Well the day has finally arrived my ASICS from Butterfly labs are preparing to ship. When they arrive will the latest updatable client work or do i need to use the beta client?

Still only in beta. Couple small things I want to change before it goes out as a regular release. Soon Smiley

how accurate is the mining pool results if I used dustcoin.com to calculate?

Which results?

why realasicminer left?

They started solomining. They are bigger than most pools.
1663  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: BitMinter client (Win/Linux/Mac, NEW: BFL and Icarus FPGAs supported) on: June 02, 2013, 10:02:36 PM
Help me, I start the client and when a click on the mining button (play), the client just crash and quit. How can I fix it ?

It probably leaves a hs_err_pid crash log on your desktop (could also be in a temporary folder, not easy to find), which says problematic frame: amdocl.dll - a crash in the AMD OpenCL driver.

AMD has been unable to create proper drivers in 2013 so far. They work for some people, but for many they either crash all miners or some miners.

You can try installing the latest beta, maybe they finally managed to do something right, or you could try a 2012 driver. Even if you get a proper driver the AMD uninstaller doesn't work (never has since AMD was founded), and it may leave behind files that will cause miners to still crash. You could try the cleanup utility at AMD website, or driver sweeper from guru3d, or manual cleanup as discussed here: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=359883

I just tested with an ASICminer USB erupter on OS X.  Does not work.

Did you install the FTDI driver? In BitMinter client when you click "devices" -> "probe all ports" in the menu it will give you a link to download the drivers if no ASIC or FPGA is detected.

Would you consider a LiteCoin Java Miner when BTC difficulty goes through the roof?

Once I have the important BTC stuff under control, I will have a look at LTC and see if it makes sense.

also, my 2 GPUs seem to only run at about 89-90% of maximum on BitMinter (using GUIminer) - yet when I was on Slush's, one ran at a constant 99%, and the other at 93-98%.
Again, is there any way to tweak it to get maximum constant output?

There shouldn't be any difference there. I doubt this issue has to do with which pool you're mining with.

we had a better luck this time... the pool mined 11 blocks for the june 1 yay... patience does pay off...

And today 20 blocks. Still time for more. Wink

Love the program, thanks.

Nice to hear, thank you Smiley

Well I finished syncing my wallet and now I'm wondering where exactly do I go on the Bitminter site to input my address?

After logging into the website go to "my account" -> "account details". Halfway down the page is the auto cash out. There are instructions there on how it works.

Are you actually a Dr.? Or is that just a handle?

If Haribo candy is medicine, then I am a doctor.

I have been lurking around Bitminter for a couple of months and I have learned a bit. I must say Bitminter is very easy to use and has been chugging along for myself quite well. I wanted to ask your opinion of the different mining machines being offered these days. The ones I know about are BLF's , Avalon and Bitfountain Block Erupter USB devices. I have ordered a couple of the jalapeno's and am waiting patiently. If you would, I'm sure you know a lot about all of them, would you discuss them and make any suggestions?

Look at the price per hashpower and the availability. Looks like BFL is ramping up production. That is good.

Update: Seems like Cloudflare had an outage today, which is when our problems started. Cloudflare is the content delivery network BitMinter uses. All traffic to our website goes through them. After they fixed their issue we got slammed with over 50 000 connections on the web server. Not sure if it was DDoS or what it was. But we got enough connections and requests to make the server slow and unresponsive.

At least things are back to normal. I apologize for the website downtime.

DDoS against the website right now. Website may be up and down for a while. Sad
1670  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [ANN] Stratum mining protocol - ASIC ready on: May 31, 2013, 01:48:39 PM
At 106% now...  Undecided

There is no progress in bitcoin mining. Mining is like a lottery. Each hash is a ticket. There is no way to know that "if I get 300 more lottery tickets then I will get a winning ticket for sure." Or "I lost playing the lottery every week for 10 years. That's a lot of progress. If I play for exactly 7 more weeks then I win the big jackpot."

I don't know which pool software you are running. But round progress doesn't exist.
1671  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [12 TH/s] BitMinter.com [ASIC support: var diff, Stratum, GBT, rollntime] on: May 31, 2013, 11:55:12 AM
Is pool server down?

No, website and mining service are both running.

Hopefully the website should be stable now. A couple days ago I worked around the bug that was causing the lockups. Then I hit another one of their bugs, but it just makes the server respond more slowly after a while. Hopefully they fix that. But until then I can just restart the web server every few days to avoid slow response.

I've been working on the mining server as well. More info on that soon.
1672  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [ANN] Stratum mining protocol - ASIC ready on: May 31, 2013, 11:47:03 AM
I have managed to solve my error above! One more thing...  Wink

The round_progress has gone to 104%. Should it not have found something by 100% or is this just the average?

Basically, is it normal for it to go over 100% or should I be worried??

I don't think this is an issue with the Stratum protocol. You may have more luck asking in a thread that has to do with the specific software you are using.

But round_progress sounds wrong for bitcoin mining as there is no progress during the round.

Thanks to DrHaribo for all his efforts in making BitMinter a great pool!

Thank you, sir Smiley

Hello,
I just loaded the bitminter app and love the idea. It seems SO easy to use and SO easy to setup. The only problem is that when I run it, it disappears instantly (crashes I'm guessing).

It detects my CPU and GPU, but the second I click on the double arrow to start minting, it disappears. Where should I start for debugging this issue? I want to mine!

My GPU is an Asus Radeon HD 7770 and my CPU is an Intel core i7 3.5ghz

Thank you for any help

Nice to hear you like the pool and miner. Smiley

The crash is a graphics driver crash. Happens often with Catalyst 13.1 and 13.4. Unfortunately AMD hasn't really been able to make any stable drivers in 2013 so far. You could perhaps try 13.6 beta or go back to 12.x drivers.

AMD uninstall doesn't work and often leaves behind broken files from the broken drivers, meaning that you may still have problems after installing working drivers. If it still crashes with proper drivers then this is probably the issue. You could try the cleanup utility at AMD's website, or driver sweeper from guru3d or manual cleanup as discussed here: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=359883

Sorry for the website being down this morning.

I have found the bug that is causing this in a software component I'm using, and reported it to the people making it. Not sure if they are doing anything about it (yet). I'm looking into a workaround that should fix the issue.

All work is recorded and blocks are found independently of the website, so no worries about that. Payments also go out. The mining server has a failsafe mechanism that kicks in if it is unable to record work, at which time it begins to give you errors every time you talk to it. That's to ensure that you can either mine and get paid, or you can't mine (on that server).

Webserver back up. Apologies for the instability. Some software I am using is not working right. I'm looking for a workaround.
1676  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [12 TH/s] BitMinter.com [ASIC support: var diff, Stratum, GBT, rollntime] on: May 26, 2013, 09:37:55 PM
BitMinter is changing the minimum auto cash out threshold from 0.001 to 0.01.

The problem with 0.001 cashouts is that it gives you a "wallet full of pennies" and you will be forced to pay fees to send all those tiny amounts elsewhere later. With over 5000 active miners it is also starting to cost the pool a bit to do free cash outs, especially of such tiny amounts that demand a fee. So essentially we were spending money to help newbies shoot themselves in the foot.

Starting now, the website won't allow setting thresholds below 0.01. If you already have your threshold set below that, then it is recommended to change it to 0.01 or higher. If you don't, then that change will be forced on saturday june first (2013.06.01). Contact me (operator@bitminter.com) if you have any problems.

Hi Doc not to beat a dead horse but any chance you will have litecoin pool in the future.

I'm working on stability issues right now. Haven't even had a chance to look at Litecoin at all yet. Can't make any promises.

PPS at 3% fees

So 3% fee, and 1.5% loss of transaction fee income and 6.5% loss of namecoin. Total = 3 + 1.5 + 6.5 = 11%

But I agree that 7.5 + 1.5 + 6.5= 15.5% is more expensive.

Anyway, the difference in average income between BitMinter at 1% fee and a "3% PPS" pool is 10%. It looks like a 2% difference. But it is actually a 10% difference. An important word there is "average". You may want to pay 10% to take luck out of the equation. It looks rather expensive to me, though.

I remember the uproar when OzCoin introduced a 3% fee (later reduced). And yet there are people mining with a big smile and getting 14.5% less than the average payout at BitMinter. I guess those are two different groups of miners. Cheesy What I could do is offer miners a choice between 1% and 15% fee, to cater for both groups.
1680  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [12 TH/s] BitMinter.com [ASIC support: var diff, Stratum, GBT, rollntime] on: May 24, 2013, 07:02:31 PM
The ASICminer devices.. I don't know. Not easy to get communicate with those guys, I guess they are too busy. But I read somewhere that the USB device works like an Icarus FPGA, and those are supported in BitMinter client. So it may work. I would certainly like to hear about it if someone gets a chance to try it out.

I have ordered an AM Erupter USB miner, I'm waiting for the GB to complete and ship. I will write about my experience with BitMinter client + Erupter USB as soon as I get it, if do one did in the meantime.

Thanks, that would be awesome. Smiley I hope it works.

I don't see the joke. I've been 8 hours mining and don't see any payments in my transaction history, I don't know if this pool is working or not.

This pool uses the PPLNS reward system, not PPS. Rewards have been running stable for almost 2 years. It's just that there is some delay with this reward system - it's how we can pay better than most other pools.

Without the prepay perk you need to wait for blocks to be confirmed before you get your share from them. This takes about 20 hours (120 confirmations). Even without prepay there is a delay from you do the work until you get paid. Work is registered in a shift when you send it in. The work in the 10 latest completed shifts get paid when a block is found. Your work is usually paid several times before it is no longer in the 10 latest shifts. It currently takes over 4 hours before it stops being paid from new blocks. Without prepay, add a 20 hour delay before the coins reach your account.
