16844  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Daily Speculation Poll] :: Will it Hold on: September 07, 2012, 06:09:47 PM
I wouldn't because a knife of death would need serious issues in the order of a broken protocol for it to happen.

I mean someone starts to cash out +20K BTC and everyone jumps ship at the same time.... you know like the crash from 15 to 7

do you remember how ridiculous that was? that's what i mean when i say "falling knife of death"

is this even a possibly anymore, are the people holding large amounts of coins sitting on 1000%+ profit anymore?
16845  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Daily Speculation Poll] :: Will it Hold on: September 07, 2012, 05:42:54 PM
just for fun,
If a falling knife of death appeared at what price will would you try to catch it IF you had 1,000,000$?

"Jeff Garzik, listed on the Bitcoin website as part of its development team, told CNN the "consensus among the Bitcoin chattering class appears to be that this is a hoax." He cited an online forum in which many users express that view."

it probably is.

pretty sure it's a hoax, atlas posted this a month ago:

16854  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's are totally useless once you have a state of WAR! on: September 07, 2012, 02:12:47 AM
...Massive government spending is required to fund war and bitcoin couldn't facilitate that.

If bitcoin were to ever be a core currency, why wouldn't governments use it like they used Gold for centuries? Issue your own notes backed by bitcoin, offer a redemption option to generate confidence, but print up to 10 times more in notes than you have in bitcoin reserve, and hope there's no run. That *does* work for a while, and can certainly work to finance wars. Eventually it fails, but memories are short...each generation of politicians seems to have to learn the same lessons for themselves via first-hand experience.

If bitcoin were to ever be a core currency,
no one would accept anything other then bitcoin.
16855  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's are totally useless once you have a state of WAR! on: September 07, 2012, 02:08:50 AM
I think the current system makes financing war a very easy, just print the fucking money. Then use that money to take over a country and its oil, only to make more money! Now since you cant simply print bitcoin, financing wars would be harder, the only way would be to convince the people its a good idea and ask them for the their money / lives to fight for this war. As a result their would be no BS wars, because no one will pay good money to get people to kill themselves just so some corporation can come in and start pumping. Yes your right bitcoin is totally useless when it comes to war, because the oil companies would have to finance their own wars.

16859  Economy / Speculation / Re: How deep do you expect the price to fall? on: September 06, 2012, 08:52:49 PM
If I think about this a bit and unfortunately that is all there is regarding the Bitcoin economy, I think it is overpriced, I would expect to see an economy develop around 1:1 with the USD and when that was stable I would imagine the demand would grow organically.
Right now the exchange rate is 10% driven by commerce and 90% driven by daytraders.

This actually represents a signifigant improvement and it's improving all the time. The ratio needs to invert, though, before bitcoin can really be considered mature enough to be a store of value.

I think no matter how big the bitcoin economy is it will always represent only 10% of the price the other 90% will always represent speculation. If the bitcoin economy grows to a 1 Billion dollar thing, then price will rise high enoght to allow for speculation to take 90% of the value. The only way this will change is if 100% of the people involved with bitcoin are paid in bitcoin and NEED to spend 90% of each bitcoin pay check to live comfortably. And so what if 90% of the price is pure speculation, 90% of the gold's value is pure speculation, no one cares, its just how it works.
16860  Economy / Speculation / Re: Speculate About the years 2013-2016 on: September 06, 2012, 08:20:24 PM
The currency of many countries will start to default, US included.
Banks offer a "Global currency" deal that no one can refuse.
The global currency is introduced and soon after a global government. everyone's paper money / politicians  are the  same.
The Bank has successfully taken over the world.
The government start issuing new laws and basic human rights start to get squashed.
The people in some parts of the world want to separate from this new Global Government.
These people are quickly "taken care of"
Everyone on the planet now fears authority, and start to conform to the way they want us to live.
Life is easy so long as you obey.

A really big asteroid hits the planet and everyone dies in a matter of minutes.

Cool story eh?  Roll Eyes
