We europeans are used to have to get up at strange hours during these kind of events and we never said a word, it happens to you one time and the last 5 pages of the thread are about the time of the release being to bad for you. You are not kids... Grow. ngzhang, i'm interested to know if this second branch of preorders will delay you. Will you have to wait a week (till when we send you the proof of wire transfer) for going live with the preorder another time? Might i suggest to simply say to keep visiting your website, and to release y preorders randomly every x minutes (where x is rand(0, 600), y is rand(0, 5))? I think it it would take you five minutes to write such a script i promise, i will announce that time at least 1 day(24 hours) before we launch the 2nd wave. so please go sleep confidently.

Crap and while I slept they all disappeared. Bummer.
It's worse for the people who did everything they could to prepare, then watched them disappear while they were awake. That's really a bummer. And I still haven't got a satisfactory explanation of how you can stop a customer who already has more than their fair share of this shipment from getting even more. As it stands, the man who has already ordered #'s 0-200 can now order #'s 200-300 as long as he gets to the front of the 'queue' first. I fail to see how holding another, even more over-subscribed free-for-all is going to improve the situation for those that missed out. It could easily make it worse. actually, not. we already take action to avoid this issue. we already reserve 100 units for fragmented customers, we will prepare the website and we will announce the 2nd launch time by mail-list. What if I miss these ~100 units?
How is it fair that any individual got +30 at $1299, and others end up paying $1999, perhaps months later when the equipment is less profitable?
This seems like a great way of consolidating the wealth of those that are already very wealthy. I cannot imagine being in a position to prioritise the spending of $40, 000 on mining equipment.
+1 Very frustrating situation :-(! For me, the server overload was no surprise....at least without a few aws instance The fairest I had found the limitation to one item per order. You would have more happy customers and support the decentralization idea of bitcoin. I got up in the middle of the night to give up frustrated 1.5h later. Please reserve one avalon for all who have posted here and could not order!awfully sorry. i think the most important thing to do is to subscribe at avalon-asic.com , we will announce the 2nd wave time by mail-list. certainly , i will hint everybody in this thread too.

Please understand that there is atleast 100+ units in reserve, not to mention due to this surge in network load many of the orders are duplicates so we are working on that. in addition we have already contact and account for all the large orders, they are not part of the website ordering queue and is separate from the 100+ units in reserve.

Ordering Issues
DNS - Due to some unexpected issues, we understand a lot of people are unable to place orders, to quickly address the issue we have removed 100 units from the pre-order website to relaunch as a second wave of pre-orders in case you are currently unable to load the website. The second-wave date will be announced shortly.
Wire Transfers - We are currently overwhelmed with keeping the site operational, once the order have calm down a bit we will begin the process the wire transfers, once you have received the appropriate information for the wire transfer you have 4 days to complete said wire until the order is canceled.
So even if you did not get a chance to order one in the second wave there is still a possibility somebody will not pay up and complete the order.

still at work, will fix the issue in a short while. we didn't anticipate to such a huge customer flow...

I wonder if you could answer some more questions about the project, I have been reading the wikipedia article about ASICs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application-specific_integrated_circuitQ: I assume you will be using the Standard-cell Design described in the article. Is this correct? A: yes after a long time, we finally finished our research and emulation. now it's time to go.
Q: How many of the 7 steps described in the Standard-cell Design section of the article are you saying have been completed? All of them? will finish all of them before 10.20 Q: I am also assuming that you plan to use a Multi Project Wafer, as described near the end of the article, where your project shares a mask with a bunch of other small projects. Is this correct? no. MPW is only a step of this project, for the sample batch. finally we will have a full wafer. 1, an introduction & pre-order website for out-China customers will online around 9.23. multiple payment methods are acceptable.
Q: Will the finished products ship from China? yes 2, this Project will handle by a highly experienced team, they have 10+ years of ASIC development experience, include all design process. also, they are very trustworthy, their leader is one of my teachers.
Q: Can you tell us about the team? How many members are on it, and who does what? sorry, no. this information is strictly confidential. . Please forgive the large number of questions, but I would love to see them answered before investing such a large sum in the development of the product.

will you guys accept paypal?
Actual, +1 Sorry, i think this possibility is very low.... we don't like paypal. Once the pre-order phase is over, are you really going to up the price to $1999? Even if there's a lot of competition, offering better GH/s/$ than your ASIC?
Yes/No? we will certainly increase the price to 1999...

about Avalon: only applicable for BTC? not similar coins like ppcoin? i guess Lancelot can do similar coins (not LTC) it's depends on whether this "similar coins" use exactly the same method of calculation.

... and the SMT welder operator's salary is 500$.
I live in EU. I'm soldering iron operator ...and my salary is not much bigger, 700$ please use the "soldering iron man" instead or "soldering iron operator" ... but, as far as i know, it there such a low salary in EU now? 700USD a month?
|
|
|
What will the shipping costs for the EU be? The same crazy $80 amount as at BFL?
it's 60 USD ...

Important Notice 1, if your order is large than 30 units, please contact " info@avalon-asic.com " immediately, no matter is or isn't contact before. there will be a head start in pre orders for large orders greater than 30. 2, about payment: confirmed accept bitcoins and wire-transfer, and bitcoins will have much higher priorities. credit card is still considering (maybe NOT support by some reason). 3, for Chinese customers only: 国内在预定后,可以通过支付宝直接付款,银行转账,以及淘宝拍下预订商品的方法付款。

What are we talking about here? Per month? That's still unbelievably low for selling ASICs @ $1299 or $1999 per piece.
relax.

It's China dude. You can hire people to assemble and solder boards 12 hours a day 7 days a week for $200 or less a month by the tens of thousands.
----------------------------------------
Quite true but I know that China can buy and sell our ass hundreds of times:) It is just a matter of time this to happen. Back to the topic - I do not think that they can hire qualified people for 200 even in China. As far as i know 200 USD workers are something like "freelancers". They are farmers and are coming to the factory on a project base. What they do is farming mostly. I personally do not like the idea my ASIC to be soldered by farmer who had a good sleep a month ago, with eyes semi closed thinking about cows, chickens rise or whatever is left in the farm and so on..what about you? But as i said despite of hardware assembling itself..Their know-how is the bitstream or whatever it is called if such thing exists for ASICS and believe me they WILL NEVER outsource it. What i mean is that in any case they will have to do some of the work by themselves... Or at least testing ...
Pretty humorous. *** is reportedly installing a 'pick and place' system to do the SMT themselves. Ok, if you don't have libertarian leanings and do take issue with what's going on with *** right now - think about your purchase decision carefully. Even if you are 'locked in' to *** right now, as most are, there are alternatives for future purchases. All of them from relatively reputable members of the community. yeah, China labor cost is greatly increase these years, $200 is not enough for a quality worker. you must spend 300$ for him. and the SMT welder operator's salary is 500$.
