161  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's Your Exchange to Wallet Ratio? on: January 09, 2024, 11:11:19 AM
By storing our assets, such as Bitcoin, in a hardware wallet or other wallets, at least we have full control over those assets. And if we can protect it by following the advice given, that should be enough to protect its assets. If you have assets in your wallet, you need to be more careful and not let many people know that you have Bitcoin.
Hardware wallets in theory are good but you must choose open source hardware wallets to use. Ledger is not open source and they looks shady with their latest product Ledger Recovery Service and they have bad record of data breach.

[LIST] Open Source Hardware Wallets

Quote
I also do exchanges like you and do not keep most of my assets on exchanges. And I've been doing that for a long time. We must be responsible for these assets, so we try to protect them by using a separate wallet or hardware wallet.
If you don't use hardware wallets, you can use multisig wallets as your alternative for hardware wallet.

Storing bitcoin on centralized exchanges is very risky. We can go to bed, sleep and wake up with a nightmare news. When something go wrong with a centralized exchange, we as users of their exchange, can not do anything because we don't have private key.
162  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: I see many users talk about trading but does anyone here actually trading? on: January 09, 2024, 04:34:28 AM
I did try trading, and like what the first poster said, learning trading isn't hard, but making money in trading is the hard part.
You can learn and trade many years but without net profit. It is not something surprising because most of traders lose money and very few traders get profit.

In short term, most of traders can see profit even bad traders because if they trade in an upward trend, they will easily see profit. But they fail to protect their profit then initial capital and lose money. It will be worse when they trade in a bear market when they possibly lose money at faster rate.

Quote
When I was trying to learn trading, I still remember the feeling when you watch a Youtube video, they share some tips, and tricks that can help me as a newbie trader. The feeling when they're sharing their own strategy, the indicators that they're using, and of course the profits that they're making. I felt the excitement and said to myself "I'll just copy what he says, and I will get profit as well."
Thank you for sharing it. I believe most of us experienced similar things in trading.

Awesome crypto trading for any newbie, traders want to learn.
163  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Step you have to take before venturing into the market on: January 09, 2024, 02:49:54 AM
These steps are supposed to end with a simple answer: Do you want to trade or not, thus reducing the risks, but they will not benefit you much since you have made up your mind and want to trade, but they remind you of the risks of trading. The necessary advice, in my opinion, is to have experience in creating a demo account and experimenting with trading, and I am certain that the results in the medium term will give you a better understanding of what trading is, and then you will have more logical reasons to accept or reject trading based on personal experience and not based on the analyzes of others.
Demo accounts and trading with demo accounts only can help you to test your knowledge about technical, fundamental analysis but it won't be too helpful when you switch to trading with your official account and real money.

With real money, you will start to be greed or fearful and it will be start of many problems in trading.

Reducing risk in trading is a very good point. To reduce risk, don't use leverage, don't use futures. Just don't.

People can advice to use maximum x2 leverage, I don't call it is a bad advice because with x2 leverage, you reduce risk of forced liquidation. Just reduce that risk but does not guarantee you will never be liquidated.

So to reduce risk of liquidation, to avoid it, better just don't use leverage, even x2.

166  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum: send transactions status Unconfirmed after 12 hours on: January 07, 2024, 03:30:34 PM
With very low fee rates like 1 to 1.5 sat/vbyte, your transactions will be dropped from many mempools but even there are some mempools don't drop your transactions, they will not confirm yours.

Waiting is waste of your time.

Try to connect your Electrum wallet to some different Electrum servers and if you see your transaction shows as Local. Click on it to Remove. Then rebroadcast your transaction with higher fee rate. Current mempools will give you confirmation with fee rate like 40 sat/vbyte.
167  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Michael Saylor talks about Bitcoin, and you WILL be disappointed on: January 07, 2024, 03:06:01 PM
I truly thought that he of all founders/CEOs from legacy, actually understood what Bitcoin is, how it technically works and because of it, I thought he understood how its ethos was derived from how Bitcoin technically worked. It was also because if this educational website, built by the foundation of his, that I thought he might be different from the others.

https://learn.saylor.org/mod/page/view.php?id=30734&forceview=1

He has the educational website, but he didn't learn anything from it. Cool
We can not know his learning progress but people can always change their mindset. As a businessman, he can more flexible with his mind if it brings benefit to his business.

For the educational contents on his Saylor Academy website, it's very possible that those contents were composed by his staffs, not by himself. He even not read all those contents.

He can do what needed for his business and if it helps Bitcoin gets more exposure in community, expands its adoption, I see he is doing good contributions for us.

Use his business products, it depends but I would like to store my bitcoins self custodial.
168  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's Your Exchange to Wallet Ratio? on: January 06, 2024, 11:43:04 AM
My ratio:
0% in exchange.
100% in wallet.

Because exchange is only to trade, not as a place to hold your coins "Not Your Keys Not Your Coins".
I know it's not safe to store your coins on exchanges but 0%, it is unbelievable.

It's hard to find people who don't trade on exchanges and 0% trading in this market is very rarely to find people like this. Maybe you are different.

Decentralized exchanges can be one of choices for trading without storing coins on exchanges but they are not too convenient.

The only Bitcoin I leave on exchange is something I will like to use for trading, I don't like leaving anything on crypto exchanges but due to transaction fee I am now used to leaving some Bitcoin on exchange, not enough to hurt my feelings if anything goes wrong.
It's only good option now if you receive your bitcoin from signature campaign payment and know that you will need to sell it to stable coin or cash to use. If you know you don't need to touch those coin next like 3 months or 6 months, it's not a good option.
169  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: ESSENTIALLY SIMPLE TRADING FACTORS THAT EVERY TRADER SHOULD CONSIDER on: January 06, 2024, 03:38:54 AM
Specifically I will be talking about three things I think if you consider and fix them, there's no limit to how successful you can be trading, they includes 1. Discipline 2. Patience 3. Confidence. After proper studies and gaining the much needed knowledge to trade you need the above to helping your trading journey turn out a success.
In trading, your confidence can kill your position and cause capital loss.

You are confident about your trading strategy and the position you opened, ok, it's good but not enough. You must know that no traders including you, can be right 100% for all trading positions.

Because there will be failed rate and with trading, I see failed rate is big enough, you must have plan B, prevention for loss of your capital.

Use stop loss orders or better stop limit orders.

Don't be a very confident trader and do neither use Stop limit order or Stop loss order.
170  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🔥🔥🔥 BC.GAME - CASINO AND SPORTSBOOK | $1,000 GIVEAWAY LIVE! 🔥🔥🔥 on: January 06, 2024, 02:40:38 AM
BC.Game's crash is really entertaining and that's the main reason to have 2k to 3k players who play that game. I believe they have spent some good amount in marketing of their platform and that's the main reason for having that many players playing that game. Marketing truly plays a very important role in gaining that many players.

They're not like other casinos who don't spend money on marketing because I have found their advertisement on many platforms and also on some block explorers. By the way their crash game is quite entertaining and when a player starts playing that games then they almost get deeply involved in it.
Before marketing, they must complete more important things. Building up good infrastructures for their platform with vital part for security and keep their platform runs smoothly and safely without security problems.

Products must be bought with partnership to big and trusted game providers at start to save time and cost of building up own games. However, when their business is successful and big enough, they actually thought of more, building up their own games. It's not easy tasks because it needs a lot of complicated pieces, ideas for games, building those games, testing them and at the end, we have marketing.

BC.Game are doing just well for their business exclusively their crash games.
171  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is GRIN still a thing? on: January 05, 2024, 02:33:46 PM
Grin is still a thing. They still have a small but active community and developers that are working. The overall crack on privacy based coins had an effect on the price and adoption of GRIN coin on exchanges and among people. Grin rose to a high price where there was hype about the privacy coins but has now settled in a much lower price range which actually is the natural price for it. It could still be a good coin to invest in as the hype on privacy focused coin may return.
Biggest problem with Grin is its inflation, very high inflation. It is affected by general break down on privacy coins but it bas its own problems.

In first several years, Grin coin is very inflationary and it is very natural to see its price affected by this. It seems the coin supply curve will enter a flatter area next two years.
Inflation will ensure a general downward price trend for at least the first year, I'd expect, and it becomes sort-of reasonable only after 4 years. Will grin survive that long? Not sure. If you think it will, then it might make sense to buy grin at very cheap prices in its first few years, and this thinking could perhaps stabilize the market somewhat.

172  Other / Off-topic / Re: [Security] Tools for Monitoring Email Breaches and Link Safety on: January 05, 2024, 02:19:53 PM
In general, do not post your personal email publicly, do not randomly click on links and assume that your email has been leaked.
Use a new email address for exploration on new sites, new platforms or even can use throw-away email addresses.

For important accounts, don't use emails for those account registrations and use them on other platforms especially new ones that have higher risk of phishing sites or scam sites.
173  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is GRIN still a thing? on: January 05, 2024, 01:42:08 PM
Governments will look at Monero first because if Bitcoin is a King of cryptocurrency market. Monero is a King of Privacy coins and if governments want to break down privacy coins, they will aim at Monero first. I don't feel fearful about risk for GRIN as it will not be first target of government.

Grincoin used to be accepted as a payment method for Copper membership.

grin is now accepted for forum payments

Coinmarketcap hack leaked 3.1 million emails!

Two guides for that website and you can check an email address or a website domain.
175  Other / Meta / Re: Signature Campaigns in the Service Board on: January 04, 2024, 02:58:53 PM
To get the next block right now you need 60+ sat/vbyte. It still very expensive. Consider a transaction with a few input and a few outputs, you will need to spend over $20 for the transaction.
I see but it is for very hurry transaction when need to be a tip of mempool. It is cheaper if waiting time is for like 1 hour or a few hours. I know even with fee rate like 50 or 40 sat/vbyte, it is still expensive and I miss times with fee rate like 1 to 3 sat/vbyte too.

However, it is cheaper than in December and managers, companies can afford to spend that fee and campaign participants can support to wait a few hours for a first confirmation. With risk of Ordinals return, managers can use RBF to bump fee later.
176  Other / Meta / Re: Signature Campaigns in the Service Board on: January 04, 2024, 01:43:18 PM
With this latest change, in a good way, of Bitcoin mempools, it is possible for campaign managers to proceed campaign payments with more feasible fee rates like 25 to 30 sat/vbyte.

Ordinals seem to cool down and I don't know when they will come back but probably won't too soon. With coming returns of campaigns back to Bitcoin, I think this discussion can be temporarily closed, before mempools congested with very expensive fee rates again and campaigns make some fluctuative payment methods again.

177  Other / Meta / Re: Why was the gambling risk warning removed? on: January 04, 2024, 11:52:18 AM
In what form do you mean the warning?
Probably OP meant about a sticky thread but I don't see any sticky thread about risk of Gambling.
[Bitcointalk sticky threads] Newbies - read before starting.
Cadaver20 could miss that sticky thread or that sticky thread has never existed and OP remembered about something different.

178  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🔥🔥🔥 BC.GAME - CASINO AND SPORTSBOOK | $1,000 GIVEAWAY LIVE! 🔥🔥🔥 on: January 04, 2024, 11:45:39 AM
There is a clear trend that more and more traditional crypto companies are also becoming prominent advertising partners in traditional sports. Sportsbet.io, for example, is still an official partner of Arsenal London. BC.Game's deal with the AFA (Argentine Football Association) is certainly just as interesting: BC.GAME is now the Crypto Casino Sponsor of the Argentine Football Association
Now does not mean just today, a week ago, but it is some months ago. I think if you edit the url title to time of that announcement rather than Now, it will express better information. Readers will not confuse that BC.Game only get the partnership recently. It is already four months ago.

Quote
In general, such deals not only ensure that classic crypto companies become known to people who previously had little or no connection to crypto, but also that crypto companies are generally better accepted and move out of the light of "dubious companies".
It is a good signal and can help a business to build up its reputation but if you are carefully, you must check more. A lesson from FTX and Terra are still hot enough to recall and learn from those fiascos. I see BC.Game are doing good and hope that they will expand their business more and in healthy, sustainable ways.
179  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is just happened on the Bitcoin Market? on: January 03, 2024, 01:53:16 PM
A convenient time for another purchase begins; those who have been waiting should take advantage of it. And yes, there is no such thing as Bitcoin going up forever; we've seen it many times, so a decline is likely. But why does everyone trust Greeks and Matrixport? When did they manage to turn into clairvoyants - analysts?
We can not trust them and previous rumor that Bitcoin Spot ETFs will be approved this year, in just few more days. All are rumors to make the market participants become greed and fearful.

Time flies so fast and time will help us to know the fact and decision of SEC. At the moment, we can not verify and be sure about anything regards to Bitcoin Spot ETFs.

The only thing we are sure is Bitcoin halving will happen in Q2 2024. Make our investment plan with halving is better and simply think that Bitcoin Spot ETF is something to happen or not this year. But don't think it is a biggest contributor for Bitcoin bull run in 2024 and 2025.
180  Other / Meta / Re: New Year = New Password (...and new you, too!) on: December 31, 2023, 10:27:23 AM
It is scary the way some people take the security of this forum as if it is their bank account or crypto wallet, and I must say that I have never witnessed such before in any of the many forums I had participated in about 2 decades.
It is for forum account security, not forum security if I understand to context correctly.

Quote
The frequent change of password might be good but I believe is on what has to do with money or vital information per se, not even when we are already blessed with 2FA as an additional security measure.

For this, I don't see myself changing this soon but rely on the 2FA in 2024.
If you consider your account here is important, you will have to secure it strongly enough.

Because you can use your account for working, getting BTC here.
Your account, if compromised, will be possibly sold, used to scam other forum members.

Nothing is bad if a forum member is serious about an account security.
