1601  Economy / Exchanges / Re: "Decentralized" exchange dYdX confirms blocking accounts linked to tonado cash on: August 15, 2022, 11:50:14 AM
True, every hype cycle is filled with the buzzy and trendy new names to the same old shady schemes. Only the intelligent few are always able to figure it out
Out of all the people who've posted in this thread thus far, I'm probably the least knowledgeable about the machinations of these things, i.e., what makes these so-called DEXes tick.  But goddamn, I've lived long enough to develop a keen sense of smell, and I can recognize the scent of bullshit from a mile away.  Sometimes I visit various altcoins' websites, and they all look very similar, with similar bewildering jargon (the second-layer, web 3.0, blahblahblahblah stuff), and without even knowing what the hell is being said I'm 99% sure it's designed to impress pants-shitting monkeys with little-to-no frontal cortex activity.

Oh, and it took me a while to realize just how centralized PoS altcoins are.  Those "community funds" a lot of them have seem to be just a big piggy bank that the devs and whoever else can use as their personal ATM.  Un-fuckin'-real.

There are reports of some people sending transactions from Tornado Cash to many well-known ETH addresses, including those belonging to various exchanges, and to various celebrities. This is something that will probably cause many exchanges to rethink how they handle customers who have received transactions from illicit sources, and may even lead to litigation surrounding "taint".
Yeah, I actually heard that on some news program.  Smart of those ETH-rich troublemakers to do that, because involving celebrities is probably the most efficient way to expose all of this nonsense.
1602  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Hotbit exchange suspends deposits, withdrawals and trading on: August 15, 2022, 11:27:58 AM
This part of the quote made me roll my eyes so hard, my optic nerves are probably damaged:

Quote
Hotbit hereby declares: Hotbit and the rest employees of Hotbit's management are not involved in the project and have no knowledge of the illegal information involved in the project. And we are still actively cooperating with the law enforcement authorities in their investigations. All user’s assets are safe.

So they're basically declaring their innocence on their home page, which I find to be bizarre at best (in addition to the brief explanation about some rogue member of Hotbit management).  If this isn't sketchy, then there's no definition of the term.

And what's up with this generic corporate-art piece:

Everything about this reeks of being unprofessional, and that's not even including the fact that they don't give anyone any idea of when customers' funds might become available for withdrawal, just that they're "safe".

Didn't some similar crap happen with Hotbit a year or two back, or am I confusing them with Hitbit or another similarly-named exchange?  I remember posting something about it, because I'd used the exchange once for an obscure altcoin (but I'd have to do some serious sifting of posts to find it, and I'm way too lazy for all that).
1603  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is this included in the account connection? on: August 15, 2022, 10:30:36 AM
In this case, I don't believe that this is sufficient proof that the accounts are connected.
It isn't sufficient proof, period.  There have been many examples of this kind of error being made by sloppy bounty hunters when they sign up.  So unless there's some other blockchain evidence linking these two accounts (which I wouldn't even bother looking for, because of what I just wrote), case closed.

The OP is a Junior Member who, along with newbies are banned from posting in the Known Alts Thread for this very reason posting feeble "evidence" that doesn't hold up to scrutiny.
Lol, I didn't realize you banned noobs from posting in that thread.  Probably a good call, though.
1604  Other / Politics & Society / Re: High inflation is causing GLOBAL protests on: August 15, 2022, 09:28:04 AM
If proctest would have been helpful ..... everyone would have been protesting and getting their demands full filled.
But this is not no solution the only solution is to get financial freedom and earn as much as you could.
Great fuckin' words of wisdom there, dude.

I'm reading the last page of this thread, and it's filled with shitposts talking about bounties or in extreme generalities such that there's no meaning to what's being written.  OP, you might want to lock this thread up.

As for the protesting, I'm not sure what it's accomplished in the month since this thread was started, although I'm all for people's right to take to the streets and make noise.  Unfortunately, that might be the only effect it has.  Whether the people behind the monetary policy in any given country are elected or not, the average person who gets hit the worst by inflation has very little power or influence and can't do much to help the problem.

But what else is new?  The world has been through many inflationary cycles before, and this one will have an end point eventually.  How much financial pain we all have to endure in the meantime is anyone's guess.
1605  Other / Meta / Re: [TOP-200] The most generous users giving merits on: August 15, 2022, 04:21:32 AM
Code:
@Pharmacist - He is helping low rank members to reach their next possible rank and gives out 3,5,2 merits upto the limit in one go on different posts of that person
Yeah, if you take a look at my merit-giving history you'll often find that I'm meriting one member up to the limit of 50, and that's usually because someone has taken me up on my offer to do a post history review.  It'd be much, much easier if I were to simply give all 50 merits to a single post instead of spreading it out the way I do....but then I'm sure people would get suspicious or bitch about how "that post didn't deserve 50 merits!!" and such.

Thankfully the members who have reached out to me for post history reviews aren't shitposters and there's only been one or two times where I've had to tell someone to really step up their effort before I'd give them any merits.  Back when actmyname and a couple of other members had threads where members could basically ask for merits for posts they'd made, many of them were straight-up shitposters.  *Whew*  That was a long time ago, now that I think about it.

I probably should start giving out a higher number of merits per transaction, because I'm not running into the problem of being short of sMerits anymore, and I've accumulated enough earned ones that I could probably give 4-5 merits for an average post instead of 2-3.  Nobody would object to that, right?
1606  Other / Meta / Re: Campaign to improve posting quality for local boards on: August 15, 2022, 03:24:16 AM
I chuckled inside when I read this:

Quote
Excessive advertising for dangerous (centralized / scammy) Shitcoins, such like Ripple, Tron or Libra (Facebook)

Admittedly, I don't visit the altcoin section that much, but do people actually advertise coins like the above (with the exception of Libra, which died in the womb)?  I'm assuming it's the hyping up of shitcoins that's frowned upon, but do members do that to the point of it being annoying?

And oh, that pyramid-quote suggestion....that's more important than you think.  I swear, if someone quotes a bunch of text that need not have been quoted, I'll often not even consider meriting that post, even if it's decent.  People don't like to scroll through shit they shouldn't have to, so that's an excellent point.

Overall, this is a great initiative and I wish you guys luck with it.  I'm glad you defined "Denglisch", because I had no idea what that is, and the link to the wiki page is all in German (which I can't read).
1607  Other / Meta / Re: The DT system needs to change. on: August 15, 2022, 02:52:20 AM
About 27 users joined that poll, which is a low number to generalize the opinion of the community.
That's likely because most people who really care about this issue have been around a long time and realize how futile polls are.

At this point I'm almost indifferent about the trust system as a whole.  It's so broken, so unnecessarily complicated with flags and red/green/black feedback, trust lists, default trust, etc., that I just don't care anymore.  I'm not sure if Theymos designed it or what, but the whole thing is like some Rube Goldberg contraption an engineering student made as a project to impress his teacher.

Plus I'm pretty sure nothing works as intended anymore.  Bounty managers don't even care if their participants have red trust, and that ought to tell you something about how the system is viewed by the average user who doesn't give a flying fuck about bitcointalk.

I think I'm going to clear my trust list tonight.  Just wipe it clean.

There is a huge passive majority of DT1 members who don't seem to care whom they include or how the trust system is used. And even if the more active minority tries to mitigate some of the garbage (e.g. by excluding self-scratchers) it doesn't really work that well due to the lottery.

Don't get me wrong, I support the idea of making it more difficult to get into DT (DT2 in particular) but I think it's a band aid for a broken leg.
Hear, hear, my dear.
1608  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitcoin ATMs with no PhotoID in Australia on: August 14, 2022, 11:04:58 PM
CoinATMRadar shows you 70 different ATMs in Australia. See here: https://coinatmradar.com/country/13/bitcoin-atm-australia/
Wow....that's not that many compared to the US, and I'm kind of surprised there aren't more than that.

As to OP's question, I've visited a few BTCATMs around where I live (they seem to be everywhere nowadays), and I'm pretty sure all of them have a camera pointing at you.  Even if its function is to scan an address's QR code, you'd have to assume that it's also taking a picture of you as well unless you know otherwise.  There was one I used that required a picture ID, but the rest of them didn't.

The whole BTCATM scene is kind of a grey area right now, at least as far as I can tell, and whether a certain machine will require KYC docs basically depends on who the operator is--and there are many of them.
1609  Economy / Reputation / Re: My Ignorelist + 1 question on: August 14, 2022, 10:12:22 PM
It's not easy to just tune out posts from some members, especially if they are creating many topics with empty discussion.
No, you're definitely right about that.  I have an extensive ignore list, and I just added 325btc to it because of all the vapid, stupid threads he's been creating.  I'm 99.9% sure he's an alt of Polo7 and a few other accounts, all of which I have on ignore as well.  Aside from that I don't add too many members to it anymore, because I found out through time and experience that I just can't keep up with all the new accounts posting idiotic nonsense.

Not trying to put every shitposter on ignore makes it easier to report their posts, if you're into that kind of thing.
I'm not incredibly active in reporting, but that's a good reason to ignore the ignore function.
Ideally, if you're an active reporter and want to use the ignore function, you can report a few posts by a shitposter and then put that member on ignore.  After that, you've done your part and the person is either going to get banned or they're not.  It wouldn't make sense to keep reporting their posts if the mods aren't going to take action.
1610  Economy / Reputation / Re: The most influential people of the forum. Who are they? on: August 14, 2022, 06:52:33 PM
In my opinion, from what I have seen personally in this forum:

Hhampuz should be the most influential individual. He controls most of the sponsor money and decides who gets it, which is more important than merit for a lot here. Unfortunately, it is an evil influence. People get scammed regularly in the platforms he promotes, sometimes for big amounts of money.
Say what?  I've got mad respect for Hhampuz, but the fact that he manages bounties/campaigns really shouldn't be a factor in this discussion--nor is it Hhampuz himself who's scamming those members you're talking about (whoever they are).  If a project ends up being a scam or doesn't pay out its spammers bounty hunters, that's not his fault, nor is Hhampuz the only manager who's been in that situation (even though I'm not even sure which situation(s) you're referring to).

Just because your things did not go well with FJ does not mean the forum lost it's credibility. This is a place to promote bitcoin not to prevent scams and spammers.
Ah, that might explain the bitterness even if I'm still unclear on the details of what happened.  Nevertheless, I doubt Hhampuz is to blame for whatever happened to PaperWallet.
1611  Other / Meta / Re: merit point release on: August 14, 2022, 05:53:11 PM
3. by whome merit points are released to the forum??
AFAIK, if previously 111 merit sources were appointed to distribute merit, now only 110. I don't know who is missing, but they are contributors that are selectively appointed by the admin.
Merit sources come and go, I would imagine.  Some of the ones that Theymos tapped back in 2019 might have become inactive, as they never applied to be merit sources--and then there's always the chance that some of them simply aren't as active on the forum anymore or aren't as active in spreading merits around.  I don't even know when the last time Theymos made someone a merit source, but I really wish he'd create some more--especially on the local boards.

Here, another fact is much more interesting. The OP has a neutral tag that says he's violating the rule of ban evasion, but he's so naive that he just doesn't care why this happened to him. Why was his first or twenty-first account banned? And why shouldn't he be on the forum at the moment either?
Lol.  Why do people draw attention to themselves like this?  And yeah, a better question would be about why OP's even still posting anything at all.  Hopefully a mod will see this and take appropriate action.
1612  Economy / Reputation / Re: The most influential people of the forum. Who are they? on: August 13, 2022, 09:54:50 AM
<snip>
Nice analysis--and not just because you included me in your list; few members would take the time to write out detailed explanations for a question/poll like this.  All of those people who whine about not earning merits should take note of posts like yours.  They're the ones that catch the attention of merit sources (and other members who like handing out merits).

Excluding myself, I'd say your list is pretty spot-on.  Everyone is influenced by different people, but in general those members you listed have strong personalities and make their presence known--and they have well-earned reputations, too.  I'm not particularly fond of OgNasty, but I'm not going to deny his influence on the forum.

I'm just gutted you guys don't have special guests on occasion, unless I'm just not up to the standard of those guests, which would be totally understandable.
Have you seen the movie Eyes Wide Shut?  Damn fine flick, one of Kubrick's best (IMO) and his final one, too.  If you have seen it, think of the Cycling Club gatherings as similar to the one Tom Cruise snuck into and nearly got gang raped to death.  Foxpup's role is akin to the red masked character--and I'm going to leave it at that.  Should you ever get an invitation, you'll need to find an excellent costumer.

1613  Other / Meta / Re: A Possible Improved DT1 System Proposal. on: August 13, 2022, 06:42:31 AM
OP, it's obvious you put a lot of thought into your proposal and I appreciate that, but it seems like your idea would make the DT system more complicated than it is, and if I understand it correctly, would require people to vote regularly.  If that's correct, it'd be a huge turn-off to me.  I much prefer a system that runs by itself and doesn't require active participation to keep it running.  There's no way in hell I'm going to update my trust list every month, especially if there are 100 members to be considered.

In fact, aside from me contemplating doing what Yahoo62278 did and blanking my trust list altogether, I'd rather not make any changes to it unless something happens that necessitates a change.

And honestly, I think Theymos ought to just go back to the way things used to be, once upon a time when the default trust list meant something, and being added to it was far more of an accomplishment than it is these days.
1614  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What coins to mine with 2GB GPUs? on: August 13, 2022, 04:07:32 AM
Hate to bump a dead horse, but since I was fooling around with a Frankenstein build consisting of old parts I had sitting around (including an RX 550 2GB GPU) I tried searching for DAG sizes of coins and found this thread.

So anyway, just wanted to add that Neoxa can easily be mined with a 2GB card.  I have no clue what its prospects are--though I suspect it'll end up in the Yobit 1-satoshi graveyard eventually--but it's been on people's radar lately since it's one of the more profitable coins to mine with 4GB cards.

Too bad it's only listed on a couple of crappy exchanges, but whatever.
1615  Other / Meta / Re: Spam reserved post, edit later to hit post quota is back on: August 13, 2022, 02:55:42 AM
I just reported a couple of posts by mm2543363580 which consisted of "..", so obviously this shit is still an ongoing problem.

Oddly enough, the main reason I noticed this was because I browse the forum by looking at my unread threads page, and the above joker had been the last poster in multiple recent threads and that prompted me to take a look at what he was doing.  Anyone else noticing members posting ellipses as placeholders?
1616  Economy / Economics / Re: Idea if you struggle in your life but u speak english on: August 13, 2022, 12:24:15 AM
OP, I'm convinced you start up all these threads so that your alt accounts/friends/family members have some place they can drop shitposts in.  What you wrote is nearly incomprehensible, yet the first three replies just treat your post like it was just a totally normal one--which it is NOT.

Contact with crypto gold oil whales they are big hedge funds such us grayscale tell them how much they need from you ? And how much profit you make ? So thet can use your capital to pump markets and also for big money u get inside info from them.
What does any of that even mean?

Now days few hundred thousend are small becouse look how expensive is to rent or buy apartment in monaco...or dubai its expensive so big money should be mandatory to have it in your pocket thats dont waste ur time for nonsense banks knows MONEY whales and funds insturuins knows money you connect them and taking profit snd while you might be out of work thats the best if u got no skills or education little bit english is good enough.
Again, what the fuck are you blabbering on about?  None of what you wrote makes one lick of sense.  You're going on my ignore list, just like the rest of your alt accounts.
1617  Economy / Reputation / Re: One flew over the cuckoo's nest on: August 12, 2022, 02:17:16 AM
I just wanted to add my own custom subject title.
Seriously.  I'm just waiting for the big Indian to tear the sink out and throw it through the window so we can all escape this nuttiness.

The flag is a valid one IMO, and I think I stated as much previously.  And to 16xypjnxlrew, you can argue your case until hell freezes over and you're still never going to get support--so just quit now while you're only a little bit behind.  If you keep drawing attention to yourself, it's only going to be bad attention, and I say that based on experience with other members who keep blabbering on in the face of no support and an untenable argument.
1618  Economy / Reputation / Re: Clearing my trust list on: August 11, 2022, 07:40:20 PM
I think you're missing BitcoinGirl.Club's point;  I interpret her post as speculation that JollyGood would accuse those listed as a clique, or trolls.  I don't think anyone has accused JollyGood (or you, for that matter) of trolling.
You could be right about that, and it might just be a language misunderstanding (on my part), but BitcoinGirl.Club did lump me in with the rest of what I thought they were saying was the group JollyGood considered trolls and/or abusers of the DT system.  Regardless, that's not something that'll eat away at my soul or cause me to lose a minute of sleep.  Spine of steel, don't you know.

You compared JollyGood to a status-seeking politician, which I found interesting, as I'd never considered he came across that way.  I figured he might be trying to gain a reputation by tagging a bunch of members who may or may not be involved with shady stuff, but I've never observed him to curry favor with anyone.  Even after our communication, he continued to do the same old stuff that led me to remove him from my trust list, so it isn't as if he listened to whatever I wrote (which I don't remember and haven't checked to see if I still have our PMs).

I'm still pondering whether I should follow Yahoo62278 and clear my list.  It's not a small decision to make IMO.
1619  Economy / Reputation / Re: Clearing my trust list on: August 11, 2022, 05:48:14 PM
After looking at how several cliques and trolls manipulate the system to suit their own agenda
<snip>
I propose these cliques and trolls are  BitcoinGirl.Club, NeuroticFish, tranthidung, LoyceV, Poker Player, dragonvslinux, DireWolfM14, dkbit98, The Pharmacist.
I hope I'm not included in JollyGood's list of cliques and trolls, serving my own agenda by manipulating the system.  For one thing, I don't have an agenda with respect to my trust list other than to do what I think is best for the forum.  I've communicated with JollyGood since I excluded him, and if I recall correctly I explained to him why I did it and that there were no hard feelings, just that I thought there were too many questionable feedbacks he'd left for others.

And I certainly don't think I'm a troll, and hopefully JollyGood doesn't see me that way.  I haven't done any trolling lately, and if I had a list of targets of trolling he wouldn't be on it.

There have always been groups of members who tend to see things (like JollyGood's feedback-giving accuracy) the same way and are pretty vocal about it.  It was that way when Lauda and Vod were active, but it's not like there's any behind-the-scenes collusion AFAIK.  I'm definitely not included if there is.
1620  Economy / Economics / Re: Russia's economy is 'imploding' on export decline, economists claim on: August 10, 2022, 08:22:49 AM
War certainly makes a direct impact on the economic sector, and if there are reports that say export explosions occur then it is reasonable, but I'm sure market law will always work so that a country that is very dependent on Russia will continue to buy and not care about the embargo or economy sanction.
"Export explosions"?  Dude, did you understand anything about the quote in the OP?  I don't think there's a language misinterpretation on your part; I think you're just shitposting.

This thread was from May, and I haven't been keeping up with what's going on between Russia and Ukraine, but by no means have I heard any horror stories about famine in Russia (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, and I'll admit I haven't read all the posts in this thread), so I don't think their economy imploded.

I also agree with those who said the article was a political one more so than a typical academic economics piece.  Whether there was a Polish author or not, it's hard to keep personal worldviews out of an article like this one.  Not impossible, though.
