1641  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SuperNET - ICO conducted by BTER + ... on: September 10, 2014, 04:14:24 PM
Valid concerns.  For many people unfamiliar with Nxt, SuperNet, and James writing, I do think it would be a good idea to have a clear and concise summary as to what SuperNet is and what they are trying to accomplish.  I am very familiar with Nxt and James and I had some difficulty figuring out exactly what SuperNet is.  The OP is filled info on how to invest, and James ideology, but nothing really clear as to what SuperNet is in layman terms.

Exactly my point, thank you. Doesn't even have to be in layman terms -- terms that the average bitcoiner like me understands should be sufficient.

Apologies, the post in question seems to have been removed from OP. It was a simple summary. It can be found at http://nxter.org/supernet-ico-has-started/ but, just for you, I will paste it here.
By the way, it looks like you are doing your due diligence well from the BTCD thread. Good for you.

About SuperNET

http://209.126.70.170/SuperNET.pdf summarises SuperNET
Prospective participants are encouraged to read this brief document in full! Any unanswered questions are likely to be addressed there.

SuperNET is a new initiative designed to:

Unite disparate cryptocurrencies by fostering collaboration
Reward innovation, talent and active coin communities
Share resulting benefits with CORE members and extend advantages to all cryptocurrencies
Bring value to long-term SuperNET participants

SuperNET will bring together a number of promising cryptocurrencies with strong tech. These CORE currencies will be able to share each others’ features through a combined wallet (based on the NXT wallet). Several additional revenue-generating services will be included in SuperNET, from targeted advertising and transaction fees from anonymity protocols to betting revenues and trading gains. Any revenues raised will be used to reward SuperNET holders, strengthen CORE coin communities by investing in development, and make improvements to other key areas of the cryptocurrency ecosystem.

The price of SuperNET will be backed by its underlying cryptocurrencies. It will aim to acquire 10 percent of those coins it includes in the CORE (currently BTCD and BBR, as well as in investment in NXT-related assets). This means the price is protected from falls as holders are unlikely to sell it for less than the value of these underlying currencies. SuperNET is not a coin and this is unlike any other coin launch held to date. Additional funds will not dilute SuperNET but give it more influence and purchasing power.

The majority of funds provided by participants will be held long-term until they are needed. Additional revenue-generating services are included for free and are not included in the book price – despite offering immediate additional value.

SuperNET is not a cryptocurrency and does not intend to replace any cryptocurrency, including Bitcoin. As the name UNITY suggests, the philosophy of SuperNET is that cryptocurrency will be stronger if we pool resources and share strong tech, instead of assuming the same zero-sum mentality carried over from parts of the fiat economy. Clones and coins that do not offer unique features will not be included in SuperNET.

Coming late to the party, too lazy to read through ~100 pages of thread.
Any good discussion out there about supernet? Tech. summary, pro and cons?
Thanks.

Tech: The best.
Summary: Buy.
Pro: earn money.
Cons: none.

Yeah, that was kinda what I expected of this.

Read the summary in the OP, at least? If not the SuperNET doc (see OP) which tells you, actually, what the quote above does, just in more detail and how it will go about it.

how do I volunteer? just msg me if you need help. PR?
PR is always good, any PR you can get is much appreciated.

James

Did you catch this one? I think it fell through the cracks.

Been in the OP for a while

So it is. My bad.
I think there should be more coming via NXTer soon.
1644  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BitcoinDark (BTCD)--Sha-256/PoW-PoS hybrid/Bounty Opportunities on: September 10, 2014, 08:07:36 AM
Yes it will use the same folder. So if you want to do it rename the roaming folder then make a new folder with the same name. Copy the wallet.dat and conf file to the new folder then run the new exe.

Thanks. I think I will stick with my working 5.3.0 until otherwise recommended. Smiley
Incidentally, this is one of the entry barriers to crypto. Almost no one would have the patience for all this. I have high hopes for the SuperWallet, but a SuperWeb site will probably be required for mass adoption, along the lines of NXT's secureae site. Or better, a mobile SuperApp.
I'm guessing James has thought about these already Smiley

You are not an idiot, a lot have had the same problem. The OP should be changed to reflect the following procedure:

1) download new wallet.

2 ) back up old wallet.

3) windows start menu type %appdata%  this brings up your roaming folder.

4) navigate to bitcoindark folder

5) make new folder in here called backup, copy all contents of folder here. use this to restore original files if things go wrong.

6) delete everything except wallet.dat and your backup folder.

7) right click, create new text document.

Cool paste node info from OP

9) save as ...  switch choice from "text file" to "all files"   bitcoindark.conf

10) go to new wallet download

11) unrar and click on wallet to open. it assembles the missing files in your appdata folder.

12) make a cup of coffee, wait for wallet to sync blockchain

If I have missed anything here, others feel free to jump in.

If you have a working older wallet and are worried about trying to fix something that isn't broken, is there a reason you should not:

1) Backup your wallet.dat file. (Obviously, there is no reason to do this again because everyone here is smart and already has multiple backups. Right?)

2) Download and un-rar the new wallet from OP in a different location, leaving the existing wallet as it is (though not running).

3) Copy wallet.dat to relevant folder for new download. Maybe play games with .conf, not sure.

4) Run new download. Check it is working. Only then delete old one.

Edit: looks like the different versions would still use the same Roaming folder?

Is there a good reason I should not stick with the older wallet for now (says I'm on Qt 5.3.0), since it's working just fine for me?
Looking forward to new NXT-inside wallet, that will hopefully be a little easier to install.

By all means stick with the old wallet, if it ain't broke don't fix it! : -)

Great! Reading all the problems people are having and hoping I wouldn't have to negotiate them myself Smiley
It's one thing I love about the NXT wallet: it's a one-click download and it works out of the box. If the SuperWallet does this for participating currencies it will be a great attraction.

I've not replaced my wallet for a while (probably a couple of months) as it's been working fine. I assume I need to Smiley I've just been waiting for the NXT-inside version or multi-SuperWallet.

I assume the onion routing used by Teleport can/will be used for other functions. I think I read something about private messaging. But what about a mini-BitcoinDarkWeb? Is that possible or on the cards? It would add to the full SuperNet crypto ecosystem.

It is probably arbitrageurs who bought at .0095 and are happy with a 2% gain after 2 days

Can not accept such a move

the sole reason wouldn't of been the 2% gain.

Basically a trader who bought in with the rush like everyone else, now 2 days later, 2% gain but still quite a few weeks before any chance of being able to see any decent gains (in their eyes) and its been 2 whole days they have been looking at other coins and seeing large increases in value. They are simply inpatient and believe they have more chance of seeing gains investing in something shorter term than having currency held up in an IPO.

their belief is they can earn more , and optionally buy back in a week or so more than before because of their short term winnings from investing in another coin. Althou it could go the opposite way and they see a decline. still non the less , they are impatient and want quick cash, no expose able income  and believe they have seen something not many others have in another coin, hoping to see it rise.

Right. Buyer's remorse. Very sad given that long-termism is one of the major points of SuperNET. Come on, people!
Also remember that 90% of those opportunistic daytraders lose money...

I leave it for someone else to calculate the BTC equiv using CMC price

Well done.
Can I suggest the CNY is reserved for trading on BTER, since NXT sales have been disproportionately high and you'll need reserves of BTC?

Quote
BBR and the sharkfund0 -- "Boolberry’s market cap stands at around $400,000 and a 10 percent share – already obtained by sharkfund0, most of which will be going into the SuperNET core – would cost only 80 BTC." -- from your pdf. Now how can one read this, tell me? Two ways:

1. You are investing coins from sharkfund0 into supernet, market rate or not, doesn't matter. Effectively propping Supernet with watever btc (4k BTC, was it?) sharkfund0 has. A market news of Supernet raising say 7k BTC (doesn't matter if it contains 4k BTC from sharkfund0, is a market moving news, isnt?)

2. You are investing a percentage of the sharkfund0 into supernet (keeping in with the risk mitigation and all). Say 40% of sharkfund0 --- that wud amount to only effective 4% of BBR being invested. Wouldn't it?

Now as you clarified (or provided proof Wink ) that you will be investing your personal sharkfund0. Fair enough. How much do you hold? And how much of BBR wud it represent? Not 10% for sure.
The text you quote is from an older version, cassius wrote the document and I missed the potential confusion, so as soon as somebody else pointed this out we modified it. If this text is still in the current version then I must have made a mistake in the uploading. I was having many connection problems that day (and most days). So I apologize for this error, I believe it has been corrected and you have an older doc. as far as my percentage of sharkfund, you can just look in the acct: http://nxtreporting.com/?a=NXT-SQ9J-JCAN-8XVY-5XN7K&c=USD
I have 521 sharkfund0 right now. I used to have 800+, but in order to pay for core assets held by the various operating assets, I had to swap a all my NXTventure, JLH and a big chunk of my sharkfund. I did most transfers within a few minutes, but there was one that had some hours gap. I forget the exact swap, but half was pending for some few hours. Now I am rounding, so when I see 6989495 or something like that I round it to 7 mil. It could be that for some marketrate swaps I am guilty of some fractional gains due to this rounding. If this is an issue, please specify which swaps I am guilty of having benefited from and I will refund the difference. Though, it would only seem fair that in the cases the rounding error went against me, I should get a credit, so I ask that you calculate all these roundings and the net difference between myself and the various assets, and this I will refund. Let me know if you think that is fair.

My ears are burning Smiley
trythisnow: this misunderstanding (let's be charitable and call it that, shall we?) is possibly due to my own misunderstanding. This was a point we corrected once already because I made a mistake.
If this hasn't been resolved to the extent you require, please let me know the form of words that you would like to see at that point in the document. It is possible that I continue to misunderstand the point in question and your clarification would be helpful - if you are genuinely interested in helping to clarify this.
No need to answer if not.

Whats the current outstanding shares?

There are essentially an unlimited amount. No, that does not mean dilution...
1655  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SuperNET - ICO conducted by BTER + ... on: September 07, 2014, 03:08:50 PM
Thanks for the quote. This https://altcoinherald.com/supernet-seeks-unify-warring-altcoin-states/ says what the purpose of SuperNET is but not how it works and the OP is a wall of text Smiley Could you direct me to the parts which describe how it is supposed to "unite all altcoins"?
https://www.github.com/jl777/libjl777 has the source code. I have posted technical details on how to interface coins.
I cannot answer a general question.
There is not description how the goal outlined in the altcoinherald (~unite all altcoins) is supposed to be accomplished besides the code itself? Smiley
push

Ok well thats all I was wondering. If theres any proof of dev. Just a question. As I thought it was valid in this situation. No need for the whole team to go apeshit. I thought it was a legitimate question. But apparently if im not chanting "BTCDto mooon!!"  then in an apparent troll.

It is a legitimate question but from what I've read before he's never going to out himself so I guess you have to weigh that up in regards investing.
Its completely ridiculous your question is seen as trolling and the attempts to marginalise you are not cool.

I think it's a fair question to ask. The way it is asked is a different matter Smiley
It's a legitimate question, and the answer to which most people (especially those participating in SuperNET) have come is 'we have enough to satisfy us'.
Not a sine qua non, clearly. It might put a proportion of people off.

Not much of that happens here, actually. It's a refreshing change.

Ok so we have to have like a gut feeling to trust millions.

Why do I feel like im being targeted and called a FUDer just for simply  asking if there is proof of developer. This isnt the NXT community. So just asking who is holding my money, and wondering why its such a secret? What are you reasons to stay hidden?

Its like my walking into a bank with a balaclava then acting confused when people think im doing something dodgy, then rufusing to take then mask off and claiming that im trustworthy

Not a gut feeling. By the way, gut feelings help since all cognitive knowledge is integrated with affect regulation. But that's a side point.
It's pretty logical. Look at completed projects. Look at reputation. Look at self-interest.
I suppose it could all be some sort of long game to destroy crypto from within, or to take down the alts and restore Bitcoin's fortunes. Yeah, that's probably what's going on. Definitely.
Or maybe the simplest explanation is the best. Collaboration is productive. So is innovation. So is network effect. So is rewarding the people who work hard. And the best way to go about achieving that is... ?

SuperNET draining fiat into crypto.

hi james when u get a minite can u explain why btcd is dropping in price thanks

Lots of people bought yesterday to take advantage of the 5% discount for the SuperNET launch. Now people are selling to take profits and since the first wave of SuperNET purchases is over, there isn't the demand to support the price.
No big deal, just keep hodling Smiley
