If someone has to pay for downloading torrents nobody will use a system like that.

If what you were saying was true then Netflix wouldn't exist. People pay for what they want, and if they can't find it legally then they'll find it through other methods and pay if necessary.
164  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VTR] vTorrent - Share with freedom | 2FA | HD | @Bittrex on: December 01, 2016, 03:04:53 PM

If someone has a choice of offering free and earning a little to share then which one do you think they will choose?

the torrent community gives a shit about earning money, pirate groups are not there for the money, the whole point of piracy is something else, surely is not money

and, if you expect mass usage of this platform, have you imagined the legal implications of earning money for uploading protected material?

Regardless, have you seen the past few pages of this discussion? You're sitting here 2 weeks after what.cd--the largest music tracker on the planet got shuttered plus when a number of other raids have occurred.

Go back and read some of my posts where I've discussed what benefits an incentivized model could bring (i.e. making sure older content is still shared)

As for legal issues, vTorrent is just software like BitTorrent. The end user decides how they use it.

i really don't understand what's the point of a crypto currency in relation with torrents

do you have to pay to share/download torrents? if yes, why on earth should i do that when i can get any torrent for free and in a safe way?
do i get coins for uploads? who pays me?

my company is working on some torrent client prototype (cannot write details) and i'm curious to know more about this coin

Because torrents aren't "free"; bandwidth is not "free".
There has also been a sustained attempt at shutting down torrent-related websites over the past decade; which has increased significantly in the past few weeks.

There are also torrent trackers and communities that have been hit by legal consequences; without sustained communities torrents will die off (never entirely, but the idea of BitTorrent being "content rich" could easily fade away after some time).

vTorrent is best described as a project that will incentivize the torrent network.

That's the vtorrent dev. You're already running software that he's written so the "safe to use" question is a bit misguided.

So is your reassurance. You cannot demonstrate either statement is true.

Cheers

Graham

Yes, that is technically true I suppose.

I'll add 1000 to the guessing pool--so the total should be 1101. 101 coming from coins101 and 1000 coming from me.

Coins101 can choose the winner.

The buying support is only 11BTC.
However, the selling support has 374BTC, too.:-@

That's basically because people aren't willing to sell the coin at current prices. There seems to be a lot of demand that is steadily increasing, but most people around here probably simply don't want to hawk their coins off at low prices. This is a long-term bet and not a short-term bet like most of the altcoins around.

If you're in to VTR its because you likely believe in the concept of torrents/cryptocurrency and that it will do well once it hits.

If you read every single page, you'll see that some hodlers around here think it will go above $80m, and keep going.

150m - 300m monthly BitTorrent users, suddenly get the option of public access to good seeders. All you need is 1m of those and you've basically got as many users as all the altcoins on coinmarketcap.

What has DASH got, 10k users? XMR, 10k? ETH, 20k? Now add up their market caps.

It also very much depends how you define "users"

Sure, bitcoin because its so valuable has "users".

Anonymous cryptocurrency #632? Not so much, because there is no real purpose besides speculation.

Storage based coins may have real users, however this is still very, very, very, very limited in scope.

Bittorrent >< Cryptocurrency will likely bring on a huge wave of new users into the ecosystem; least of all because the price of entry will be so low. You won't need a Chinese mining farm or a stack of sick 1337 graphics card. The only price to play the game will be to have bandwidth. There are numerous places on earth where gigabit internet is horrendously cheap and the minimum salary is ridiculously not worth it.

Should make for an interesting situation.

Also another note that Cryptoguru only ever displays nodes on a certain port which is why it only shows 5 or so active connections out of 22+
172  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VTR] vTorrent - Share with freedom | 2FA | HD | @Bittrex on: November 29, 2016, 04:18:45 PM
Remove the ports from all the nodes.  Just put it addresses.

What are ports? Can u writte a sample?

change
addnode=x.x.x.x:1234

to
addnode=x.x.x.x

To be honest, as much as its not ideal that this isn't open to more novice technical levels that is where crypto is at right now. Perhaps with more wallet upgrades in the near future things will improve greatly.

I have 22 nodes connected, a record I believe.

Also another note is that unless you have set windows explorer/mac os X to display ALL FILE EXTENSIONS then everything anyone says here is pretty much a moot point.

i.e. if you open your folder where the vtorrent program is and it just says "vtorrent" and not "vtorrent.exe" you're probably doing things wrong.
175  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VTR] vTorrent - Share with freedom | 2FA | HD | @Bittrex on: November 28, 2016, 06:48:29 PM
You also need to make sure that no firewall is blocking the client from working (that includes your router and not just your operating system)

Also the vtorrent.conf file cannot be a word document; you have to be able to open in notepad and see clear formatting. If you've made the document in anything like MS Word etc then it won't work unless you save it in a specific way.

EDIT: Food for thought; can dev please make available a .conf file with peers (because he is the trusted party here) so that people can download it, shove it where it needs to go and get it running

Hey Dev,
When you get a chance can you please issue an "official" bootstrap?

I don't mind to do it, but because I'm just a user people won't trust it.

Thanks.

~32 BTC (~$24000) volume on Bittrex within last 24 hours
~800K VTR volume

8th largest market on Bittrex

Wow my client has 18 connections.

Highest I've seen.

That EA software guy has been tweeting like crazy about vTorrent.

If he keeps this pace up, we'll have a lot more people on board soon.

https://twitter.com/AgentSoft

Any Slack plans guys?
Another question. If vtorrent will be free to
Use what will make its currency gain value then?

Slack is a big no no, they just changed their terms of service, the people who set up the channel are now liable for what content gets posted. Not ideal for a torrent channel, just wait till we get group chat through the client

Yes it will be free to use just like any other client.

As for what gives it value? Off the top of my head, how about selling access to private trackers. Selling access to to rare files or 1080, 4K files or access to that nasty pig porn.
that's the problem with slack so its nice to create a group who's interest is to help developing vtorrent and bring more and more investors
as we knew that this project is really a big one to watched out just needed more and more exposures and for sure it will bring more profits
value will dictate itself.

We are currently at aprox 10.814.000 coins. How long
Will take to reach 20mil as final coin count?

If I recall correctly, like 100 years or some ridiculous number. Not anytime soon at least.

A complaint from the MPAA has led the cyber-crime division of Ukraine's National Police to raid FS.to, one of the country's most popular pirate sites. Thus far 60 servers have been seized and 19 people have been arrested, but police fear the site could reappear since some individuals are on the run and a mirror site may be standing by in Russia.

Serving more than a million users every day, FS.to was one of Ukraine’s largest pirate sites. Ranked the country’s 21st most popular site overall, the movie-focused platform attracted the attention of the MPAA and local rights holders alike. That has resulted in one of the biggest raids ever seen in the country.
