Chen = Zhou.  There is no evidence to suggest otherwise.
While I agree, one could also state
Quote
mlawrence = Zhou.  There is no evidence to suggest otherwise.
or even
Quote
mlawrence = phantomcircit.  There is no evidence to suggest otherwise.
or the most probable one
Quote

Except none of their accounts were used. Zhou's account was used.

And there is no evidence linking mlawrence to the theft of half a million dollars either.   Wink
Actually there is. While ZT at least tries to pay back the funds, the overall impression from mlawrence (and a few others) is that he tries to prevent exactly this from happening. Now the only one in the world that does not like a payback to happen is the actually thief himself, so...

143  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [BitcoinMax.com] Paying 6.9% per week... Small accounts welcome. on: July 31, 2012, 01:27:39 PM
I am waiting on a withdrawl ,not thats its any of your business
I may have put more cash in but after the vegas bullshit it pretty
confirmed that this is a scam
lol, it has actually been confirmed that it is not a scam, but anyway.
I like it that so much people are FUDing around all over the forum. Because without them and all their FUD pirate would have lowered the interest rate long ago.
144  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PrismCoin: 3d etching BTC address in Crystal on: July 31, 2012, 01:02:14 PM
Keep in mind that these kind of things only protect against some personal disaster. If there is an epic solar storm and all computers are fried the blockchain will be gone and the private key useless.

Which is why I keep a printed copy of the blockchain.

You did print out 3 Gigabytes of data?
3GB? Cool, that would even include the next half year! Maybe one should take a look and see if pirate did pay in the future... Cheesy
145  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Statement about the suspect of recent Bitcoinica hack on: July 31, 2012, 12:56:11 PM
I note that in his most recent response (which actually tells us nothing new), Patrick has again neglected to tell us if he has obtained a warrant for his actions and what he is permitted to do. As you should all be able to tell, this is a pretty important area of ambiguity that needs clarification. Please answer the question Patrick.
Patrick acted upon the request of Bitcoinica's creditors. Since Bitcoinica, to our best knowledge, did not file a police report, nor seems to care whether the funds are returned to the creditors or not, it might be possible to argue that the creditors are the legitimate owners.
^this - therefor:
I'm not talking about permission from Bitcoinica/Intersango, I'm talking about a legal warrant that allows him to do what would otherwise be considered a criminal act. On what legal authority is he operating?
Funds have been stolen? They have been in some sort of safe deposit at ZT, and now they are on their way to the creditors. All is fine.

Patiently awaiting the payout...

me too
Maybe you should donate your script to pirate, as it did work perfect last week Cheesy

Well, I think you confuse something here. The consultancy kept our funds for a few months, doing basically nothing. Then ZT stepped up and refunded some 5kBTC. Now within days he made more funds available. In my point of view, ZT is the only one that does actually pay back something. If some BitBuster was repaid from this consultancy - fine, however, for all of us still waiting, ZT seems the only one that does not hide behind some delay tactics. Hell, I think, ZT should, if he can, hack the current account of this lame consultancy, so that the funds can be repaid.

I think it is you who are confused.  Ryan Zhou was the one that "hacked" into the site in the first place, stole the coins and destroyed the database.  It is because the database was destroyed that they are having a hard time paying people back.  ZT can't be praised for anything, because he alone willfully caused this mess.

But there is zero evidence, and quite a bit of evidence in the contrary, that Zhou was involved in the Rackspace hack. What makes you believe that?

Apparently there are quite a few guys, like mlawrence, out there, that would love to see the pay back fail. One should really start to wonder why that is...
148  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Statement about the suspect of recent Bitcoinica hack on: July 30, 2012, 05:51:02 PM
Is this yet another delaying tactic by Zhou or a means of keeping the dogs at bay ("dont kill me now, I can get the rest of the money")?

The right solution would be: someone should register BTC as an official unicode character.
Has been tried before https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=7215.0, but it seems that this guy vanished in the meantime.
150  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [Now Funded] Help build a better Bitcoin logo! on: July 30, 2012, 12:39:18 PM

I think this will look very nice, as soon as you use the actual Bitcoin symbol BTC instead of whatever ugly symbol you have used
151  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Statement about the suspect of recent Bitcoinica hack on: July 30, 2012, 10:54:45 AM
ZT being the hacker or not, he is still the only one that acts sort of professional here.
Have a look at the consultancy:
Patrik/Intersago is in Vegas gambling with pirate
Amir/Genjix doesn't seem to care too much lately
Donald, one can only hope that he stopped delaying the payouts
So I guess that Roger is on the right track, ZT will be the fast track for getting back the funds
152  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Look at a pirate, eye to eye if you dare. on: July 30, 2012, 10:47:30 AM
I can confirm BurtW did teach us how to play Craps.

It seems that actually pirate "teached" BurtW how to really play craps Cheesy

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=94900.msg1064624#msg1064624
Certainly, between them they must control what? $300k in coins? More?
More.

Also I'm not quite up to date - what's the situation with the Vegas show Pirate's supposed to be appearing at?
Just got back.  Had a fantastic time.  Met a lot of great guys in person that I had only known through this forum, various IRC and Skype rooms.  Had a long chat with pirateat40 over dinner.  We played craps for hours together.  At one point when we were down a few thousand he made the bet that ALL the other numbers would roll before a 7.  I believe this bet pays 178 for 1 and I tried to talk him out of this "sucker bet".  The very next shooter got on a very hot roll and made pass after pass.  At one point I looked over at the running bet and it turned out that every number had come up (before a 7 out) except the 5.  I asked the shooter to "roll us a 5 please", Pirate offered him $100 to do it on the next roll and I will be damned, he rolled a 5!  We had a fantatic night, Goat saw the whole thing and can verify my story.

Rode the NYNY roller coaster with copumpkin three time in row.  Met Reeses, one of the funniest people I have ever met.  Goat, Gigavps, and several others.

Obviously I am biased since I am one of the six owners of the PPT.x zero coupon bond system (see https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=76594.0 for more details.)  I am still pissed we did not make the list. We were the first to market.  We coined the term PPT for "Pirate Pass Through".  I think we deserve the free advertising just as much of more than any of the other "PPTs".

The point is:  if you are so concerned about all this why the hell didn't you show up and chat with Pirate in person yourself?  Why didn't all the "anti-pirate" crowd not send even one single representative to Vegas?  I got my airline ticket at the last minute and got the flight and hotel for less than 500 bucks.  Surely, between the lot of you anti-pirates you could have scrounged together $500 to send one guy to meet him and report back to your clan.
153  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many Bitcoins have been stolen in total? on: July 30, 2012, 12:03:26 AM
May thread on this topic which includes a comprehensive list of thefts, scams, hacks and other losses.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=83794.0
I mentioned the same thread in post#4, but I guess people like talking repeatedly about the same things all the time, so I think you will be ignored too...
154  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many Bitcoins have been stolen in total? on: July 29, 2012, 11:20:02 PM
As I read more into Bitcoin, the topic of theft comes up often. How much has been stolen in total?
In this forum you are able to search, by clicking the small "button" labeled "search" and type in your, well, search. So within 2 seconds you would have been able to find this:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=83794.0
But of course it is way easier to open a new thread...

@theymos: can we have a sub-section for those constantly repeating threads?
155  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Helsinki Bitcoin Meetup, Friday 2nd of August on: July 29, 2012, 05:25:50 PM
Which calendar do you guys use in Finland? Because the 2nd of August is not a Friday, at least not this year...
156  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Weekend Dip Myth on: July 29, 2012, 10:28:28 AM
6-hourly, from Mon-Sun:

Interesting, apart from the weekend overall down, I would say the Wednesday first 12h up is the most significant one (16weeks and 18weeks up).  How much weeks of data do you actually use for those charts?
157  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Weekend Dip Myth on: July 28, 2012, 10:14:34 PM
The weekend dip, although its premise is disputable, is supported by data. Prices have dropped more on weekends than on weekdays. Sunday is the most severe "day of the dip", Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday are the only other days that demonstrate a drop.

Which time zone did you use?
Can you please label the y axis?
The time zone is UTC. The y-axis has units of days, as in [days risen - days dropped]. The orange line represents 0. The grey lines are, in order from top to bottom:

  • 12
  • 8
  • 3
  • -2
  • -7
  • -12
Thanks. It seems to be almost a continual curve. Did you try to make finer grained diagram? Maybe hour of the week?

159  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Liberty Reserve Trading with Maria [NO TROLLS ALLOWED] on: July 27, 2012, 04:36:15 PM
This is also the same Maria who despite being an FX pro didn't know that buying lots of coins makes the price go up or that it is less profitable to announce the buy before making it.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=40494.0
Hint: it is very profitable to announce a huge buy if you want to make a huge sell Wink
160  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [Now Funded] Help build a better Bitcoin logo! on: July 26, 2012, 01:14:19 PM
This one is still my favorite. Why change to something else?

Excellent, once you convert this to vector you should absolutely get paid the full reward Grin
