1661  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger's newest 20-25% Discount on: March 22, 2020, 06:31:42 PM
Okay so when i order the device, open the package with gloves.  I still have to do this with the box as well?  But the moment i open the box... obviously remove the gloves when i touch the nano ledger s right?

So basically even if you touch something, as long as you don't touch your face, you are fine?

One other thing.  I tried to order it on the ledger site and tried a bunch of discount codes.  I went to the link that shows all the word list and randomly tried about thirty words and all say not valid.  Someone said over half the word list has been used so more than one thousand has been sold... is that correct?  And if so, how do you know this?  Obviously i want to get the discount as well... but how do i know if there are still codes left?  Do i basically look at that word list and copy and paste it into discount code until i make a match?
1662  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S Battery Question? on: March 22, 2020, 06:28:37 PM
Okay so based on this, i will not do anything with my ledger until i have access to my seed.  Then i will enter the seed on the old ledger with the recovery check app to confirm if the seed is correct.  im curious but since you are typing that many words in the seed, thats gotta take you a few minutes right?  I remember when i entered the seed in electrum back when i used electrum, much quicker since you typing it in keyboard.  But on the nano you are basically going up and down the alphabet so it has to take a few minutes right?

Well that is why i also don't want to do firmware update now because i dont have my seed with me.  Yea i can get another wallet.  I mean if i had a backup wallet now, obviously that would be good.

Yea i know that everytime i connect the device, there is a risk. Thing is i never heard of this previously.  Like a while back, i never heard a device can reset itself.  When your device reset, you are sure it was when you did the ledger live update?  Also do you guys want me to post a picture of my screen to show you oh dim the screen is?  Or based on what i described, this is pretty much a ledger that is faulty/hardware issue?
1663  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S Battery Question? on: March 21, 2020, 11:18:12 PM
Do you recall how long was the day turnaround to send your nano x and then receive your replacement?  First you need to email them first with the issue right?  On the site says they can take up to ten days to respond.  Then it will take two to five days each way at least right?  Probably few days for processing as well so that could be three weeks total at least?
1664  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S Battery Question? on: March 21, 2020, 10:35:52 PM
Well my thoughts were say i were to send it back and reset it.  Yes i have the seed but say something happen to it... yea i know... then i dont have the device.   Well I never restored a backup ever.  I didn't even confirm my seed is correct though but again i made sure to check many times it was correct when writing it down.  But the moment you download recovery check and type in the entire seed and its correct, then thats safe right?

I thought safest way was first check if recovery check is right... then once its correct... order the new device.  Then enter seed into new one.  Then put in wrong pin three times on the old one to reset... then return it back to ledger for a brand new one.  That way i have two of them... one as a backup so to speak.  Thoughts on that?  Yea i know that sound very extreme but i dont like the idea of it taking at least a week for them to receive it and another week for me to receive it.  Does that make sense?
1665  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S Battery Question? on: March 21, 2020, 10:30:56 PM
Hi.  I don't have my seed right now at the moment.  That is why i say this...  If i did, i do the recovery check app now.

I do have electrum installed on my regular computer.  I had kept my btc here for a long time on this same computer until i got a nano ledger s and then sent everything to it... in case i catch something on my laptop.  Thus i dont keep anything in electrum now.

Yea i will ask ledger on this.  Yea i know most likely they will ask me to return the device first.  I think i might just buy a new one first... then return this one if they allow it and send me an other ledger s... that way i have a backup.  You think thats good idea?

I meant putting wrong pin multiple times to reset the device.  I phrased it wrong there.

Okay if device is reset, and someone can't get access to it. that is good.

1666  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Saving your private key in your email is a lethal move on: March 21, 2020, 10:01:41 PM
Thoughts on program like lastpass and typing it in there and storing it in email?  First that person needs to hack your email.  Then they need to know the master password.

What about typing in a document but encrypting it with axcrypt?  That way someone get into your email, they still need axcrypt password?

Now what about lastpass.  But you encrypt lastpass too?  So basically you need your email password, axcrypt password and finally lastpass password?
1667  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S Battery Question? on: March 21, 2020, 09:58:07 PM
Okay so had another hardware wallet to store it at.  But if you do not, what would you say is best thing to do?

Send btc in electrum or safe exchange like coinbase and then return the old reset nano ledger s and wait to receive new one

or

Just order a new nano ledger s and then type the same seed into it to restore it on new device and just keep the dimmed nano ledger in closet

or

Just order a new nano ledger s and then type the same seed into it to restore it on new device and ask ledger to replace your dimmed nano ledger for a new one so you have an extra one?  If you do this, do you recommend just using the same seed and then resetting the old one multiple times so its reset as oppose to using a brand new seed on the new one?  There is zero way someone could get access to your nano ledger wallet balance right assuming you put wrong pin three times and reset it?  I always was concerned if you return it... those techs could somehow get back into your ledger since its the same seed you use for new one.
1668  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S Battery Question? on: March 21, 2020, 09:23:11 PM
Before you returned your nano x twice... where did you send the btc to during that time?  Did you had another hardware wallet or you stored it in like electrum or an exchange?  That is what i don't want to do in the time being etc.  That is why i wouldn't want to send the nano ledger s first.

1669  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S Battery Question? on: March 21, 2020, 09:17:30 PM
Is there even a point of contacting nano ledger on this?  I had this device for around two years now.  I mean i don't want to return it to them.. then have them send me a replacement.
Nobody here can answer that. Just drop them an email and see what they say. Either they will send you a replacement or they won't. If you don't want to send yours back first (I wouldn't either), then don't do it.

Then when i get the new nano ledger s, write down the twenty four word seed.  Then send a tiny amount of btc to it.... then intentionally put wrong pin three times... then put in the twenty four word seed... then it restores... then send the rest of the btc from my old nano ledger so to the new one.  You agree that is best way for me to do this right?
This is unnecessary. It is not necessary to configure a second Ledger device as a whole new wallet and send all your coins across. You can simply duplicate your existing wallets on the second device by setting it up with your current 24 word seed phrase. If your wallets show up on the second device, then you will know your seed was correct. Only if your seed is incorrect and you can't recover it would I go through the steps of setting up a brand new set of wallets and moving all my coins.

The thing that did concern me was when i wrote the seed... there was a word that was repeated twice... but i asked this last time on the forum and ppl said that is normal right?
Yes, this is normal.

Okay will send them an email.  But if they don't allow me to get the new one and then send the old one... what do you think about just ordering the new one as is... then send the one old one back for a new one so basically i have two nano ledger s?

I did not even think about that.  Make sense you just type in the seed in the new device and then it would show up in the new wallet.  Now if i do this, i should then immediately put wrong pin in the old nano ledger s to wipe it right?  So if you buy a new nano ledger s... this is what you would do right?  Now... would you then return the old one back to them for a new one?  That way you have two nano ledger s?  Or you think there is still a security risk because you used the same seed on the new nano ledger s?  That is why i was thinking of setting up a brand new seed because of this if i do return it.

Okay thanks just want to confirm a word can be written twice in a seed.  And just to confirm, what is the app i download on the nano ledger s to test my seed?   Also its safe no matter what right as long as you type in the seed on your nano ledger?  A while back i heard about this but was hesistant because typing the seed anywhere got me a bit worried.
1670  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live Not Showing Accounts Issue? on: March 21, 2020, 08:31:37 PM
I only added bitcoin, bitcoin cash and bitcoin gold app in my nano ledger s.  I added the same ones back to it when i clicked on add accounts.  I don't have any other coins i added.  I actually don't even have any bitcoin gold on my nano ledger wallet but just added the app.

I meant was the way i added my accounts correct in terms of when adding bitcoin?  When it was done syncing, it asked me to either add account... which was the bitcoin segwit account.. or i had an option to like check two boxes with bitcoin.  Such as bitcoin segwit one and bitcoin two... i forgot if the two said legacy or not.  I just clicked on add and just added bitcoin segwit.  So i want to know if i did it correct.
1671  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger's newest 20-25% Discount on: March 21, 2020, 08:09:00 PM
Has anyone bought this recently shipped to the US?  I will most likely do so when I get back to the US since my nano ledger s display is extremely dim.  You can barely read the screen display because its so dim.

But we should be concerned about the virus?  I never thought about this.  But you mean the outside of the packaging or the ledger itself?

Anyone know how long it takes to receive in the US now?
1672  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S Battery Question? on: March 21, 2020, 08:04:00 PM
Hey all.  So I connected my nano ledger s to my laptop again and i had to do this because when i opened ledger live from my laptop, it did not display my accounts which are bitcoin and bitcoin cash.  I then added accounts and they now show up in my ledger live.

Right now, the display is extremely dim like last time.  It might even gotten a bit more dimmer.

So as of now, I don't have the seed with me.  I will soon when i get back to the US.  I also am using the older firmware... i think 1.5 or 1.51 firmware?  Last time i did firmware update was in November.  I did not want to risk doing a firmware update now especially when my screen is dimmed.

Is there even a point of contacting nano ledger on this?  I had this device for around two years now.  I mean i don't want to return it to them.. then have them send me a replacement.  Do they even do that if its over a year?

The thing is if they were to send me a new one... then i send back the old one... i would be fine with that.

But the best situation now would be what?  I assume first thing i do is when I get back to the US and have access to my seed... download that app on the ledger and then type in my twenty four word see?  I have to type every single word one by one right?  Then once they confirm that is correct... then either use it as it is now dimmed or buy a new nano ledger s right?  Then when i get the new nano ledger s, write down the twenty four word seed.  Then send a tiny amount of btc to it.... then intentionally put wrong pin three times... then put in the twenty four word seed... then it restores... then send the rest of the btc from my old nano ledger so to the new one.  You agree that is best way for me to do this right?

Again... i never tested the seed on my nano ledger s.  But im like almost certain its correct because im very ocd when writing the seed.  The thing that did concern me was when i wrote the seed... there was a word that was repeated twice... but i asked this last time on the forum and ppl said that is normal right?

And you guys agree best thing to do is keep the nano ledger s in the original box right?  Thus no matter what temperature is your apartment or humidity, it gets the protection from the box?  Again, i left mine in a fanny pack zipped inside.  The thing though is i always kept it like that for at least one and a half years and there was no issue with it.  Such as my ledger never reset itself... no dimmed display etc.

You guys want me to post picture of how my display look here right?  If so, will post it soon.

1673  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live Not Showing Accounts Issue? on: March 21, 2020, 07:47:34 PM
Hey all.  Okay so I updated ledger live first... then added accounts.  When i first added bitcoin, it gave me option of just clicking add  OR  i could check two boxes and add like two different accounts.  I only clicked on add without checking two boxes.  That is fine right?  It does show Bitcoin one segwit... that is correct right?  When i first set bitcoin up in ledger live, im pretty sure i picked segwit as oppose to legacy because i recall ppl said segwit you pay less fees.

I then added btc cash as well.  It does show correct balances.

So is everything correct now?  The bitcoin cash didn't show anything complicated.  Basically the accounts now show

bitcoin one segwit, bitcoin cash one .  That is correct?

Thanks.
1674  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live Not Showing Accounts Issue? on: March 21, 2020, 04:34:01 PM
Yes thats correct.  But first thing i do right now add accounts or install the update?

Well this is first time i ever opened ledger live where it did not show my portfolio.
1675  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live Not Showing Accounts Issue? on: March 21, 2020, 04:44:42 AM
Hey guys.  Just to confirm, add accounts and connect my ledger and put pin to it first right?  Then do the update on the top?  Or do i do the update first?
1676  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live Not Showing Accounts Issue? on: March 20, 2020, 01:38:12 AM
Do I

Click on install now for update first?

Or

Click Open Manager and then Connect my Ledger to it after putting in my pin?

I never had this ever happen before when i log into ledger live.  Is there a chance ledger live deleted my account or something?  I did not connect my nano ledger to it at the moment.  Basically the portfolio, send and receive is grayed out.
1677  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Ledger Live Not Showing Accounts Issue? on: March 20, 2020, 01:35:17 AM
I opened ledger live program from my windows computer as usual and when i put in the password, i get message

Install apps or add accounts

Open the Manager to install apps or add accounts if your ledger device already has apps installed

Options are

Open Manager or Add Accounts

On the Menu, seems to be highlighted Accounts with a blue dot to it.  On the top there does show message

Update ready to install and Install Now on the eight of It.

The thing though is why does it not display my portfolio?  I have btc and bch and whenever i log into ledger live, it immediately shows my btc and bch balance.

Can someone tell me what happened here?  I cannot click on my portfolio as that is grayed out.  Only thing i can click on is accounts, manager and buy crypto.

1678  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase New Phone 2FA Issue on: March 17, 2020, 04:15:57 AM
Anyone?  How do i contact coinbase on this issue?  Where do i upload my passport and selfie?
1679  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: WAVES - Complete Blockchain ecosystem for a token economy on: February 19, 2020, 12:45:25 AM
Haven't logged into my waves wallet in a while.  But has waves given any airdrops like they did last year or the year before where it was like a 2 part step?  I think  it was called vostok token.  Im still leasing my waves though from a while back though i dont have much waves.
1680  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S Battery Question? on: February 17, 2020, 07:28:52 PM
Well i also dont want to put it out in the open in case.  Where im located theft happens.  And i dont want it out in the open.
Mine are not out in the open either, but they are all secured in locations without any kind of strict temperature or humidity control, so are exposed to whatever the ambient conditions in the room are. Actually, one is stored in an airtight container, so that would protect it from humidity fluctuations, but my point still stands. Having said that, it sounds like you live in a very humid environment, so my results will not necessarily be applicable to you.

But i think the humidity could be a cause... but again its already inside a fanny pack.
If it isn't airtight, then humidity could still be a factor.

would you say best to buy another ledger device and when i get back to the US, send a test btc deposit from this ledger s to the new ledger s... then reset the new ledger s by putting wrong pin 3x.
Only if you think your current seed has been compromised. If you are happy that your current seed, then simply use it to duplicate your wallets on to the second Ledger.

What do you mean airtight exactly if i have it in a fanny pack.  Its basically in a small compartment of my fanny pack, and i zippered the zipper etc... The thing is i have left it in that fanny pack like that for at least 1.5 years that way though.  Yea area is very humid.  Doesn't really matter you are at in my city unless you want to turn on your ac all day.  Thats why we got windows open all the time.

I don't have my seed compromised as far as im aware.  But i did not do the nano s reset like when i got it to confirm my 24 word is correct but i did wrote it down extremely carefully looking at it multiple times though.  HCP tells me well even though that is true, that isn't 100% because you never did the reset.  So you agree with him on this right?  But he did say when you are back in the US where i store my seed, install the recovery app and then enter your 24 word seed and it will tell you if seed is correct.  So that is best way to go right?  Do that first before doing a firmware update right just to make certain?
