1061  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: New Ledger phishing mail targets individual users on: May 02, 2021, 06:12:25 PM
What i do know is my email when i put it on that site of haveibeenpwned.com does show yes though.

But of course im not sure putting my ledger email in that site is thus safe etc.

So i guess if you didn't get that specific email message of you need to download ledger live and update it... then most likely your are fine?  Now anyone here get any spam to phone number though?  Since its been said phone number could be leaked?
1062  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is Scalping even viable in Cryptocurrencies? on: May 02, 2021, 03:46:04 PM
Can't imagine someone having money on coinbase/gemini/kraken and binance could do this?

They can especially on Binance, anyone with the knowledge could scalp newly listed tokens and come out successful only if all the decisions he/she takes favours them. Why I'm not a huge fan of scalping is the disadvantages of losing all or almost all the profits your have tried accumulating over the period of trade for the day.

It's fine when you're profiting but becomes ugly when you're losing. Instead of scalping you can simply swing trade. Investing is another profitable strategy to embark on in the industry, it has less risk and higher reward compared to other strategies out there.

You mean binance.com or binance.US?  So you do it on binance but the other exchange would be which ones?  The US ones i listed such as coinbase/gemini/kraken or other ones?  Got to assume its not that popular ones.
1063  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Carrying Hardware Wallets When Traveling Internationally on: May 01, 2021, 06:25:57 PM
How are most of you traveling then if you daytrade or do transactions then?  I mean you have to bring your hardware wallet with you... but what about your seed?
1064  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best Way to Carry Your Seed When Traveling Or Moving Abroad? on: May 01, 2021, 05:07:27 PM
Anyone have opinion on this?  Again I did mention a while back i store it online as i encrypt it and store it in the cloud which many people seem to be against.  But that protects against fire and theft.

Also what about people who travel and basically don't have a home and like those travel vloggers?  I guess this question would fit them since you hear lot of people who travel and pay everything with crypto.  Where in the world are they storing their seed?  Do they have it with them in person?  That doesn't feel safe at all.  Do they store it in safe deposit boxes in their banks where they are from where they do visit it once a year or so?  But of course have their hardware wallets with them?

I mean of course you could put it in a family or relative place but again, you risk fire and theft or the small chance that person go and takes the coins.
1065  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: travelling internationally with a hard wallet on: May 01, 2021, 05:01:53 PM
I had thread on this as well a while back.  But to those of you who travel with hardware wallet, do you carry your seed as well with you?  That seem to be a huge concern because let say they flag you for some reason even though you have nothing on you and ask you to take everything out, well you seed will be there.  So imagine you have it in your wallet or carry on or whatnot and they look at it, well assuming they know about crypto, im sure they would easily be able to get your coins right?  Also x ray see everything but could they see words as well?  Imagine you have piece of paper in your carry on and as the person checks the xrays, they see a bunch of words and then go... hey that looks like a seed phrase.  Then couldn't they just rescan while taking a pen and paper and write it down etc?  Or is that very extreme paranoia etc.

I also heard of cases where people were told to unlock their phones and maybe laptops such as if they are suspicious of them traveling... but could they say hey put your pin in to open your hardware wallet?  That would be very bad if they could do that but zero case of that ever happening right?  I mean if you are a criminal or things like that... could they even do that to them?

Someone mentioned about traveling with the crypto debit card instead.  Im not familiar with those cards but when you use it... you still need to type a pin though right?  If so, how is that any safe than a hardware wallet?
Im guessing it look like credit cards so its not like they confiscate it and use it etc?
1066  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 25th Word in Nano Ledger S on: May 01, 2021, 04:56:22 PM
Okay but do you think most people are even trying to break the link between old wallet and new one?  Would you say not necessary and just do the passphrase and hidden wallet and that should be good enough?

I guess only if that person knows you have a lot of btc and that amount you have in your main wallet is so little so they know its hidden wallet?

Again but the main issue is if you were told to reveal your pin... well wouldnt you have to ot it to a laptop then which would reveal your other wallet assuming you have ledger live on your laptop like most people?  I mean someone having your hardware wallet is useless without pin... but also if you tell them your pin, they still need to confirm its correct.  So with nano ledger s, that still require connecting to a laptop right?  Thus if its your laptop, then its screwed since it will show alll your wallets?  Thus your main one and hidden one?

Now if you have ledger x, that would be difference since they could literally connect it to any device like a phone and then it show the wallet and coins?  But this way its better in that well they cant see the hidden wallet?  Or incorrect since well you still using ledger live?

So most ppl thus for security purposes, use electrum with nano ledger s and do not bother with ledger live then for situations like this?  But is the hidden wallet still shown on electrum though when you open the program each time?  That seem to be confusing thing here.

But is there a way for you to delete your hidden wallet from ledger live so each time you log into ledger live, it only has your main wallet?  Then you add your hidden wallet into ledger live each time to check it?  But when you close the program, you delete the hidden wallet account each time?  Thus if you were told to open your laptop as well to connect to ledger live, well you have you main wallet which is small amount of btc and ledger live.. only showing that main wallet?
1067  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 25th Word in Nano Ledger S on: May 01, 2021, 01:01:36 AM
Okay if thats the case, then how do people do this without making it obvious then?  You have to use a mixer no matter what?

Okay so create a new seed... then do it.  That makes sense.  But how are you suppose to do this if you only have one ledger nano s?  I mean you aren't resetting it or putting wrong pin three times right?  Im confused how you do this here.

But im curious is that what majority of people are doing? I know you are using 5 btc as an example which is already a lot.  But if you have less, it would still be worth it to do that right?

I don't know how its possible to not use ledger live.  So what does one do to check their balance and send/receive coins then?  Back then it was ledger manager.

I could imagine this process much easier if you had a second nano ledger s.  With just one nano ledger s... isn't a mistake pretty possible this way?

1068  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is Scalping even viable in Cryptocurrencies? on: April 30, 2021, 07:30:00 PM
How much seconds do you even typically have to do scalps?  I mean i hear ppl have bots doing it so wouldnt it mean its impossible for someone to manually scalp?  Also i got to assume to do scalps, you have to put money on shady exchanges?

Can't imagine someone having money on coinbase/gemini/kraken and binance could do this?
1069  Economy / Economics / Re: How do you define rich? on: April 29, 2021, 09:48:21 PM
Anyone that is from a First World Country... like the US or Canada... I think anyone with 3 million dollars would easily be defined as rich.  Don't most agree with that?  If not... then the world is very comfortable?

I don't know why ppl talk about l0 million and more ... that isn't necessary for most people.

1070  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: New Ledger phishing mail targets individual users on: April 29, 2021, 08:14:03 PM
But i wonder if entering email address on the one hcp posted would be good or not because wouldn't they record any email address typed in though even though it says it won't?
That is a possibility, yes. No one can tell you that with certainty. Only the owner of the site can, and he can lie about it. If you think your data has been leeked, make a search to see what exactly is out there. But don't do it just to cure your curiosity.

I received targeting phishing emails a while back... the ones where it say we see your ledger has been logged in russia or some country like that etc.
That's different. Spam mails like that were sent even before the Ledger hack. Have you received the type of emails described in this thread? The ones telling you your assets are at risk, and you need to download a new version of the LL software?

I don't believe i received that email of your assets are at risk and you need to download new version of ledger live.... i dont believe so but i will check.

But if you receive that, very good chance the other things are leaked then right?
1071  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you check the code of open source software? on: April 28, 2021, 11:12:19 PM
Do you do this with all programs you download on your computer though?  Like imagine you want to download a youtube downloader program on your windows machine.  How you verify its legit even if its on a site you are not sure about?
1072  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Warning]: Fake Microsoft DirectX 12 site pushes crypto-stealing malware on: April 28, 2021, 11:10:26 PM
Do things like this pop up on the legit microsoft or similar sites though?

So if you click on link but don't download it... you are fine right?

But once you download it... you got malware now so basically anything you type on the computer is visible to the hacker... is that correct?  But if you use your nano ledger s with ledger live... what happens?  You can gert hacked or not?  I assume they would do that change your sending address to or something like that right?  Because what if you use the ledger recovery app and type it in your ledger to see if your seed is correct while  connected to computer while having this program installed?  Could they view it or not?
1073  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: [Be Aware]: Fake Ethereum and USDT Mixers on: April 28, 2021, 11:07:16 PM
I recall i used one of these bitcoin accelerator site ... the legit ones years ago because i sent btc and used a very low fee and after i did it... the transaction sped up.  I forgot the name of it but i recall they only did so and so transactions at the beginning of the hour and only a certain amount.

But these mixers are much different as it does with privacy right?  So what happens here with these fake mixers as in what happens when you use it?

So what are the legit mixers to use if you want to use one?
1074  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Ok so, since I am a US citizen, how do I get other coins without my info? on: April 28, 2021, 10:55:53 PM
What about trading someone who could get other coins you want in another country?  Is there any legal issue with that or not?  Like imagine you want to buy so and so coin but you can't... but you could send btc to someone and they buy it for you and then trade that coin for your btc.  But of course when you want to sell it for btc or usdt or whatnot to cashout to your us bank account, you need to trade with someone outside the US in order to get btc etc.
1075  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / What do you do with the Hardware Wallet Box? on: April 28, 2021, 10:40:48 PM
Whether you buy a nano ledger or trezor, what do you do with the box?  I never thought about this and always thought just leave it in the closet or box somewhere but isn't that bad since if a thief finds it...well they would go okay so that person has a crypto wallet?  Obviously some people hide their hardware wallet somewhere in the apartment and some just put it out in the open.

But does anyone here think its a good idea to destroy or throw the box away?  Obviously if you going to resell it to someone, its best to have the box but many people obviously aren't going to buy a used hardware wallet.  So curious if any of you even think much about this?
1076  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What will you do if Bitcoin hits $1m in the future? on: April 28, 2021, 09:27:05 PM
Wouldn't this mean guys like Buffett wouldn't even be in the top x amount of most wealthy ppl anymore?  Like imagine jeff bezos drops all the way to so and so number as okay hes now 50th most richest person in the world... most likely they wont allow this... wont u agree?
1077  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Do you recommend passpharse for Trezor One? on: April 28, 2021, 09:19:26 PM
If im reading this correctly, the trezor then isn't that safe like the nano ledger s then because if a thief has your device and you don't have a passphrase, then they literally could extract your seed from your trezor?  If that is the case, how many users even put a passphrase on it?  Do they tell you in the instructions you must do this?

Compare this with the nano ledger s and i had no idea about you could put a passphrase until years later.  But its been mentioned even if someone has your nano ledger s... they need to enter your pin correctly and only get three tries before it resets etc.

1078  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: How often Does Nano Ledger Have a Firmware Update? on: April 28, 2021, 03:20:46 PM
When I log into ledger live the last few times, I don't see any new update available.  Almost always when i log in... it would show synchronizing... that takes a bit then synchronized.  I recall if there is new ledger live update, its always like in the top right corner of ledger live right?

Also hcp you mention there has been ton of updates to the coin apps.  Well... i connected my nano ledger to laptop few times and never checked for this.  But is updating that essential?  Again, when i connect my ledger to laptop and there is no firmware update showing, i don't do anything.  But if i click on accounts/coins... then i would see that my btc, bch apps are way outdated and need to update each one... is that correct?  Because i don't think i updated any of the btc, bch apps in 6 months or so.  But when you update it, it just updates each one manually right?  No need to delete and erase each app?  Do you make sure you update each coin app every so often and how often should you?  Again for me, i don't connect my nano ledger s much to my laptop.  So you saying i should update each app every single time when i connect my nano ledger to laptop?  I only connect my nano ledger to laptop when i either

Check to Make Sure It Works
Need to send/receive coins
See if Firmware Updated is Available

So since no firmware has been available for long time, i just connect it... then remove it etc.
1079  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: New Ledger phishing mail targets individual users on: April 28, 2021, 03:10:19 PM
But its for sure putting your email here won't do anything bad to it right?
Security-wise, nothing can happen to your email address if you enter it there or on sites like haveibeenpwned. It might not be the best thing to do from a privacy perspective. Whoever created the site can connect anyone who enters his email there as being an owner of a Ledger device. Why else would you search his database?

Have you received targeted phishing emails already? If you have, your data has probably been leeked. If not, no reason to search the database because if your info was public somewhere, I doubt you could have gone this far without receiving some kind of crap. What this source can show you is if only your email got leeked, or more of your private info.

Yes i know about that on the haveibeenpwned site.  But i wonder if entering email address on the one hcp posted would be good or not because wouldn't they record any email address typed in though even though it says it won't?  Like if someone enters an email address on that site...its because well they want to see if their info is there which mean they own a ledger.  So you are saying anyone that put their email address in it... surely that person can see every email entered right?

I received targeting phishing emails a while back... the ones where it say we see your ledger has been logged in russia or some country like that etc.  Also i receive ton of crypto like spam email... but its possibly that is coincidence?  I got to assume maybe even regular people receive ton of that spam mail nowadays?

1080  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 25th Word in Nano Ledger S on: April 28, 2021, 05:46:00 AM
Okay will install recovery check.

How long ago did ledger had this recovery check app?  I recall when i first got the ledger few years ago, im not sure they had that option yet... if it did... it might been pretty new?  I got it three years ago or so more or less.

Well right now... how much does it cost to send btc from nano ledger s address to a new address?  I know you can configure fees but the lowest fee is like how much now?

Well if a person has 5 btc, how would they even send it to the hidden address?  That is a ton of btc nowadays.  Would that person send tiny amount like 0.00l btc to make sure the new address receives it.  Then send the entire bulk of the rest in the second transaction?  I dont know how some ppl could even feel comfortable sending say 0.5 btc now in just one transaction without anxiety etc.

But if you are trying to send all the btc in your main wallet to a hidden wallet... isn't it true that won't work because someone could see that a person moved that much btc to another address so its obvious they still own that btc?

I recall someone said... imagine someone who had like 5 btc in their nano ledger s.  But now they want the passphrase and the extra word.  So that way, the btc they have when they enter the pin on their nano ledger would only show their main btc wallet which would have btc but not the bulk of it.  Like imagine someone thinks this person only has say 0.05 btc only.  But if they were to check and see this person sent like l btc or say 5 btc to another address... isn't it obvious that person also owns that btc as well and its in their hidden wallet?  Of course if that other person knows your 0.05 btc wallet cannot be all you have... then obviously they would know of hidden wallet right?  But again, this would need someone to be very knowledgeable about the other person?

But even so, how does one even move their btc without drawing attention then?  I mean if someone has say 5 btc... they going to do the extra word and passphrase and then send btc to like l0 different btc addresses then so they going to have like l0 hidden addresses?  But someone said well if the other person sees those btc never moved.... then isn't it obvious the owner still has it?  You say keep a range of utxos... but now you going to pay like twenty bucks each time to send to different address?  So if someone has like l0 btc or something ridiculous like that... they going to need to slowly move the btc to different addresses to not draw attention?  Again the big issue seem to be... well what if they see your accounts on ledger live... that seem to be a big issue here isn't it?  Unless you could delete all your accounts and restore them each time pretty easily?
