1401  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [RFC] æthereum: a turing-complete coin distributed as per bitcoin's blockchain on: June 15, 2014, 04:21:13 PM
6.  Wait a second, you’re actually telling me my bitcoin private keys allow me to claim æther for free?
16.  Wow, this is a cool idea.  Couldn’t any alt-coin be re-released with an initial coin distribution equal to the unspent outputs in the bitcoin blockchain?
This is the sidechain idea. The sidechain is broken in that it encourages "riches just get richers". Plus, if you want to reinforce the position of BTC and kill diversity, use sidechain. People will soon realised that owning Bitcoin gives you more altcoins for free.

A bit like merge-mining. A bit like killing the golden goose.

Or maybe, just maybe, a bit like high-PoS coins. But nothing for sure.
1402  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Aeon coin - CryptoNight - CPU only on: June 15, 2014, 04:12:14 PM
why all the coins who with CryptoNight QTY is 18.4M?
Note all are. Nothing forces such a quantity, save for lack of coding skills and of understandings of the economy and psychology behind the quantity of coins.

Only BCN is true original. Everything else is a clone. But who cares, people are selling/buying.
Tenebrix/Litecoin.
1403  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - Secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: June 15, 2014, 03:27:18 PM
[12:37:55] <darlidada> Hi MintPal-Jay : if Monero is first on voting list on monday are you gonna be able to add it? because its not a bitcoin clone, its total new technology so maybe its gonna be hard, are u aware of it and of the work that needs to be done to implement it? I ask because at the moment investors are betting a lot of bitcoins to make it first on monday! It would be a shame if things doesnt work out
[13:19:46] <@MintPal-Jay> darlidada: We haven't coded it yet, but might do sooner than later given its climb, tomorrow would be a bit too soon
I can't hardly believe they are that incompetent. Overpromise, underdeliver...

Congratulations, darlidada.

This advice was addressed to small miners with 100-200 H/s.
So, I qualify as a very small miner Smiley

Notice that cpuminer-multi in homebrew tap is LucasJones's miner, I can't compile wolf's miner for some reason Sad
Thanks I will update accordingly. Please notify me when you can get Wolf' miner.
1406  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [DIG] DIGIT | Unique & Transparent | Fair PoW & Dynamic PoS | on: June 15, 2014, 09:29:59 AM
Compilation doesn't work with Arch. My codes:
Code:
cd ~/cryptos && git clone git://github.com/DigitSF/Digit && cd Digit && qmake-qt4 Digit-qt.pro && make
and
Code:
cd ~/cryptos && git clone git://github.com/DigitSF/Digit && cd Digit && qmake-qt5 Digit-qt.pro && make
(the same with qmake-qt5 instead of qmake-qt4)

I don't mine, so mining is of no interest for me (but I understand it is for a lot of people).
1407  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [DIG] DIGIT X13 | Unique and Transparent! | Dig In! | on: June 15, 2014, 08:49:28 AM
Future for this coin seems very uncertain, Developer seems like a good guy but really needs to come up with something impressive for this coin.

This coin is a real enigma to me. We have a dev that seems really committed to the cause. Also seems intelligent, speaks English better than 99% of other devs. Quick to answer any questions in the thread etc. Staking is working bueatifully in the wallet and there's hints of anonymous messaging coming among other developments. Yet still there seems to be virtually no interest in the coin - whereas, there are still "country coins" being released by devs who can't string a proper sentence together and even insult the users trying to mine their coins - and these coins still generate 100x more interest!

It's a total mystery IMO!
With a higher interest, I would have invested. But the interest rate is not enough for me. I agree it is an otherwise interesting coin.

Edit: "Mining period lasts approximately three years. By the end of this period, mining reward has decreased to the minimum and Digit mining process will end. Once mining has ended, staking interest rate will start moving towards to monthly base rate of 1%" Does it mean no interest at all the first three years?

Guys, could you read the OP, for a change?
1409  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Short VPS mining guide (Ubuntu only) on: June 15, 2014, 08:27:56 AM
1. Check your version number: lsb_release -a. It if says 14.04 or 13.10 (maybe 13.04 or 12.10, but not 12.04), you're good to go. It not upgrade: sudo do-release-upgrade -d (it will be long)
2. Install and choose option 2: cd ~ && rm -f install_monero.sh && wget http://monero.cc/downloads/install_monero.sh && bash install_monero.sh
3. Run nproc to know your number of threads
4. Run sudo sysctl -w vm.nr_hugepages=X, with X is three times the number of threads
5. Find a pool you are comfortable with. Ideally, it would be close to your location, have a hashrate that is less than 100x your own hashrate and have low fees and donate part of the fees to the development of monero
5. Run this command (you may have to enter your root password and change address, pool and threads - the -t 2 at the end) cd ~/monero/cpuminer/cpuminer-multi && ./minerd -a cryptonight -o stratum+tcp://mro.extremehash.com:7777 -u 46ctfLBhgyzJm61oTtDfu9GbVhG7ito4fNiQjdZcB5bL3mz5ejQrPD29uEkDHFzCVTHGFqAdG456w6i vYp7K23SiGREUiQe -p x -t 2

Feedbacks appreciated.

the sooner the noble switch to POS the better..and the best is 100%POS..no more POW,we are suffering enought with those miners dumping as soon as they mined, with the 100% POS + multipool..the situation turn around from selling noble to buying noble and this is what we need.
another advantage for 100% POS is: we can ignore now anything about mining things and fully developing in marketplace and adding some features for wallet.
Hybrid PoW/PoS at the advantage that if one proof doesn't work, the other one is still there. Plus, PoS is not cryptographically proven. So, I am not sure pure PoS is that good.
1412  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: T-bills are to Neutrino coin like Monero is to Bytecoin on: June 15, 2014, 07:02:21 AM
What's your deal?
I believ that only BCN developers truly understand how the code works, because nobody except them release relevant updates for strategic development of the technology.

Yeah, right (hint: new links).

1415  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Proof of Stake Investment - NVC/HBN/PHS/TEK/and more on: June 15, 2014, 05:29:14 AM
Fluttercoin - FLT
Diamond - DMD

FLT, newcomer and stakes at a month, but I'm just hanging on for interest sake. Not a big holding,
The last three are "rebirths". Some devs got behind them and they all had new launches with fixed improved stake. So I'm dabbling. All of those have very low liquidity.
What is Fluttercoin's interest? How does Flutter PoT works?
What is Diamond's interest?

Also, as a reminder for everyone, what StakeHunter said earlier (StakeHunter's pledge): ensure liquidity, sell 25% of your stake every months (at least for coins with low liquidity).

Also, I created a proof of stake list that you can modify: Proof-of-stake list

I've just created a quick and simple OS X mining GUI (well, its more of a launcher actually...) that comes with precompiled static binaries of Wolf's CPU miner. CPU miner binaries tested on 10.8 and later, the GUI has only been tested on my 10.9.3 machine but I don't foresee any issues.

Hopefully its useful to someone Smiley

If you wish to donate feel free to PM me for my XMR or BTC wallet address! Tongue

OP updated. Please notify us when you'll get a more permanent URL

If this behaviour of outperforming during a btc downtrend persists I will have to consider rotation.
Please explain "rotation". Holding more Monero than Bitcoins? the present trend is not representative, this is just speculation before going to Mintpal.

Is there a GUI windows wallet for XMR?
Check the OP
1418  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NobleCoin[NOBL] - **NOBL/$USD@VoS**MARKETPLACE/BULLION**52 CHARITIES/MERCHANTS** on: June 15, 2014, 04:52:22 AM
My personal preference is an interest rate that when compounded yearly provides an attractive incentive to hold but does not over-inflate like our PoW rate similar to a savings account.
So go for 50% annual rate minimum. This looks insane compared to IRL standards (a mistake most of us did, me included), but this cannot be compared because there is one big difference: volatility. As tokyoghetto (of reference in high-PoS) stated it, a coin can lose 50% of its value in one day, whilst you won't lose you fiat (a couple of percent of inflation is the worst you can expect).
So 50% is the minimum.
When it comes to how to calculate the percentage, there are two schools:
- Peercoin-based: constant annual. Peercoin, Blackcoin... have 1%, Philosopher's Stone (which experienced the same issue as Noblecoin and just moved to full PoS recently) is 50% annual.
- Novacoin-based (Novacoin itself being based on Peercoin): dynamic rate (dubbed "NVCS"). The actual interest rate depends on the amount of people stacking. So, the more people stake, the less interesting is the interest. For instance, Novacoin was at 100% annual and it is now at 40% because so much people are stacking.

Dynamic interest is what I suggest, so it would prevent too much hoarding. Regarding the risk of inflation, well, only CENT ran into inflation and this was because of an error in their code (1000% per month).
=> my suggestion is 50%+ NVCS. Since PHS is already 50%, you should aim for more. Or else, you can make the min age lower, to encourage use of the money. 0,25% per day is easy to read, ends up with a higher annual percentage and doesn't encourage people to hoard "till the next staking period" (PHS is 5/15 days). Blackcoin did something similar but even faster: 8 hours/no max age (but it was 1% so essentially useless).
If you hesitate on the min/max age, 5/15 days is common. HBN uses it and works very well.

Also, you could go for PoW/PoS hybrid, but I am not sure it is a good idea. What is not a good idea (as BC experienced it) is to have both full PoS and low inflation. BC was essentially dying before they created the multipool (which basically emulate PoW).

when mint went PoS, I think, price went down to now maximum 10 sat. A coin shouldn`t be hold back in a wallet. It has to circulate to get a real value.

I agree with you. However I feel MINT (as well as NOBL) suffer because the older a coin gets, the less community members remain. Only genuine supporters of a coin are around at this point, the rest of the crypto. community have moved on to new coins to continue their profit-taking. This is the trial period. We will be promoting circulation with merchant acceptance and continuing our Marketplace deals, promotions & future services. Unfortunately, our PoW security is too low in this environment. That has to come first, then we can tackle the rest head on.
Ah, here I am on my territory Smiley MINT in a way suffered from its heyday. People got spoiled with the 60 satoshi price. Plus, the MINT community is pretty passive (it keeps whining about dev do this, dev do that, but what do they do themselves? Tokyopotato gets justly infuriated because of that). This, plus the premine and the complete lack of transparency (including Soviet-style demodding of people who don't please them) attitude of the devs. And finally the whole "too much coins" aspect. MINT could flower once BTC price will increase tenfold or even hundredfold, when people will start reasoning in satoshi and ot in millibitcoins.

Manipulation or accumulation, or people unhappy with us being Scrypt, or unhappy with us being PoS. People generally unhappy that we lack immediate gains or fear for the longetivity of the coin. There are a million reasons and I combat the question myself daily after all the work we've put in, believe me. I think most people in this scene chase quick profits and then leave coins to die, regardless of its specs or what it plans to offer. You see this with every 'big thing' we've been asked to compete against this year. While our cap never went as high as some, the % lost in value comparatively is relatively similar over time with other coins. It's an unfortunate reality we've had to deal with daily, but we will deal with it until we hit a sweet spot.
Same issue as for MINT. The only thing I can say (for both MINT and NOBL) is that a lot of people like MINT (and NOBL). But not the day-trader crowd.

I just requested that CAP be added to Allcoin.com, Illl let everyone know once it is on the voting list.
Definitely. Allcoin is great, I bought GRW there (and talked with pressta(b) ^^). Cryptsy for the moment is holding my PHS and my CAP. The completely deserve to have lost their first position to MintPal.

Edit: I just submitted a ticket to Allcoin too.

They wouldn't add Nxt when Nxt got first place votes for a mile, once they realized they actually had to modify the api since it wasn't a bitcoin clone. Nxt offered its own developers for help, but MintPal was too lazy.
They added it in February. The just removed it two days after, (something about technical issues)
