Yes, you are complaining about one share being reported DOA but your estimated efficiency is ~128.6%. Well, again, it would have been my first DOA/orphan... except, well, it wasn't a DOA. This time I was slow, but my share that arrived about 950ms after my bitcoind picked up the new block and built off of 5cfa46a1 instead of 1d667ebf... became undead.... because, well, someone else had a slow bitcoind.
Any proof of that or is it speculation? I'd say this occurs maybe 5% of the time
You'd say many things but you wouldn't back it up with useful data would you? If you want to get someone else interested, copy your logs, find out the precise percentage of whatever you think is wrong is happening instead of guessing and if you still think there is a problem push it somewhere with your findings. If you manage to prove that your efficiency is changed by more than 1% over 3 days I'd be surprised, heck, I even would raise an eyebrow if it was changed by more than 0.25%. Repeatedly claiming there's a bug affecting income of normal miners when these 'victims' always have above normal efficiency is becoming old and tired. Isolated events are meaningless: statistics on at least 3 days worth of data and 1000 self-produced shares (if you want to prove a 1% change, 10000 if you want to prove a 0.1% change) or GTFO. Huh? I've posted maybe 10 occasions of this happening on here... and, yeah, I do have a logfile. I already told you what the percentage was. The share wasn't DOA. That's the problem. That's also why you get orphaned shares, for actually punishing these. |

I'd say this occurs maybe 5% of the time, the other 95% of the time is when I get a legit shit that's orphaned... probably a few of them by ^^ zombies like that
... i think it must have been between me and that other share that got punished 300ms earlier. maybe the 150ms between the punish and the 'new work for worker' is where my miner picked up the share based on the 5cfa46a1 parent.

Uh, you've got it as the exact opposite of what the reality is
Slow nodes aren't being punished... furthermore, if they found a block while generating these useless shares, then it'd be an orphaned block

i have it running now if someone wanted to test before setting up local node or something Now consider the rule defined by those 3 lines I was talking about. It states "If a share (S) is based on stale block, mine on its parent (P)." (That's what "Punishing for block-stale / Jumping to ..." log message is about.) If a miner (either intentionally or because of slow bitcoind) disrespects this rule, not only he loses nothing, but may also eventually profit from it! Really, his share A (a child of block-stale share S, which is punished by the rest of the network) is 1 share ahead of "proper" miner's share B, which is P's child. As a result, A will have priority over B even if B is found earlier! Exactly  |

I've actually watched it as it occurred a couple of times now.
It places these late shares into my 'headers' section. If I get a share during this time, then it builds off the share before all these 'punished' ones started appearing in my headers section.... the problem is, by the time I build off share x, punished share y already has one or two other shares below it.... but as it is never put in my share chain, I don't build off of it

Share 360c92d3 was invalid, if it had been a block, it would have been an orphaned block. Yet share 6b5c7b6f built off of it anyway.
That's why it seems to me like a slow bitcoind is actually beneficial to your p2pool payout... (but if you were to find a block, it'd significantly increase the chances of it being orphaned)

sometimes I'll get an old version connect to me, and it'll request a parent share from it... then my client begins to request parent shares from these other IPs over and over.
has this happened to anyone else?
i guess some code needs to be added to block v11?

I have one of those powercolor 7950's from newegg also (probably purchased same day) but never bothered to check out how the warranty works. any clue on that? i know MSI is based off manufacture date, is Powercolor something similar? or is it tied to the buyer?
ed: oh, usps would be cheaper than UPS for anything but really large/multiple packages... (though I'd use UPS or FedEx for any worldwide shipment, regardless)

ok, the price is at $70something, you turn off because you are losing money on the elec. next week the price is $120 and you have lost a weeks worth of mining. I mean, really unless you are cashing out your BTCs as you get them, do you really care about the current price? Or do you feel that the current drop will be permanent? well, i used to say it was overpriced at $50, so now it's at $65 or whatever and i still think it's overpriced. but it seems to me like at least there will be downward pressure for the next several months with (some of) these new people to bitcoin wasting money on ASICs (re: the ones that were insanely overpriced) thinking they'd actually profit from it. so they'll be selling as they make i turned off all the stuff in my 'dedicated' room (well, ok, i will later tonight), i'm going to wait until next week to take everything out, just in case. i'll probably leave the stuff mining in my room with the portable AC, at least for another few weeks... that's only like 1ghash though |
