I am sure I won't surprise anyone here... but please let me state the obvious once again: This is fine.

Yeah... please... don't.
164  Other / Meta / Re: Moderator deletion of serious discussion in the Wall Observer on: November 14, 2020, 02:15:15 PM
I (YMMV) would try not to make a big deal of it. While we do, indeed, have "special rules" in the WO that gives us some flexibility... the context in which that exception was granted is also important.

By context I mean the time in which we risked losing the WO because of the conflict between its ermmm "ample scope way beyond the OP" and "standard" moderation rules.

Thus, in a genious move, Theymos not only allowed us to propose/elect a new active "OP" but also decided to create that rule as some sort of "patch" that would let the WO-as-we-knew-it to continue its existence under the condition that it would not "become problematic again".

Such "patch" (along with disabling personal signatures to avoid account farmers spamming the thread) did wonders and have allowed to keep enjoying our "little space" for several years already without much problems.

So... consider it what it is (a "patch") and do not expect 100% reliability nor a totally unlimited "license-to-post" offtopic. As you well said, this is a "private forum" in the end.

That being said... Well... Yeah, seems that maybe you crossed your path with an overzelous moderator. Still I would not make a big deal if one (or several) of my off-topic/shitposts were to be deleted unless the occurrence of it suggested some sort of focused discrimination/censorship.

Infofront could go and start removing ALL offtopic posts if he wanted to, as that would be in compliance even with the "special rules". Forum moderators should not... or at least it is not their job anymore (see "special rules") but... well... Shit happens.

Now back to the "important things": $16K again. This is fine.
165  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 13, 2020, 01:55:27 PM
please do. will it be a "sod off" announcement and split immediately or will he give the traditional two weeks notice (or whatever).

It's going to take Rick at least a couple months to transition away cleanly.

Presently looks like he's targeting end of February for retirement, to coincide with a final round of stock vesting.

It'll be done completely above board and professionally.

Congrats to you both! Achievement unlocked! Even if Bitcoin price will keep surging... you bought TIME which is another (even more) scarce thing.

Now enjoy life with Rick, and also the exciting Bitcoin journey with your remaining stash in the years to come.

Cheers!

It's not insider trading if it's filed according to the rules. Keeping it a secret and then sell on the insider news would have been insider trading.

Of course it is not insider trading as the sale was part of a selling program prearranged since a long time.
Those guys “don’t go to the bathroom without a plan” and for sure the move was authorised by a bunch of laser to make sure it didn’t break any rule.

The trick here is to make the announcement at the right time: just before the prearranged sale.

It wouldn't matter. It seems it was a limit sell order that was triggered that day because of the announce. Also he only got like 600K€ more than it was previously. I don't know what that guy's yearly salary is, but probably it dwarfs that amount and it wouldn't make sense to take any risk (for that relative amount I mean).
167  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 12, 2020, 02:22:00 PM
roach and our guy Proudhon are incomparable. a nazi vs a bear that has scientific proof (confirmed!) for bitcoin going to $200 is not the same. I really do believe gembitz and Proudhon are the biggest btc whales in here. if I had 5k btc I would contribute with the same magnitude of deepness to this forum as them.

I really can't wait for the day to come when I will log on bitcointalk only every once in a while just to say "Weeee weeeeeeeeeeeee". Happy times that will surely be.

Soon.

On a separate note: do you rember the conspirancy theory about Pfizer coming out with a vaccine news just three days after the election?

They are a complete nonsense.
Proof:

Pfizer's CEO cashed out 60% of his stock on the same day the company unveiled the results of its COVID-19 vaccine trial

Quote
  • Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla sold 62% of his stock in the company on the same day the drugmaker announced the results of its COVID-19 vaccine trial.
  • Bourla sold $5.6 million in stock on Monday as part of a predetermined trading plan adopted August 19.
  • His stock sale was carried out at $41.94 a share. The 52-week-high for Pfizer stock is $41.99, which means the CEO cashed out his shares at close to their highest price this year.

You greatly overestimate the importance of the elections:

Quote from: Mark Twain
‘If Voting Made a Difference, They Wouldn’t Let Us Do It’

Greed makes the world turn.

Well... Unless he also bought soon before the news came out OR he knows the vaccine doesn't live to expectations I guess there's not much to see here. Surely he will be watched closely anyways.

Also... only $5.6 millions? Bleh.

We are talking about an "insider info" worth countless billions globally.

It's happening!

May I present...the MS Satoshi.

Nice! TBH I was wondering how much different would the real ship be from the renderings (and expecting worse)... But I must say it looks they were very accurate. Congrats!

C'on guys. Some respect to the fallen in battle. Their sacrifice led us hodlers to where we are today. Our hodling will lead us to where we will be "tomorrow".

Also, I find very amusing the lack of rockets, trains and spaceships. This is fine.

174  Economy / Speculation / Re: [WO] Panic mind-virus on: October 13, 2020, 01:29:24 AM

The trick with Covid is it is so contagious that just about all of us are going to get it.  And that means that <1% who it kills?  There are a lot of them.

That hearkens back to my own first public statement on Covid.  Guess what, 100.0% of humans die—and as you yourself noted, people are going to get Covid anyway.

Obsessive fear of Death destroys life, especially if it parlays a not-very-scary Plague into very-scary Famine.  And/or War.

Dear readers of the forum:

Some of you will die from the coronavirus.  (—Some few of you:  The virus has low lethality except to the aged or otherwise frail.)  The virus may kill me, too; maybe, maybe not.  That is acceptable:  Life is risk, and death is a part of life.  My only sadness is that sometimes, the worst befalls the best of people.

What is unacceptable is panic, bureaucratic “do something!” tyranny, and worst of all, hybris.

I hereby use an archaic spelling for the subject of a principle long forgot.

The biggest problem is not the death rate even if it is not negligible. 1% average with older people amounting to most of it is maybe not something that scary (I always say that this covid thing basically doubles your particular yearly chances to die IF and WHEN you get infected). The real issue is that we do rely on things like the medical service which can (and have temporarily been) be overwhelmed if too many people get infected at the same time.

So... if some people can't wait for a vaccine or better treatment to reduce those rates... maybe we could ask they be considerate enough to TRY to delay their individual infection (and probability of needing treatment plus risk of infecting others) so that it is not that much of burden?

We can cope with a 1% additional mortality rate spread over a few years. Certainly we are not prepared to cope with it if it happens in a much shorter timeframe (ie a few months). Not without paying a big price.

I think of myself to be in a somewhat middle position between deniers and panickers but I still do think some measures like masks, social distancing and common sense are not that much to ask to avoid making this a bigger issue than it would need to be.

We are all going to die... eventually. Just try to maintain some order in the queue and wait for your turn. Don't rush it.

Yay or nay ? Rick and I are wondering.

Da fuck?!
176  Economy / Speculation / Re: [WO] Encrypt, or fork off! on: September 25, 2020, 02:58:48 PM
Edit:  Dabs, there you go, pre-empting me while I am writing a post and multitasking:
2. Snail mail is usually in sealed envelopes.

My general policy is that if you don’t want to use end-to-end encrypted communications, which are easier to use than ever before (with so many things available that are easier than using gpg in the terminal!), it means that you do not want to talk to me.  Bye!  Although that is not always practical to enforce in business matters, I actually cut people out of my personal life over this.

...make even minimal effort to talk to you.

Reminds me of Snowden. He kinda forced the media who were trying to help him at the time he was escaping to Hong Kong or thereabouts (according to the movies about him); encrypt or don't say anything.

I would argue that in the case of PMs (private messages) on this board, only the admins can easily read them if they were unencrypted. Mods do not have that power. The whole site goes through https, so ... there is some encryption going on, just not really end-to-end person to person. So who can read PMs here? Basically theymos and a handful of other admins, and anyone who compels them to.

So encrypt your PMs, no one can read them for sure.

Cloudflare.

As I sit here in the night thinking, I must admit that I'm getting a strange feeling of racing against time.
I'm just not entirely sure that the world as I know it will last until the next ATH in Q4 2021, and I really want to cash out enough money to be able to get the hell out if TSHTF.

Well, if it is not gonna last (as you know it) even until Q4 2021... Why the need to cash out for? What is your EXIT-PLAN?

Well, all the neighboring countries are pretty stable, so all I have to do is go across the bridge to Denmark,I don't really need any elaborate exit plan.
But the Swedish politicians and elite seems to have awaken abruptly recently, since the violence spread into the middle class and upper class areas.
Now everybody is talking about and planning for stricter laws, even deporting foreigners before they have committed any crime, just because they belong to a certain group or clan.
Repatriating those who are not real refugees is also on the table. Things are moving fast here right now, and it almost happened overnight. So there still is a chance to stop the balkanization of Sweden.

Even if I don't have any idea of how is the situation in Sweden, that makes more sense. I mean, I thought when you said "world as I know it" you really meant about the whole world. Of course there will always be better places/countries to be and money can really help you about that. Unless worldwide shit happens though. Who knows. TBH I think everything is "fine". We will see.

Peak bull run can’t come soon enough for me. I’d be happy to be on an island on my own, free from nonsense, draconian, communist type ruling that we seem to be living under atm. Nobody will be forcing me to wear a mask to go in a shop once we make bank.

Probably because there will be no shop nor anything else in that island and, even then, it would probably be cheaper to buy some piece of land way bigger than the island and with more services available.
