161  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Lightning network - implementation plan and roadmap or expected sequence ahead? on: March 30, 2018, 01:24:23 PM
This article will gelp you better understand the LN and its potential danders....https://www.blockchains-expert.com/en/lightning-network/
No.....no it won't. It's not accurate and or correct. It seems to state that the "payment channels" will be "regulated". From my reading of the White paper, I do not believe that is either possible or true. This article seems to be spreading the misinformation that Lightning is a venue for Banks and corporations to control the BTC network. I strongly disagree with that premise.
162  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Have you used Lightning yet? How did it go? on: March 30, 2018, 01:13:14 PM
I will tell you about my personal experience with lightning network and Zap-Desktop App:
1. Installation of App: used Windows 8.1 operating system, installation took about 12 minutes.
2. Zap interface: the interface of this application is already attractive and is characterized by ease.
3. payment channel: I bought some free testnet BTC and after the confirmation process I was able to open a channel(Peers ---> Add new peer ----> channels --->  create a payment channel)
4. receive payments: click "payment request".

I'm not sure about that but I do not think we will need to download the entire network of blockchain when we use the lightning network.
Based on the White paper, you will not.
163  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Miner Hosting/Collocation on: March 30, 2018, 01:04:30 PM
of course there is huge demand I have big problem to find hosting. I think if you can find electricity for around 5 cents kw/h and charge $15 for asic $20 for gpu rig per month it would be OK Cheesy maybe little bit more. But I know hosting who charge such fee and they make profit but their electricity rate is higher
Your having a "big problem" finding hosting because it's a terrible business model with unlimited risk. The only hosting facilities that can survive the risks of this market are those that mine themselves on a very large scale. Also, if you're hosting at .05 you won't get far. That's a terrible rate for that kind of overhead. Especially if you're just starting out and have not already recouped on some of your build out cost. But hey....have at it.
164  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Launching the Antminer L3+, World's Most Powerful and Efficient Litecoin Miner on: March 30, 2018, 12:46:51 PM
I bought some too against my better judgement. My outlook is bleak but after coupons i paid $650.00 per L3+ including shipping. That's one rock solid little unit so at that price, it's worth a try. Definitely saving most bullets for next tech. Keep in mind the massive outlier of Lightning Network. If that effort takes hold, this stuff will blow the roof off. There is better than a 50/50 Chance that can happen in 2018. It's always darkest before the dawn.

Yep, that is my bet also..grumpy though it makes me....I"ve too much dubious LISK ..that would be very sucseptable to a price dump of BTC and all crypto....thus

my hedge below...I don't like it...but again at my risk of needing to make $250 a unit to break even AFTER electric...I too figure it is maybe a bit more than 50/50 odds in my case.

(again see below posting) ...but we are all essentially betting (even if just like me in a small part) on Unicorn dreams/ fariydust/ rainbows/ and nubile women.....odds are long...

most likely senario is price goes sideways...and all this equipment I get will just be a 'wash' oranges for oranges ..when the mining pukes...but hey, you know what they say:

dump or pump...chump or champ...we will see!

brad

Wow, super bargain price. Any rumor on next generation of scrypt miner from Bitmain ?

Also have similar concerns...L3+ price keep dumping. Or maybe it just because of competition agains Innosilicon A4, A6 miners.

L3+ is only 28nm and Inno A4 is on 14/16nm. The A4 is only 20% more efficient. The S9 (14/16nm) is 3 times more efficient than the S7 (28nm). Hence, if an L4+ appears, it could be 3 times more efficient. That being said, I dont think an L4+ will appear anytime soon as there is no real need for it. Bitmain can win on pricing by far I believe, especially since they are producing a 28nm against a competitor 14/16nm.

Just my 2 cents
Bitmain is sending a definite signal that they are clearing their inventory in preparation for release of new technology. The legacy units are now only useful to those with huge scale and minimum electricity costs. To say the l3+ will be "useless" is just plain stupid. Although it will be, to all the stunned morons that piled into mining in the last 4 months at record ASIC and Crypto highs. Time to cull the herd.

I got some...(or trying to thru a buddy) L3+'s but with coupons and my tax rate and the equip deduction my REAL risk is only $250 a unit...also paying in LISK which I have a mess of

and if the price does tank in crypto...like all alts that will tank more...so whatever ...this hedge on equip or hedge on holding alts/btc...IF price stays sideways ..whatever 'mixture'

I choose (with above coupons/equip deductions/ etc) it is likely a wash...again if price goes sideways.....IF price dumps for BTC and worse for alts...then we are all screwed and

all this won't matter anyway...whatever the above mixture of equip vs alts thing I'm doing...of course if price eventually rises and you can HODL some crypto...well hell..that's

the bet on this sideways drama of price and likely only doing oranges (equip) for oranges (weak crypto) etc

A NORMAL guy without the above ...will ONLY have coupons (maybe) and the 25% equipment deduction their risk could be as high as 75% in real money (unlike me with my tax rate)

so be aware of the difference I'm at with all this and where you may be on all this angle wise...just the way it is...also remember this 50% to tax man with state is off my

CURRENT mining income...I stop mining and this goes away...so for right now my hedge on this equip risk is pretty damn low...assuming mining of any kind hangs together...

Anyway, if crypto mining is DONE ...then I got equipment for deductions ONE STEP TOO FAR...which is pretty much how I always expected it to end.....IF price of crypto goes

sideways for say months..MAYBE I can pretend it is 2015 and just be grumpy and HODL a lot of crypto/LTC or whatever....and of course if price dumps and difficulty cranks up

even more....well all this won't matter anyway.....and I'll wrap the works up ..mining wise by July 2018 at best anyway...

anyway, as a HEDGE, with the altcoins I'm gonna use vs the rest of the risk out there..it is kinda a wash in my case...even less risk if you are in my boat and have the $450

coupons...so I expect a lot of big whales with the $450 coupons to come out and play in bitmain land (or likely boobytrap land)

Also, I expect this stuff to all sell out quick and probably we are not gonna see any ASIC's anymore ...till as some say new equip by bitmain or the summer sometime at best...

my frigging 'guess' and risk/ratio!

you roll the dice, you take the risk!

brad

Better buy LTC at $110 and wait for the summer pump at $300-$400 better bet and not so much risk
No the risk is....it goes to $50.00. It also doesn't provide any daily income or ability to enhance yield through
Hedging and Swaps. Your idea is called speculation. Ours is a business. Yours is a linear approach. Ours is multi faceted. You only have one way to make money. I have 6-10.
165  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lightning Network - not the real solution to BTC scaling problems? on: March 30, 2018, 12:07:14 AM
Actually the bitcoin transaction cost is cheap, because the high bitcoin price currently affects expensive transaction costs.
This is incorrect. Higher fee transactions move to the miner priority "front of the line". They can be as cheap as you want them to be but your transaction will not be confirmed in a timely manner. Increasing Block sizes is like a dog chasing it's tail. They will continually increase in size in order to continue to scale, until only extremely large and expensive PC's will be able to run the Block chain thereby centralizing into the hands of the very rich. Just like Proof Of Stake does.
166  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network's penalty system in action on: March 29, 2018, 11:54:31 PM
Either way....best of luck with this. This is seriously the most important thing to happen to this protocol since it's inception. I have no programming or coding experience. Just a medium scale miner. I would love to hear any suggestions on how I could help, support and or further LND from my side of the desk....

Run a Lightning Node..  Smiley
Nevermind.....got it.

That actually sounds very intriguing. Nothing too exciting going on in mining these days. If you have any suggestions on where and how to start I'd appreciate that. Either here or PM? Thank you in advance.

If someone is interested, here is a custom L3+ firmware by Russian hackers.  Cool I am not an author, so I'm not responsible for anything related to this firmware.

2% devfee. Independent parameters adjustment for each board.

My hashrate with ASIC voltage 8:

Firmware itself: https://yadi.sk/d/6-o2TLBJ3Tsvk2

Looks like you should keep the frequency as high as possible, and ASIC voltage should be as low as possible. Keep an eye on HW errors.

In my experience the L3+ is the most "overclockable" miner in history. They stay very stable at some pretty heady frequencies. Don't really need any outside programs??
170  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Launching the Antminer L3+, World's Most Powerful and Efficient Litecoin Miner on: March 29, 2018, 01:08:04 PM
Oh so I bit the big one and bought 4 more L3+'s.  For 4 units the coupons actually covered more than just the shipping!
It ain't pretty right now, but I had to do it. Things can change fast in this new world of ours. I predict a US stock market/Real estate crash and a Lightning network implementation for 2018. We'll see then.
171  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Miner Hosting/Collocation on: March 29, 2018, 01:04:51 PM
You're absolutely right.  It's kind of tough how there are so many scams out there.  I have interacted with quite a few members who are seniors on here.  I'm just another entrepreneur trying to start a business help the community as a whole.  I believe that signing a contract and having a valid ID's would hopefully bridge the gap in trust.  Getting those first few customers will be hard but i hope there are other things i can do so that it doesn't seem like a blind leap in faith.  Would you have any suggestions on how i might be able to genuinely build up trust as a start up?
Great idea.....bad timing. Even at kwh rates of nil, there'll be no margin to cover your side of the take. You'd have to host 10,000 units to make any money.
172  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Launching the Antminer L3+, World's Most Powerful and Efficient Litecoin Miner on: March 29, 2018, 12:54:14 PM
I've enjoyed reading all of your feedback about the L3+ price drop. Still, I'd like to get another one or two. I have one now set up on solar power so, low electricity cost, but would like to expand a little. Even with the price drop, I'm still a little short with shipping, power supply, and customs. So, upon advice from mining whale friend of mine, I came to ask, hat in hand, if any of you big dogs have a Bitmain coupon that you can't/won't use and would be willing to part with?
If, like BenRickert I could get it down to $650ish, I'd be thrilled! Fingers crossed XX.
Thank you!

.

I think u have better luck trying to get a 350 or 420 dollar coupon at higher prices. Check the marketplace.

Notice ALL coupons expire no later than June 30 2018. I suspect a 10 or 12 NM announcement shortly after. NO WAY Bitmain is taking coupons for the new units.

I dont think they would do that so fast. That would be very bad for previous L3+ customers. L3+ is only on 28nm, thus a 14/16nm is more than enough. A 14/16nm should be 3 times stronger I believe.
I'm just not all that convinced they care. Scypt diff just went through the roof again. I'm pretty sure Bitmain is already running the next Gen.

Hey, does anyone have any x11 coin, besides DASH, that is worth a mess of D3 ASIC's attempting to pump/mine/etc?

Or am I simply being delusional?

Looking for the equivalent in x11 coin of if  BTC=DASH then LTC=??? x11 coin

So ANY x11 coins folk would recommend with their devs having their sh*t together and trying in some manner for the 2nd slot like BTC to LTC?

(hey, all I got is a 'hail mary pass' attempt here...doorstop status awaits at the end of the month....I may be in denial....)

I would like to know this too.

Tis....likely fairy-dust dreams/unicorn poop/and rainbows....dare to dream (unlikely as hell thou..such an x11 coin exists, besides DASH)

This is bad, it is now 318 USD for a D3. The difficulty will rise again?
Yes.....and again and again. Bitmain is sending a clear signal that they are clearing their inventory in preparation for release of new technology. The legacy units are now only useful to those with huge scale and minimum electricity costs.

I suggest you start by reading through the following paper:
https://lightning.network/lightning-network-paper.pdf

This is extremely exciting. An absolute must read. What is the common consensus on when Lightning Network can be implemented? Time wise? I know it's a guess but this is easily the most important BTC development since it's inception. Any " educated guesses "?
