clear we aren't even 1% of AMD sales, even AMD can confirm that.  The bitcoin community is incredibly tiny.  It may seem like there are a lot of people into Bitcoin if you are like me and read about it all the time, subscribed to the subreddits, on this forum, see it in the news, etc.  It's just not that big of a community, though.

The price of used GPU's might go down directly on this forum, though.

used 5970's were $400 each on ebay two months ago, now they are $200

i'm pretty sure that's bitcoin related

as for new cards, if not for bitcoins, i'd buy a geforce card, ofc they'll drop in price
1397  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: what is the best mining hardware for 1000 us dollars on: August 07, 2013, 12:42:52 AM
The topic says it all/ I am an old returning miner. Had 2 HD 6970 and 4 HD 6950 on three machines.

They have been there for since 2009.all in all good investment with its ups and downs.but wondering what's best hardware now
For 1000 $  or basic miners or basic mining shares ?

Considering the HD cards are available in local market and I guess can be sold for fifth the price when used

nothing right now

if you think the price is going to go up, then you should just buy bitcoins at market rate

people are paying about 5x value for ASIC stuff still
1398  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [3500GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: August 07, 2013, 12:39:26 AM
At 800mhash, you should expect to find one share every 24hrs or so...  then with a 1% fee, you'd expect to get credited with a share every 100 days
