Because they involved your account in the crime and also, according to you (Zhou Tong) used it for credit card fraud. People file police reports for much, much smaller thefts. Insurance companies have people file reports as a sign of honesty. Lots of reasons to file a report.

The hacker didn't steal from me. Why should I file a police report?

The credit card fraud isn't for me. He used someone else card to buy stuff and ship to a freight forwarder. And he entered that email address for the order.

Another disclosure:

I detected two vulnerabilities in ExchB (hope you guys still remember this exchange) last year and I returned the money I "stole" from them actively after the hack.

I also wanted to test whether Mt. Gox had the same problem, so I created the account using my stevejobs email. I didn't want to use my own account for this testing. And Mt. Gox was secure enough that I failed to exploit.

143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Statement about the suspect of recent Bitcoinica hack on: July 29, 2012, 04:28:16 AM
That email was protected with my weakest password that I reused everywhere and even shared with some other people. I didn't have to protect that email at all because it's meant to be semi-sockpuppet anyway.

He had access to source code after genjix released it.

Chris Heaslip's Mt. Gox account was stored alongside Wendon's in the LastPass. Obviously he didn't know which one had more money so he logged in to both.

I know a lot of his personal information (especially his and his wife's bank accounts and address), and I threatened to report to police if he didn't agree to refund.

I don't know where you got all the misleading information from.

What you mean misleading, it's from YOUR post here! Mine interpretation, but the facts are yours.

The source code was leaked after the hack as far we know. No one in this forum knew about the source code prior to genjix posting it and then deleting it.
Now this hacker dude gets off easily because he sends money back? Why don't you file a police report now?

The hacker didn't steal from me. Why should I file a police report?

I'm obviously more pissed off because of AurumXchange, and people like you, rather than the hacker or Bitcoinica.

The source code is the direct cause for the hack, because the LastPass master password was not redacted.

The hack happened on July 12, and the source code was released a few days before that.

What happened to "innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt"? The funds are most likely not stolen, so why refuse them?
innocent until proven - that's how the mafia operates. if you doubt the legitimate source of your business you should by moral standards put it on hold until the legitimacy is ensured.

+1. As a long time advertiser and supporter, I sincerely hope Theymos do not take the funds. I will pay for that bid if necessary.

Theymos,

Since AurumXchange offered to pay for the same bid, I agree to give up 6 of the slots to AurumXchange at 10 BTC each.

Please don't tell me the ads are going to feature the Bitcoinica incident.  Undecided

It'll be for NameTerrific.
146  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Statement about the suspect of recent Bitcoinica hack on: July 29, 2012, 04:14:14 AM
This is why I don't believe Zhou.

Zhou claimed:

That his business associate stole his password when he signed up on a website.
That his business associate had access to the source code prior to anyone else.
That his business associate knew who was Chris Heaslip!
That his business associate quickly decides to return funds when confronted!

Now replace the business associate with Zhou.. And it makes a lot of sense.

He had access to the email, which he havent used in a while.
Knew the password for lastpass and the source code.
Knew all the people in bitcoinica.
And of course had access to the stolen funds.

This is the evidence just from Zhou, not aurumxchange.

That email was protected with my weakest password that I reused everywhere and even shared with some other people. I didn't have to protect that email at all because it's meant to be semi-sockpuppet anyway.

How is everyone going to get money back from bitcoinica if all the principles have quit ? Maybe they should also transfer all remaining funds to Patrick Murck  Smiley

In my opinion this is a highly viable option.
148  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Statement about the suspect of recent Bitcoinica hack on: July 29, 2012, 02:59:10 AM
If was the thief, I pretty much deserved the public accusations.

But, please, for the sake of the tiniest possibility of my innocence in your rational mind, consider the hurt and pressure on a victim that is definitely not better off in this situation.

I'm working to get this sorted out and trying to get the money returned to Bitcoinica's creditors (not Bitcoinica). Can you imagine the stolen funds can be returned faster than the not-stolen funds held by a company that every single responsible person has quit?
149  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Statement about the suspect of recent Bitcoinica hack on: July 29, 2012, 01:37:52 AM
I have agreed to transfer the funds to Patrick Murck and it'll take place within 24 hours.

To my best knowledge the total interest held by Patrick's clients far exceeds the requested funds at the moment, and Patrick has given me a statement acknowledging that the funds returned are strictly originated from stolen properties of Bitcoinica.

The relevant parties will also post a statement publicly upon receipt of 15,000 BTC, the first batch of funds.

I know why Zhou tong may be worried about an investigation.

----
In China, serious cases of corruption are punished by the death penalty.
During the 1980s, "economic crimes" such as bribery, drug-trafficking, and embezzlement were added to the legal code.
Capital punishment in China can be imposed on crimes against national symbols and treasures, such as theft of cultural relics.
Capital punishment is also imposed on inchoate offenses, that is, attempted crimes which are not actually fully carried out, including repeat offenses such as attempted fraud.
A form of execution called Ling Chi (slow slicing), or death by/of a thousand cuts, was used in China until its abolition in 1905.
Current methods of capitol punishment in China are lethal injection and shooting. Lethal injection is more commonly used for "economic crimes".
Execution vans are unique to China, however.

The thing is that jurisdiction isn't determined by the nationality of the person who committed the crime but by where the crime took place.  Mr relic collector may have to worry about having broken Chinese law, but I'm not seeing what jurisdiction China would have over Zhou if he was found to be involved in the MtGox breach or the laundering of funds from that breach.

Also, Australia will not extradite in cases where the death penalty or other human rights abuses are on the table.

And yeah, if you wanted to start an investigation from the Australian end, you'd call Victoria Police.

The hack happened during my holiday in Singapore,  how?
151  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Payout Updates] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: July 29, 2012, 12:07:31 AM
May I ask, why are you personally attacking Zhou? The community understands your point. None of your posts at this point are helping: this one just damaged your own reputation if anything (it was, in the end, supporting Zhou).

At this point, I'm inclined to believe that you have a personal or commercial reason to blame Zhou.

I wanted to question the same. I have officially requested a contact method of AurumXchange so that I can hire an attorney to look into the situation, but they posted this without giving me any information. (Roberto asked me whether I wanted an address, I said yes.)

Quote
Verification documentation must be sent within 5 calendar days from the time of the order to the email address provided on the order verification email. If the user does not provide the requested documentation within the aforementioned time period, the order will be voided and funds for the order in question returned as explained on paragraph 5.

AurumXchange didn't request any documentation from me and decided to withhold the funds. There's no mention anywhere in the TOS or AML that withholding of the funds will ever happen. Instead, they have said that if the funds are questionable, they will return them to the original sources.
152  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Statement about the suspect of recent Bitcoinica hack on: July 28, 2012, 11:07:53 PM

They should at least make attempt to recover the funds, or start liquidation process, or start police investigation.

Given that your credentials were used without your permission in the money laundering attempt and you believe this same person has committed fraud using your credit card account, you can also start a police investigation.  Pointing out that Bitcoinica should be taking certain actions doesn't deflect from the fact that there are also actions which you could be taking.  By not taking those actions, you're coming perilously close to being an accessory after the fact.

You literally can't exonerate yourself without a law enforcement investigation of the connections between the MtGox breach and your accounts.

Yes, I of course can do this, if I ever wanted to.

My advice was given to the community, and those who want to see their money again.

If you don't care about Bitcoinica's claim process anymore and just want to watch the drama, then your advice is valid.
153  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Statement about the suspect of recent Bitcoinica hack on: July 28, 2012, 10:38:49 PM
Bitcoinica has delayed over $700,000 in refunds for more than 75 days, and they are completely responsible for processing the claims.

Right now this issue is put on hold by them as well, because only Bitcoinica has the power to demand returning the funds from Chen Jianhai. I'm willing to provide his contact information to Bitcoinica or act as an intermediary.

If Bitcoinica refuses to take actions, no matter how much progress we make in investigation, the funds will never be returned to rightful owners.

Here I recommend anyone with significant stake to consider taking legal action against Bitcoinica LP, Bitcoinica Consultancy Ltd and Bitcoin Consultancy Ltd to make returning of the funds possible. Alternatively, the creditors can force Bitcoinica into legal liquidation process so that the management can be replaced by someone else.

Ummm, you stole the money from Bitcoinica!  HOW are they supposed to pay it back?

I didn't.

They should at least make attempt to recover the funds, or start liquidation process, or start police investigation.

But they have done absolutely nothing.

Bitcoinica only owes me about $1,000, and I don't have to sue them.
154  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Payout Updates] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: July 28, 2012, 10:36:09 PM

So you only claim to have hacked this the last round, not the first two or three times? Hmm...

I think he's trying to say the opposite - that he was able to supply large amounts of coins before the Rackspace and MtGox incidents.

Even if someone had the proceeds of all three Bitcoinica-related thefts, they still wouldn't be able to supply "large amounts" "constantly" - the total was around BTC 100k, which means it would be exhausted after only 10 sales of BTC 10k.

I have access to interbank rates that's why I can do arbitration profitably for different currencies.

What exactly are they trying to match up that uyou are saynig does not?

That he's owned that domain since almost 10 years back.

Can someone confirm this? Is this really true? If the Zhou we are all referencing created this then he was only 7.
Truly a genius! Making websites at such a young age.

I actually started making websites at 7, exactly. At that time, I used Microsoft Frontpage and Macromedia Dreamweaver.

But no, my parents wouldn't let me buy a domain at that time.
160  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Zhou Tong, You better pay me now... on: July 27, 2012, 12:14:20 AM
I need written instruction from Bitcoinica to do anything related to the stolen funds. I don't have possession of them but even if I do, I don't have anyway to send them to Bitcoinica at the moment (no one with authority has sent me at least a Bitcoin address yet).

According to Bitcoinica you didn't have a claim. So perhaps you need your lawyer to write to Bitcoinica LP.
